There's a rumor that Jean Smart is playing the Comedian's widow. Her character is listed as Agent Blake. She's also looking at pictures in the trailer with a look of sadness.

While I loathe the Comedian, I'm super curious to see her in this. Jean is really good at emotional wife/mom type characters because she's a pro at empathic characters (see: Legion, Fargo) so I think she'll be great at this. She might get another Emmy nomination. (I'm sorry but she, Dan Stevens, and Aubrey Plaza deserved Emmy nominations for Legion, ironically she lost to her Watchmen co-star Regina King for Supporting Actress a few years ago)

Seems everyone else is new aside from Scar as Ozy.

But the Comedian never married, at least not in the comic. It's kinda integral because it allows for the reveal of him being Laurie's father and the secret relationships between him and Sally.

Terrible idea for him to have a widow. How the hell was she not the one who he blubbered to, rather than fucking moloch? It also goes against just about everything we know aobut him as a character.

Apparently Agent Blake's sole purpose is to stop vigilantes .

I didn't catch this until now but in the January promo video she's at a checkpoint.

Well, since this is an HBO series, we do know one thing for sure. Dr. Manhattan will be shown walking around full frontal naked. A lot.

Doctor Manhattan fucked off to another universe and probably doesn't even remember Earth. It will also save them a ton of money on the special effects budget.

I really never got the... tension of watchmen. One of the characters is like a literal god. Solving the plot is basically a matter of getting his attention and getting him to snap his fingers.

I guess you manage that tension by making him "true neutral", but then still, why bother doing anything else instead of just trying to talk the living god into helping you?

They could have him get distracted by some weird outside context problem that the main characters can't even hope to understand, I suppose. "Sorry guys, I'm really straining myself holding off 3 interdimensional incursions by monsters so horrifying your brain would pop just thinking about them, can't help you rescue that cat" might work.

That's sort of the point of Dr. Manhattan's character. He's the only character with actual superpowers, but as he loses his humanity, he also loses his emotional connection. What happens then when the only person who can actually help has no interest in helping because he's just too powerful to be concerned with the trivial matters of mortals? This is also what causes him to travel to Mars when he realizes there is nothing for him on Earth. Not to mention, Ozymandias' use of tachyons prevented Dr. Manhattan from discovering who was behind everything. There's a moment where Dr. Manhattan admits that it is the first time in a long time that he truly did not know what would happen, because the tachyons distorted his sense of time.
