So I still go to the Kotaku main page - generally, if it looks like an interesting article I can just google search the deets (Assassins Creed Polar Bear) and get hits to other sites I might not have heard of before. It's also a good way to see what they might be shooting themselves in the foot with. Surprisingly, they haven't allowed Patricia Hernandez (or any author I can see) to write one of their clickbait-SJW-misleading-headline-screenshots-from-twitter posts in nearly two weeks. So, cool, that's progress I guess.

But, they've added a new subsite called Numbers to try and capitalize on the Buzzfeed listicle / link to video with no summary trend.

This doesn't have any real relation to #gamergate, it just made me laugh because that's what you want on a news site: Buzzfeed Listicles.

Suzy is also into taxidermy. Like, taxidermy is her hobby. She seems like a cool person and all the Grump episodes with her and Arin together seem to show a couple with a healthy and balanced relationship.

Back on topic, that Numbers thing is hilarious. They did not even try.

"I’m not against bias or opinion, per se, but far too many gamers who felt under-represented by the gaming press latched on to the piece as an example of “real journalism.” Just because you agree with something, or just because a piece gives more of “your side” of the argument, doesn’t make it unbiased or objective. It certainly doesn’t make it “journalism.”"

One of the most sensible things that have been said about this whole mess from the start IMO.

What pisses me off about social justice warriors is they are ruining and discrediting feminism. I am supportive of the concept of "Tropes Vs. Woman," and I do see potential in her videos. It is a shame she is taking such an unethical approach.

And faking death threats? Where are you going to draw the line?

I am a female, and I have never been harassed for being a female in the gaming community. Females, ask yourselves, have you been personally harassed for being a female in gaming?

I do think the gender debate is a valid topic for discourse, but in order to do so there needs to be respect and civility. Argue the ideas and stop making personal attacks. This lack of respect, anger from all sides was the oil. The gaming journalists wanting to appear current, relevant, and important; The Social Justice warriors zealotry against the "biggoted, man-babies"; The gamers who are feeling alienated and disrespected. Each side has their points to be made.

Eh, someone would have to double check that info. It'd just make things even more toxic if it turned out this guy was pulling a ruse.

I got curious and googled the officer's name and he's pretty much in any article where the media talks to the SF police which would make sense since that's his job. Here's a video of him talking to the news regarding a different case.

It sounds like the same guy. It's not confirmation but it shows it isn't blatantly fake and the guy didn't just google for a name and position he could throw out there.

Milo is making the same claim that there are no records of Anita reporting death threats to the police department. He's a legit journalist so he'd have something to lose if he just randomly pulled this same info from his ass. People are starting to pry into Zoe's claims too (about reporting death threats and the charity issue Trombonista pointed out. She's getting defensive. If it turns out both these women lied about these things then they would have done more damage to feminist causes than any misogynist ever could. I doubt any of the news outlets that jumped on Anita fleeing her home as a story would cover this though if it's true. They would have to admit that they didn't even make a phone call to verify it. It'd look bad for them.

The fact that people like Anita and Zoe use dishonest tactics makes me wonder just how serious the issue of women in gaming really is. The response Suzy gets on Game Grumps makes me think there's something to it, and I know there was someone who made games in college who posted in this thread about her experiences, but when the most prominent voices in this discussion fabricate evidence and mislead their viewers, it really makes it seem like there is no issue at all and they're just trying to make something out of nothing.

It seems like Zoe will just dismiss any legitimate criticism against her by claiming whoever said it is sexist. It can't be that she's in the wrong, you're just a mean he-man woman hater.

Not to spam posts, but yes, this. The more cynical part of me is even tempted to think they stir up controversy because they know their games would go largely unnoticed without it.

Women in gaming isn't any different than women in the regular world. It's probably better, if you really think about it.

You hit the nail on the head.

Women in gaming isn't any different than women in the regular world. It's probably better, if you really think about it.

It depends. With online gaming, it can absolutely be better. Unless you use voice chat the other players on your team will only judge you based on your play, not on your gender (which they wouldn't know). You'll probably still be called 'bitch' or 'fag' but that's just the nature of the beast.

But when I game with people who know my real gender, I definitely feel pressured to do better because I'm a girl. It may just be an internalized feeling, and girls who grew up in the 2000s may feel differently, I'm just saying that it's been my experience. Even then I don't see it as a huge deal. It's not something that would stop me from playing games. Still, I can see how it would prevent a lot of young girls from getting into gaming in the first place.

Basically, I think that the issue of women in gaming deserves to be talked about. Like adults. Adults who use facts.

PS - Just an added thought... do iPhone games like Bejeweled, which is played by a lot of women, really count as games? I've heard a lot of discussion on this and I've yet to come up with an answer. I think the distinction between 'casual' and 'hardcore' (or whatever you want to call it) definitely exists. There is a big difference between the person who only plays games on their phone while riding the subway and the person who sinks 600+ hours into Skyrim. I'm one of the latter (but also the former). I guess what I'm trying to say is I'd really like to see numbers on women in gaming based on the hours that they play, because I'm fairly sure that people who fall into the 'hardcore' category have mostly penises.

PPS - Also seeing some numbers on women who follow Let's Plays, MLG and gaming podcasts would be interesting.

I think the reason most people don't like Suzy is because all her humor seems very forced. Either that or she doesn't really seem to contribute to the conversations that go on in the show.

Yeah, she's kinda annoying. I don't have anything personal against her, I just think her makeup is silly and she's not entertaining.

Holy shit, this is the same guy who makes stupid videos about Red Pill shit. I remember one of his videos being passed around /r/cringe and /r/thebluepill a while back. Damn....

Back on topic, someone on /r/KotakuInAction last night was mentioning they put in a request to see the police records concerning Anita's phone call(s). Not sure if this was the red pill guy or not.
