I’ve spoken with some folks familiar with the original FreedomOS. They believe the Freedom Phone team has no relationship with Erik Finman.

The original FreedomOS EOL’ed in 2018-2019 ( https://archive.is/mzKS1 )

So there’s a chance that Finman just straight up took the name and the ROM. The latter can’t be confirmed until someone can get their hands on the ROM.

PL, but lmao i own a umidigi a5 pro (basically the a9 pro with lower hardware specs) because it was the cheapest android phone (70 bucks at the time) that I could buy. It's a solid phone on its own right but anything with the word "freedom" in it should not be using chinese products in it.
 
I remember Torba tried something really similar a while back with gab branded Chinese Android TV boxes. This shits so blatant if you know anything about computers, but boomers know fuck all and are fairly gullible. Making an actually phone aimed at privacy is a good idea even, but its way easier to make a small Android fork and scam a bunch of boomers who don't know shit

Phones, by design, will always track you; if you want to use it for it's intended purpose then you're gonna need a SIM card, defeating the purpose of having so-called Freedom™.
I don't understand how anyone with confidence could peddle this chinkshit as being the solution against big tech. If you're really that paranoid then don't get a phone, period.

But if you’re actually trying to do a product launch there’s a better way to handle it.

Of course it’s a dumb question, and it’s loaded.

But you thank them, explain to them that you would hope people don’t engage in illegal activity with your product, and that your goal is privacy. It’s so easy to respond to that kind of question and make the asker look stupid.
