This will be long

I believe something finally broke in me. So this is really personal for me and my own relationship with Brazil National team.

My first memory that I have in life is the 1998 elimination in France. But then 4 years later I had 8 years and have memories of winning the 2002 WC. I don't have much vivid memories about the game itself but the people around me and everything else, it was a magical day that I wish I could see it again, it was the happiest day I ever saw for everyone, not just one person but everyone. Those moments that you believe that true happiness existed.

Then in 2004, Copa America final, Brazil vs Argentina and we are losing but I had this idea that Brazil was unbeatable and we were the best. I have vivid memories of my parents and uncles leaving the room and only me and my brother still watching the game until Adriano scored. That goal to this day is the most important that I ever saw for Brazil, it is my favorite of all time.

This is important because I truly believe that moments like this shape children into believers, they become heroes for children and connections are created, those shiny moments that will make children into believers of whatever team or national team.

And then in 2005, Brazil wins the Confederation Cup. I truly believed that we were gods amongst men, but then 2006 happened.

To this day the 2006 team is one of the best teams in paper of all WC ever had. We actually were better than 2002 and I had the justified hype of an entire nation and titles to justify it. And then we lost. That broke something in me really bad.

I stopped watching Brazil team in any competition. My grief and disappointment was such that I actively escaped brazil matches (One of my surreal experiences was riding a bike during a brazil match in 15:00, the town was empty and it felt like a ghost city where I was riding my bike in the middle of the road)

And then 2010 ended and 4 years later, me as an adult had a WC in my own country and I still didn't watched it. Until a friend called me over to drink some beers and watch a game. A semifinal match. 8 years later from my greatest disappointment in sports, I was thrown in the greatest disappointment of the entire history. For me who was already dettached, I remember laughing at the third goal and just checking it out and just making jokes and drinking, so when I entered the bus to go back home and saw the people faces, that sadness, that brief view of the lowest point in sports history to a nation.

And during this time, there was a brazilian player that really gave hope to the nation, Neymar Jr. Personally I never cared about individual players but even me knew that he was different, and now looking back he alone held Brazil hopes alone for 16 YEARS. But lets go back in the timeline. 2016 is the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, another event that gave the nation a moment of happiness. At this point there is just only thing that Brazil never had: the Gold medal in football in Olympics games. And against Germany in Rio they win with Neymar scoring the final penalty, washing a bit of the shame that was the 2014 semifinal.

So for me something changed. I thought that since I watched the 7-1, nothing could be worse and I started watching Brazil again, friendlies, qualifiers, WC and things in my life allowed me to basically watch most of the matches in 2018, 2022 and 2026 WC. So I was basically catching up with the 8 years I lost and it was great. In 2018 we played better and got eliminated by Belgium, in 2022, we were going to advance with a Neymar goal and a solid team that destroyed everyone in qualifiers.

But even then there are things still bothers me: the Argentina and Brazil COVID match. We were strong and Argentina would win the WC, they were ready to play but argentinians falsified documents saying that they took the vaccine but they didn't, so federal police came before the game and the game was canceled. The match was never rescheduled and this is one of my few regrets, not being able to see our better team of the last years against the eventual WC champions. I still regret this.

And after 2022 elimination, everything went to shit. NEYMAR got hurt in a match and his last 2 years were plagued with even more injuries and surgeries. And it was just the worst era of brazilian football in all time, breaking all negative records, changing coaches, corruption scandals, a poor football, and things that even dread to remember.

So this 2026 entire world cup is different now, I am still watching most of the games and having fun. But every Brazil match is like a black hole of joy, I don't enjoy watching the game nor the players like in 2022, I knew we werent going far, but the way we played made me feel so depressed after some hours of watching people comment the game, and with Neymar finally retiring I understood: for the younger Brazilians, who do they have to be a fan of? To inspire them? To make them believe they could achieve something better? There are not national heroes left and the fact that Brazilian media constantly sells the idea of greatness and players of 2002 STILL making adverts and having their pockets filled with money. The constant adverts that wants to prey on people's hope that pisses me off so much that I mute the TV.

And now 24h later after the elimination, I finally realized that after 2006, 20 years later something broke again. I wont bother with this sorry ass team the same way I did from 2018 to 2026, I wont bother to watch all qualifiers and friendlies. The entire team must be rebuilt, with new players and we must accept the fact that Brazil is gone, the 90s-00s era that we saw is long gone.

The WC title is too big for us, our next objective should be the Copa America, we must make players able to compete in our own continental level before trying for the WC.

Ancelotti should have a better team and with more time to work for 2030, 2026 was a patchwork of a team filled with injuries and weak minded players. The fact that we got eliminated doesn't bother me but the way they played the game pisses me off so much that I took the time to actually write this entire text that no one will read.

Brazil was a zombie team for years and the only light that blinded us so far (Neymar) finally ended. And from 2023 to this day I had a view of our present and sad future.

Game sucked tbh, one of the most boring matches so far.
What's funny is they are very skilled players. I enjoy watching how they manage the first touch on the ball or passing/possession under pressure, but they use all that skill and never take chances or make anything happen.

Then entire portugal and spain run so down in this WC has been lackluster, Portugal is actually more of a disappointment than Brazil because they played like shit in EVERY MATCH with the exception of Uzbekistan. That Croacia game was an anomaly and they still outplayed Portugal most of the time.

So glad I didn't watch this game. I occasionally glanced at the live coverage on the BBC website and a lot of the comments just said it was "dull".

But that's beautiful news that Ronaldo is now done with his last (surely) World Cup. Now we just need Messi to get one more goal this tournament.
Sometimes I should listen to my old man more on this sport. Messaged him about the England win and thoughts on this Portugal-Spain one, told me to skip it or put it on if I needed a cure of insomnia with how they matched up.

Fuckers got extra time as they are guaranteed to lose and they pass backwards.

The sole reason FIFA even gave the tournament to the Americans is because COMNEBOL and CONCACAF were being rumored to merge and create a bloc powerful enough to create, at best, a parallel WC, and at worst, attempt to usurp FIFA outright.
COMNEBOL, more like, Commieball.

Also, dogshit game. A 10 year younger Ronaldo would have effortlessly carried this one. Its fucking insane how long his career has been, he was already a big name 20 years ago, I remember watching the news as a kid and hearing about the war in Iraq, the economic recession and Ronaldo's goals, and the motherfucker is still around playing in WCs. I almost feel sad for him for not getting to cap off his career with a WC but he was always a faggot. I wouldn't even mind the ego, but it was somehow faggoty instead of entertaning. I wonder if he will go autistic mega-fitness obsessed and somehow get in on the national team next time, atleast as a sub. I really want to see the lich play football for decades more, to see how long he could keep going, cause I have to accept, even despite falling far short of his top, he is still a decent player, qualifying enough to play in some national leagues. A 50 year old pro footballer being decent enough to score a goal here and there would be pretty amazing.

Isn't Portugal going to be one of the hosts for the next World Cup? I know he said he was going to retire after this one earlier, but I really have to wonder if Ronaldo will eventually insist on playing one more time - even though he probably should've retired after 2022 and will be geriatric by 2030 - just so he can show up at the game(s) in Portuguese stadiums.

It's the difference between someone who says and insists they're the best player ever, versus someone who just is.
Personally I would be happy with this World Cup being a repeat of the last with Messi humiliating the "French" tranny fucker. Also happy with Spain or England winning. If the US wins just once in my lifetime I'll be happy but I'm just gonna keep dreaming on that one.

God that 2014 team was so dogshit, and even then they got to semis, what a terrible feeling.
I think that was part of the problem tbh. Brazil was up against fairly easy teams for the better part of that World Cup and even then their performance wasn't great. By the time you get to the semis, there's no more bullshit teams to weed out, you're facing a serious opponent.

Oh man, I want to say there's no way they can justify a 45 year old CR7 weighing the team down like a boat anchor in 2030... I guess it can't be ruled out? The amount of crying he will do if he's one goal behind Messi for most World Cup goals will be truly epic. I guess we'll see how much sway he has with the selectors.
