General Wrestling Discussion

Recently getting into watching New Japan Pro and i'm liking it so far, Pretty entertaining and i love some of the wrestling there. I was thinking about checking out TNA and seeing if it changed either for the better or worse. Is WWE still crappy? How is NXT?

I don’t want to brag, but I’ve already got my flight ticket and hotel reserved for the G1 finals. I’m mad at myself for not going to the Tokyo Dome this year.

So who's reading to watch Asuka win against Charlotte at Wrestlemania only to drop the title to Carmella?
Once the belt is on Asuka, there are two things that seem pretty certain. It isn't coming off her for a long, long time and eventually her streak will come to an end. I don't think either of those things are a net positive for the WWE. The streak makes her more interesting and other women need the title more to help get them over. Maybe I am alone in all this, but I don't think Asuka should win a title yet.

I’m about to listen to the new episodeWrestling Observer Radio, what is the over/under on how many times Meltzer will say AsIka?

She'll win it only to lose it the same night. It's how the WWE books their "stars'. Also, if she doesn't win the belt, then the streak ends. Doesn't matter how she loses the match.

If Carmella wins the title against Asuka, it will actually make her look credible as well as a champion. Charlotte loses her title rematch since Asuka doesn't have the belt so Asuka get's the rematch first. This sets up a longer storyline between the two fighting for a rematch.

I will be massively, massively displeased if Carmella cashes in successfully on Asuka, although it does seem a near-inevitability given how WWE does things.

Hopefully they just tease it and then Asuka destroys Carmella. Maybe literally dismembering her, removing the limbs from Carmella's torso :optimistic:

So WWE is going to have a female Battle Royale at Wrestlemania and they've decided to dedicate it to Fabulous Moolah. That's like having festival celebrating Jewish ancestry and dedicating it to David Icke.

Didn't you know she's the greatest female wrestler of all time?...Despite being boring as fuck with no charisma on screen.

They're also teasing a three way match for the women's title.

At least tonight's Shane beat down was okay, I think he learned to sell choking from Kane.

I think her pimping out and abusing young underaged women is the bigger issue. Fabulous Moolah is an absolute scumfuck and it boggles the mind to think that the company tries to justify not placing Chyna into the hall of fame for her being in porn when Moolah was a unapologetic sexual abuser and a literal pimp.

Never heard that about her, though I only started watching wrestling when she was "retiring" in the 80's and found that wrestlers like Queen Kong to just be better. Got a link to that information?

And a blackmailing scam artist who would have affairs with married men just to extort money from them. WWE will never let the truth get in the way of their historical narrative. It’s not like the WWE hall of fame matters anyway. Koko B Ware. Hillbilly Jim. I’m sure Paul Roma will have his day soon.

Dave Meltzer has talked about it countless times. He went into it again on the March 13th episode of Observer Radio. Time stamp is about 11 minutes in.

I wonder why the WWE doesn't care about these allegations. They've gotten rid of wrestlers for less. If it was only a few woman I can see them ignoring it, but there are a lot of women with similar stories.

Only thing I could think of is that she sold her girls to Vince and the people that worked for him.

I can only think of two reasons, one of which I'm not proud to admit. Number one is her lineage. As it stands, she holds the longest reign of any championship in any professional sport. Of course, we already know that her 26 year title reign is a fucking nepotism induced sham, but the general public are fascinated by the mystique of a championship reign lasting that long.

Number two is the fact that she's a woman. In regards to sexual crimes, women tend to get a slap on the wrist, both from the court and from society at large. I know I sound like some obnoxious fedoralord, but it's true. I can't think of another reason for the double standards we see in the company. Hulk Hogan gets blacklisted for some innocuous statements he said in private a decade ago and Moolah, who's actions not only harmed many innocent people but actively stunted the growth of women's wrestling, gets a pass.

She was used as a spy for other territories for Vince Sr. He told Vince to always take care of her so he did.

Ah. Makes more sense then my conspiracy theories.

Part of what you said you is all rolled into it. Women’s wrestling didn’t evolve in North America because of Moolah. She hurt generations of women’s wrestlers in North America while it evolved and thrived in Japan.

WWE really wants to whitewash the carny history of wrestling and pretend it never happened just like women’s wrestling was created last year by Steph, Vince invented professional wrestling in 1983.
