General Wrestling Discussion

In retrospect, someone really should have done an angle where "Vader" was secretly someone's father... (Makes a hell of a lot more sense than Angle being Jason Jordan's father)

The promos write themselves.

Even when Jim is doing a tribute to a beloved wrestler he's insufferable.
Agreed. Cornette is utter shit... a dinosaur trapped several decades in the past... And it's laughable that he considers Russo to be his arch enemy, as they're both equally terrible.

Well now we know who's next, and it just happened:

Matt Cappotelli passes away

WWE is saddened to learn that Matt Cappotelli, a promising Superstar who was a co-winner of WWE Tough Enough III, passed away Friday at age 38.

His death was first announced by his wife, Lindsay Cappotelli, on her Facebook page.

"Today my love-my strong, sweet, beautiful love-took his last breath at 3:30 a.m. and went Home to be with Jesus exactly one year after his brain surgery," she wrote in her post.

Matt Cappotelli, who previously proved his athletic prowess as a member of the Western Michigan University football team, quickly made a name for himself in sports-entertainment as a co-winner of WWE Tough Enough III.

He shared the victory in 2003 with John Hennigan, who later came to be known as John Morrison. After coming out on top of the WWE reality competition, the duo quickly started their training in Ohio Valley Wrestling to become future Superstars.

Cappotelli’s OVW training was cut short in 2006 due to an initial brain cancer diagnosis that was treated one year later. Ten years after surviving the first battle, his cancer resurfaced in 2017 and worsened later in the year.

In 2017, Cappotelli spoke with WWE.com about his second bout with cancer. Despite the troubling outlook, he continued to publicly fight his illness in hopes his story might help others find the strength to keep fighting their battles, too.

“Life is the most precious gift we’re given,” Capotelli said in 2017. “If I can inspire others to not give up on the life they’ve been blessed to have, that’s what I’m trying to spread – hope.”

WWE extends its condolences to Matt Cappotelli’s family, friends and fans.

WWE legend Bret Hart accuses late brother's widow of erasing wrestling legacy

WWE legend Bret Hart appeared on a podcast last week where he accused the widow of his late brother of trying to erase his brother’s wrestling legacy rather than keep it alive.

Hart’s brother, Owen, died during a WWE pay-per-view match in 1999 after falling to his death while he was being lowered into the ring from the rafters of the Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Mo. Owen Hart fell 78 feet to his death. Martha Hart, Owen’s wife, reportedly was awarded $18 million in a settlement with the company over her husband’s death.

Bret Hart accused the widow of completely separating herself from the company, while the WWE has kept his brother out of their Hall of Fame and off its merchandising as well.

“I think Martha, Owen's widow, she's a very obtuse, square-headed person. I think she's done more to erase my brother Owen's memory than she ever did to remember him,” Hart said on CBS Sports’ “In This Corner” podcast. I think it really bothers me that the fans that loved Owen so much didn't get a chance to remember him. You do these kind of things for people are here, left to remember them.

“I mean Owen, it would never matter to him if he was in the Hall of Fame but I think that you know it would mean a lot to different family members in my family. I know Mark Henry as an example gave a strong speech or talk this year about getting Owen into the Hall of Fame and I totally agree,” Hart said.

Hart also questioned what the WWE Hall of Fame really means, noting that The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith and Demolition weren’t inducted, while Dynamite Kid is.

“You look at some of the people in the Hall of Fame and some of these celebrities in there and Owen to me personally not being in the Hall Of Fame, there's a lot of people who belong in the Hall of Fame who are not in it,” Hart said.

“If it turns out that the WWE is going to keep becoming Hall of Fame that caters to suck-ups and people that are in the company that they owe a favor to who never contributed to the business as wrestlers I question the whole Hall of Fame itself and I wonder if there will ever be a real Hall Of Fame that caters to just the wrestlers for their contributions.”

Hart was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006.

Not going to lie, I'm so used to wrestlers dying that when I opened the thread I saw the photo of Bret and started panicking for a second.

Aren't there already several non-WWE HoFs for wrasslin?

The Wrestling Observer has one, IIRC. I think the fans vote for the inductees.
