It's funny how they break the lore and aesthetics in the most uninteresting ways. They'll go out to make the absurd black skinned Targaryen with silver dreads but didn't want to make the Ghiscari red-headed, or give the Tyroshi elaborately dyed hair, or portray the Qartheen as one step above albino.

They'll project contemporary conceptions of race onto a fantasy world despite it being a fantasy world that doesn't share our conceptions of identity.

Spoiler Alert: Preston Jacobs doesn't see what the big deal about casting a black guy is, especially because people don't complain about perfect teeth, people being tall, perfect hairlines, a mix match of historical weaponry, and other "unrealistic historical stuff" in the series.

I always find it surprising when people can't believe he is a fed from the Obama years.

Ackshually, perfect teeth aren't all that unusual in centuries-old skeletons, because lack of advanced dental care was balanced by how few people regularly consumed sugar. They've brought up preserved skeletons from ancient shipwrecks with absolutely beautiful sets of choppers.

These assholes will always pick and choose what's important or accurate based on their cargo cult identity politics.

Heigth is stupid as well as average heigth will be relative.
Kit Harington looks to be of normal heigth in his "tall" 1.73m

they literally casted the antithesis of a Targaryen, defending this is mind numbingly stupid. They can’t realistically nail perfect teeth and height in a show, but they also don’t cast ugly trolls as Targaryens because they make an effort to he faithful.

This video popped up in my youtube start page and I couldn't bear to watch it because I knew exactly what midwit take Preston would have about a black guy being cast to portray someone from a canonically white race obsessed with racial purity.

Remember a Velaryon bastard was so, so hot that Cersei completely lost her head over him, definitely one of the funniest moments of the fifth book.

Has he seen the casting for this? Everyone is uglier than the Game of Thrones cast. It is like they went out of the way to make everything look like shit. Especially the costumes.

I'm assuming they're Salladhor Saan'ing him, because the Velaryons are known for their piracy, they're going to make him into a pirate and therefore make him an exotic Black™ pirate bastard.

Similarly, Salladhor Saan is a blond/silver haired Tyroshi (and probably has some Velaryian in him) pirate in the books who they blackwashed into some Moorish Barbary pirate archetype in the show.

I think the most hilariously absurd thing is the silver dreads, usually you either look Valyrian or you don't. Sort've like in reality where mixed race children carry the dominant genetics more heavily.

There's a lot of people who are seething/coping about the casting of Black™ Valyrians, obviously the correct thing to do is laugh at the silly tv show and how it's going to be a complete mess.

I'm assuming this hit a nerve with Preston, who instead of just laughing it off as another reason why the show will be bad, decides to impotently defend the baffling decision.

The show would often treat Essos as our world's Asia, which isn't really true in the books, especially the free cities. They're definitely a diverse and eclectic bunch, but the further east you go in Essos the less European looking they become, just like in our world.
 
GoT had a lot of nobodies and a handful of accomplished actors, like Sean Bean, Charles Dance, Nicolai Coster Waldau, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage and so on, but even when they changed some major aspect of how a character is supposed to look and who got cast in that role, it was still a good choice...
This new project, it looks like a bunch of bland nobodies, how is anyone supposed to get excited for this shit?

GoT has become a toxic brand and now the producers go for preachy political bullshit and everything is visibly significantly cheaper than in GoT, please tell me this is received all around the net with a big hearty "meh".
