Grand Theft Auto Grieving Thread - Yep, I've been drinkin' again...
Good thing they moved away from the drab color aesthetic trend and doubled down on the bright colors/80s one, unlike Michael Mann's new version of Miami Vice.
That's how Jersey looks unfortunately. Not sure what they could have done to spice it up unless they made the whole state with the rural sections. Sopranos is pretty apt in how they portray it. Maybe in the next entry they could include upstate NY to spice it up with woodlands and whatnot.
just did the shitty fooligan acid trip mission in online and i can't help but wonder if my character was molested during the trip because consent accidents and all.
also i'd like to mention that these characters are shit and would be easily slaughtered by any of the other GTA characters, plot armor is the only thing that keeps these shits alive and i hope whoever wrote them breaks their fingers in a way that they may never write again.
Another funny moment from IV I want to share. When Little Jacob speaks, Niko is more of an indirect translator of his rasta speak for the player himself. Niko is so straight and dry, it almost comes off as humorous with Jacob's ramblings. Probably not intentional, but it's funny to me.
All this GTA talk inspired me to get back into San Andreas. Any must have mods I am missing here?
SkyGfx apparently restores the PS2 version lighting. That should be good since the PC lighting is too flat.
I love the color scheme since it oozes Miami. But the screenshots and artwork of modern hip hop culture really turns me off from the game. Hope it is actually good.

I've said this before. If you're apprehensive on modern culture, GTA VI would likely turn you off.
People recklessly driving off road vehicles on streets, black women twerking any and everywhere possible, obnoxious filming 24/7 with smartphones, that's reality, unfortunately. They're so self-absorbed, they probably think of that as just "black culture" without caring that it's disruptive behavior.
As much as the goysheep deserve to be fleeced, what are with these commentators like Legendary Drops calling GTA VI out and then saying "now don't get me wrong, I'm still going to buy it!".
Almost all of gaming media now is just trying to farm clicks. You have to go for the outrage clicks first, then after the game releases you go for the actual game clicks, and then follow up with praise or rejection afterwards.
Like...I don't know how anyone with a brain still follows gaming media youtubers and shit. It's been so fucking blatant since Cyberpunk and Starfield.
RDR2 had a $100 ultimate edition too. It included an extra horse, unique clothes and a few side missions that didn't come with the base game. This isn't something new from rockstar.
I think this ultimate edition is far more worth the price compared to RDR2's personally, for just $20 more you get quite a bit of stuff, I get that it's unfortunate for some people but seeing as how some other ultimate editions are and the fact we'll most likely be playing it for 15 years I think overall it's worth it

Yeah, I'm not sure how you would portray modern Miami otherwise. I guess the idea of having multiple characters is to check off different racial segments of the city/state they are parodying, like how Franklin represents black gang bangers, Trevor as a rural redneck, and Michael as the typical italian criminal outsider who moves to Cali to get away and lay low. Maybe they had that in mind with the multiple characters concept that was nixed.
One of my favorite franchises is now dead to me. Damn shame. It could be 60 bucks and I still wouldn't buy this dross. None of the people that made the R* people loved are still there...
I was under the impression that older titles made fun of the modern culture of their respective times, not glamorise it.
We've yet to see actual gameplay or anything of substance, but that's the vibe I'm getting.
I dont know whats so bad about ghetto, chulos, and swamp hicks as a setting. After the drag that was IV and the heartless romp that was V gta should bring fun back. There is no way in hell they go balls out crazy like saints row 2 but i welcome the change. They totally fucked up the Heat ripoff in the last one so we will see.

The fact we almost lost it to an earthquake is a fun wrinkle to it too, not like waiting for the inevitable GTA6 release and aftermath would when the time comes
I wonder how many hundreds of layers of complete bullshit they will eventually add to the PC edition when it comes out in like 3 years to stop people from modding it because they can't have anyone interfere with their sale of Shark Cards on the GTAO cash cow. I fully expect them to kill the performance of the game just to make it run some ring 0 kernel anti-cheat that automatically drone strikes your house if you lose connection to the R* servers while the game is in your machine or some shit.
Corporations always waged war against modding, or at the very least, they always put modding in the same boat as cheating since both involve messing with the engine. Except modding either tends to be strictly focused on single player experiences and/or alter the game in ways that do not offer the player any gameplay benefits...not that these corporations give a shit to make that distinguishment, ESPECIALLY if they believe it is affecting their bottom line, independently if thats actually true or not. Just look at Bethesda and their passive (mostly aggressive) relationship with modding. And Capcom with their shit programs to prevent cheaters (that mostly annoys consumers because hackers will just find workarounds).
Nvm the fact that Rockstar is a particular fucker when it comes to this, cancelling mods to their old games (that have no online btw), even a few that just offered just basic ass quality of life improvements and minor visual improvements. We all know it is to protect their precious "definitive" editions when those are still objectively shit to this day, ironically only made worth having if you mod it.
As much as the goysheep deserve to be fleeced, what are with these commentators like Legendary Drops calling GTA VI out and then saying "now don't get me wrong, I'm still going to buy it!". Have some fucking backbone to weather a meager inconvenience to your slop cravings, buying makes you a part of the problem. Hell, even pirating and pinging the games servers makes you a part of the problem. Just stop pretending the sunk cost fallacy doesn't apply to you because anticipation and criticism are compatible concepts.
Something you will notice that a lot of the so called "critics", still partake in the consumption (and therefore, funding) of the slop that they complain so much about.
I saw a friend of mine complain about the Rayman Legends remake and he ranted how unnecessary it is and how the game isnt that old and etc. I patiently waited and listened, then brought the essential "Alright, but tell me this, are you going to buy it?"
I'll summarize his answer with "I will but I am gonna complain all the way".

3 - was gloomy and dirty mostly all the way, it didnt portray NY/LC in a positive light, mostly as an island crawling with bad elements and apparently the waters are so dirty that you fucking die if you fall into it (hence why you cant swim). Hell, the governor thought it was a good idea to ban motorcycles, because they "Kill kids" (hence why there arent any in 3)
VC and SA- They did portray a more "love letter esque" stance but still didnt hold back on pointing out the absurdities of the time period and not shying away from the fact that SA and VC are too crawling with remorseless POS criminals.
4- Mostly like 3, except trying to be a bit more realistic about it. They do try to show the city as a far more depressing place, tho that mostly depends on who you are playing as.
5- Tries to return to a more "wacky" aspect but it still portrays Los Santos as an ultimately shit place to live, with each area of the map having some sort of chaotic criminal element, so you cant really get away.
I want to believe 6 will do the same but I doubt they will try to actively step on any toes this time. 5 was the last entry that had some sort of a "bite" to it and, even by then, it was already kind of sanitized so I can only imagine they will handle satire towards leftists topics with kiddie gloves while going "old school" on anything else, because of course they'll do that...

Reminds me of the Switch 2 drama. Fuckers make video after video about why you shouldn't buy it and how much it sucks but still buy it day one. Some even buy multiple! No one has backbone and they're too scared to lose relevancy by not covering whatever the current thing in their sphere is so of course they'll try and have their cake and eat it too (hope I'm using that right) by decrying something (GTA VI in this case) and then immediately buying it.

All that behavior is glamorized as "normal" because A) those people get away with it in society, and B) it grants them attention that others provide for them with little to no consequences. It's not just GTA itself, it's social media in general.
I cannot fault GTA for "glamorizing" this behavior. Rather, I fault society for allowing it to fester like this. GTA is just a reflection of American society.
