Toymaker Hasbro, Inc. announced on Tuesday said it would acquire Saban’s Power Rangers and other entertainment assets in a cash-and-stock deal valued at $522 million.

The transaction also includes other properties including “My Pet Monster,” “Popples,” “Julius Jr.,” “Luna Petunia” and “Treehouse Detectives.” Hasbro and Saban brands previously announced a $22 million master toy licensing agreement set to begin next year.

Hasbro will pay nearly $230 million in cash and issue $270 in Hasbro common stock for the assets. The sale is expected to during the second quarter of 2018.

The Power Rangers franchise, first started in 1993 by Haim Saban, is one of the longest-running live-action kids series. It has now spawned a number of movies including last year’s Lionsgate picture, which grossed $142 million globally.

“Power Rangers is an iconic brand built on a heritage of great storytelling and merchandising with tremendous upside potential when fully executed across Hasbro’s Brand Blueprint,” Brian Goldner, Hasbro chairman and CEO, said in a statement.

Goldner said Hasbro sees opportunities for toys, games, consumer products, digital gaming and entertainment. Saban is expected to serve in a consulting role to Hasbro, Goldner added.

“Twenty-five years after launching Power Rangers, I believe the future for this brand has never been greater,” Saban said. “Hasbro’s leadership in innovation, storytelling and brand stewardship make it the perfect company to further develop the global reach and appeal of the Power Rangers property.”

Hasbro stock is down nearly 2% to $86.35. The deal comes as toymakers are adjusting to the fallout of the bankruptcy of Toys R Us, which is having major impact on companies such as Hasbro, Mattel, and other companies in the supply chain.

This is what puzzles me about this, the price is just way too low for the franchise IMO, there's definitely potential for a Transformers-style film series, not to mention the toys and TV series you can make..
the latest japanese power rangers i watched was nonsensical and goofy. itll be hard to translate the red ranger riding into battle on a paladin while japanese women dance around him into americanese

Thread's been necroed but I know why.
Somehow this clip I found while trying to find something else explains everything
Yeah donbrothers! its was pretty wild.

The fanbase of power rangers never grew, the fanbase grew up. So this franchise will never work when your fanbase are socially inept libtard millennial with no disposable income.

only three giant robots released in 5 years.
There was the budget transforming megazord that was on par to a neo-saban/hasbro back in 2020 to hype up the dino crossover, and the 3 ZAP projects that was shoddy & flawed as hell. Basically a cheaper soul of chogokin.

The mismanagement of power rangers honestly you should cost someone their job. To understand how badly it went after, I must explain the four eras. the OG Saban era was when power rangers at its absolute peak in sales and cultural relevancy, this led to them being bought out by Disney who made a butt ton of money off the brand. Saban seeing the thing he used to own make more money than when he owned it, used his Jew gold to buy the franchise back. The neo Saban era is where everything started to fall apart, due to two factors. The first being inaccessibility of the currently running iteration of the show. It was on at a weird time on a cable channel, and series would run 2 years with a mid-season break as opposed to changing theme every year as was done prior. They tried to do a live action movie series, but people didn't like the first one and it didn't do well enough to be continued. The second Factor is the significant drop in the quality of merchandise. This was caused by bandai America not wanting to pay to use bandai Japan's super Sentai molds as it would be cheaper for them to produce their own. Power rangers megazords used to be fairly high quality and the exact same figure as was released in Japan sans some paint changes and the rounding off of sharp points. This combination proceeded to drive the brand into borderline irrelevancy, until Hasbro bought it. They proceeded to fuck up what should have been the easiest win for them in the entire world. When it came to Media they were only able to put out one special on Netflix, with multiple other projects promised and then canceled. On the merchandise side they were doing fairly well until they made some truly retarded decisions. Shoddy distribution, an overabundance of exclusives that were required to complete teams, and only three giant robots released in 5 years. These factors managed to completely evaporate all the good will of the fan base.
You must be talking about just the toys or something because the show decreased in popularity for the whole of Disney's ownership to the point where they outright cancelled it. Which is when Saban then brought it back.
