I always thought of ginger ale as more of a mixer rather than something you are supposed to drink on its own.
A trend at bars in Europe decades ago was to serve a beer "with a twist," which is a pint of beer with a splash or two on top of Sprite or whatever lemon soda they had.

I recently tried this with ginger ale on top of a really strong, hoppy beer. I thought it was good! Perfect flavor.

I'd like to thank both @Preacher ✝ and OP @RollerGator for two reasons:

1) While I was unable to locate Bacardi Oakheart, I got myself a bundaberg and my bottle of rum and this was indeed a very nice mix that I never considered before

2) OP's thread, Preacher's suggestion and me consequently craving Ginger Beer moreso than usual, prompted me to start a ginger bug from scratch (which has been developing for the past week), make an extra strong base brew with both fresh and dried ginger and I have now reached the stage where I can "bottle" the first batch for final fermentation/carbonation.

It's very easy and if you enjoy Ginger Beer, you should definitely give it a try. Cheers!

You are very welcome, happy to have helped.

That Diplomatico is pretty good dark rum, back when I still drank one of the only rums I found that beat it was Pampero Anniversario.

If you can find it I recommend giving it a shot.

I also reckon that ginger beer would go well with Irish Whisky, of which my favorite was Powers Gold Label.
