Given the circumstances of his "change of heart" it is blindingly obvious he is pulling this shit out of naked opportunism after finding himself utterly lacking in allies who are not mumsnet wine aunts, as well as fully jumping aboard the increasingly popular bandwagon he spent years acting as a shrieking inquisitor against.
If he pulled this shit out of nowhere when he was not being eaten alive by the woke jobs he once applauded, I might be less skeptical, but as it stands the circumstances make it clear he is pulling this contrite act with zero sincerity, and is still the same sanctimonious autist douchebag from page 1 of this thread.
obviously this is all just my personal opinion, and I won't criticise any who choose to give him the benefit of the doubt, I just don't think this whole "redemption" schtick will amount to anything more than him once again switching which team he chooses to be a babbling tard rager against

He could have taken the easy way out like most of his class would and kissed the ring, but he's told the troons to fuck off instead. Now maybe it's just because he's a pigheaded lolcow, but it is still braver than what most craven media cowards would have done.

What a mess, it was a great platform to ease people who probably don't pay a lot of attention into the insanity of the trans agenda. If only he could have talked calmly and reasonably.
He looked so nervous from the start, his leg was out of control and his twitch was really bad too. He couldn't stick to simple talking points, he was all over the place and most of what he was saying would only be understood by others in the TERF/trans debate niche.
Also he went way off the deep end with all his responses and came off like an extremist. Did he really have to compare himself to a German resisting the Nazis...

Yeah, I can't be too hard on people who get peak transed and start re-evaluating everything they thought they knew from the last few years. 'Enemy of my enemy' and all that, plus I sympathise with someone realising that they've been fed a line of bullshit, and now having to figure out where they stand now that they're at odds with their former allies and belief system. It's like leaving a cult that you didn't even really know that you were in, and if it doesn't result in self-reflection and apologies then you're likely an NPC bouncing around from one pre-programmed set of responses to another.
All the room to make fun of him for how he's bumbling about in his newfound beliefs, though.

I have a slightly different perspective. Admittedly I am not particularly familiar with Linehan, but IMO this "new" direction is just more of the same. I don't think it's particularly brave, it's becoming more and more likely that all this troon shit and wokeness is on the downturn with the public and the backlash that he is receiving isn't likely to be much more than what he was getting before, just from a different direction (that is, whatever backlash actually makes it through his various and according to his own words, huge blocklists).
I'm not aware of what his views on progressive culture were before Social Media became ubiquitous, but I would hazard a guess that he was early on the upward trend of the bell curve for that stuff as well. As a comedian and someone who provides cultural commentary, he is probably adept at knowing which way the wind is blowing and I would venture that this is just another trend that he is willing to exploit for social capital.
That being said, I agree that him just not being a massive dickhead right now is good enough for me, but I don't think we need to attribute any "honorable" motives to it.

I'd disagree. I'd say this is a continuance of his white-knighting women, just now it's defending them from troons rather than the mountains of gamers it was before. The feminists he listens to are the more gender-critical ones - he's of the era of Germaine Greer rather than Jezebel - and he quickly found out that you're not even allowed to question the troon narrative without being unpersonned, especially in the UK.
I think he stumbled into his current predicament by asking a couple of questions about how troon dogma hurts women, and finding out the hard way that a lot of his former allies really hate it when you challenge the inherent virtue of a bloke in a dress. He's not the sort to listen to criticism, they're not the sort to even pretend they're having a proper debate or discussion, he gets swiftly peak transed and starts to realise that hey, if they were lying about this, what else were they lying about?
His main drive is still Protect All Women, in his buffoonish, cantankerous fashion. He's just realised that trans women aren't women, and can in fact be Jake Alley, lying his shriveled heart out.

Perhaps, but the fact remains he is one of those media specimens who happily made their fortunes with edgelord humour and transgressive speech, only to immediately jump aboard the #woke bandwagon the moment it became trendy and started obsessively and aggressively attacking anybody who wound up on the media's shitlist for the same kinds of jokes and comments he spent his career making, which would be contemptible enough in its own right, only to then try and jump ship again after his attempts to demand fealty from the SJW mobs for his heroism during the gamergate wars blew up in his face and left him alone and friendless in the wilderness.
Again this is just personal preference here, but I truly detest people like this who so casually sell out their supposed principles and try to punish those who did the same things they did, only to then try and backpedal once it becomes convenient to support those principles again.
If he were some lifelong SJW who was always a massive tard for the SJW cause until it bit him in the ass and caused him to try and swap sides, I would be far more sympathetic or atleast far less antagonistic towards the idea, but since his schtick is part of a pattern of him selling out to whatever side/cause is most comfortable to him, I see no reason to look at him as anything but an opportunistic shitbag, even if he refuses to kowtow to the troon tards.
This aint even limited to linehan. I have written off effectively all the fair weather edgy joke making self declared free speech champions of the 90s and 00s who turned into massive censorious cunts in the 10s as worthless hypocritical douches, no matter how loudly they try to rejoin team free speech and free expression later down the line

His career was nuked from orbit because he misjudged how vital he was and how much weight his word carried in the SJW twitter mob scene, as well as miscalculating how much his familiar radfem tenants would gel with the current dogma, and even then he kept going with his crusader antics against the assorted anti-woke enemies of humanity for a solid year until these past few weeks.
He is opportunistic because he is now openly trying to cosy up with those he spent years declaring to be subhuman nazi scum solely because doing so is now his best chance at getting both positive exposure and allies for his internet slap fights. As I said before, had this "change of heart" not coincided with him being targeted by mass bombardment by his old woke friends I might be somewhat less sneery, but given the circumstances I dont see any reason to give him the benefit of the doubt.
And to be frank, given his stand against troon shit is just throwing twitter tantrums and threatening to sue every checkmark who throws shit at him, I dont think his assistance is either needed or wanted since he is physically incapable not being an embarrassing liability to whatever cause he latches on to

I am 100% in agreement with you that it's just more of his white-knighting women, although my personal opinion is that the target audience for all his performative bullshit is Graham Linehan's very own ego. When I said:
I did not mean to imply it was his primary motivation, although I (now) realize that this is how it reads. Although I do believe that he is likely aware that this shit is on the downturn and any backlash is going to be temporary and unlikely to be any worse than his service in the War against Women during the Great GG Campaign of 2014.
