He's right in saying that Watchmen was left-leaning, since we know Alan Moore is an anarchist of some stripe. I won't attempt to codify everything Moore believes in, just that all of his energy screams left leaning. Anti-fascist, open to the idea of an anarchic society, openly critical of mainstream culture on multiple levels etc.

And yeah Moore disavows all adaptations since they either hard fuck it up or tweak shit and lose some of the message. Cosmonaut I've noticed likes to play devil's advocate. He won't come out and say "I like The Last Jedi", but he'll ask people to keep an open mind and let it settle in their heads before they rush to judgement, etc. Really this is his usual stuff.

You take a step back into the recent past at all and leftism wasn't this polished corporate bullshit obsessed with political correctness, it was more of an angry energy against "the man", with all the dirty stuff that entailed. But, fast forward to the 2010s and leftism is now a brand spouted by middle class children programmed during schooling. Alan Moore isn’t woke but he certainly is left leaning. I feel like he did a good job balancing the characters of watchmen so it isn’t terrible but if you look at interviews and stuff it’s clear he intended stuff like Rorschach trying to leak Ozy’s plan as a selfish and bad thing.

I can see Moore creating that ending because he wants people to debate if Rorschach did the "right thing" by insisting on chaotic and probably violent truth over a monstrously abusive and authoritarian lie that could lead to peace. That's a tough, complicated call to make, and reasonable people can disagree on it. I thought that was the point of the ending.

But ultimately if Rorschach is wrong, doesn't that mean 1984's Big Brother is correct to memoryhole the truth as long as they have the "right" motivations? (And who decides what is right?) How can Moore support that position?

What orgin story? The only character we’ve gotten a real good look is looking glass. The peteypedia implies Laurie took up the comedians mantel. We don’t know much about sister night besides that she was shot by a 7K member.

I think their are a few reasons for watchmens low ratings for one while watchmen is popular your average hbo viewer hasn’t probably read it. Hell most people probably know about watchmen from the movie. The show would be very hard to enjoy without reading the original comic. Also the marketing is terrible. I was originally not gonna watch the show out of principle and because it looked like woke trash. The actual show seems to be doing a more nuanced take then I expected but it could really go anywhere at this point.
