Why the heck do the insist on using their stupid elite redesigns? H2A was kinda peak in that regard, why go back to them again? Or Reach. I like Reach a lot.
But it's funny that the Blur intro used the old designs for the Halo 5 arbiter, while halo 5 itself used the new one with the ugly faces.
Anyway, I played Halo 4 again recently. I don't like the weapon sounds and the lack of a damage indicator on enemies. They have no bass to them. I hated fighting the Prometheans because every weapon felt like Airsoft guns on them, and their stupid revive mechanic is annoying.
I also don't like the shaders they used for metal. Makes everything look like plastic for some reason. I like the environments of the levels, but it was clear that the devs ran out of ideas at the end. The didact's ship and the tower interiors of Requiem look really busy to the eye and rushed. It was also strange that the Infinity was treated like people already know it. Its like 343 tried to make it this new constant running through the series. Only for it to be put in the background during 5 and lazily removed in Infinite. Shame. I liked the forward until dawn videos.
Halo 5 changed the art direction even more, so it's not even consistent with 4. I would not call the games ugly (except Infinite), but it's inconsistent. I own the art book for Halo 4 and it's like they threw all the design ideas from that out of the window for the next game.
The story sucked, the trailers lied about the premise, and the game forced you to play in garbage AI co-op mode. Making Cortana the villain was dog shit. Making it a faux conflict about AIs was garbage. The Cortana Simp boss you are forced to fight multiple times is boring. The guardians are stupid.
Then in infinite, they shit the bed and cuck out on their own story and they give you a fake Cortana. The story is somehow worse and more boring than 5s and most of it happens before you even start the game, including real Cortana dying and the infinity being destroyed. Wtf?
They completely reversed on their art design, discarding what they tried to build over the previous years. The open world is lame and ugly. They somehow thought spamming hexagon pillars everywhere looks good. You cannot replay missions. They use invisible walls to prevent you from leaving your current sky Island. The final boss is generic, and the arena spams you with sentinel guns so it's easy AF.
It is clear they have no idea how to create a conflict on the same level of the original trilogy with the Covernant gone. The AI's are lame, and the Banished feel forced.
You know what you do when you are told to continue a story that has wrapped up? At best you can do what 4 did and try to wrap up the hint given after the legendary ending of 3. But what you should do is prequels, or side stories like ODST. Not saying 343 would have made them good, but then they would not need to reinvent the big bad every damn game.
The best part though about all of this is the dev message at the end of Halo 4. Where they thank you for being with them at this first step on their journey. I did not remember that, so it gave me a good chuckle. Maybe if they rename themselves again they can make a good game.
God they suck.
