It seems unlikely to be real, but it's an intersting insight into the publics perception of Blizzard and fears about where they're going. The Blizzard of old earned a lot of good will but it's long since cashed it in, the company that made Diablo 1-2 and actual Warcraft games is long dead.

According to Blizzard, they said that it was not specifically because of China, but it's pretty hard to buy that reasoning. Not to mention that Ubisoft tried to make similar censorship changes in Rainbow6 Siege, and they flat out admitted that it was to pander to China, causing a massive community outrage that brought Ubisoft to their senses, and then chose not to make those changes. I don't think Blizzard, as how they are now, are the type to go back on these kinds of changes though.

There was some hoopla around one of Blizzard's titles, and I think this is the best place to address it.
Around 2 days ago, Hearthstone got an update. It's all fine and good, but what got many people's panties in a twist were the card art updates. 8 cards had their art updated, with 2 of them even having their name changed.

This is not the first time Blizzard changes in-game art. Approximately 4 months ago Jaina Proudmoore's ample bosom got the cleavage cover-up treatment.

A small follow-up on the Hearthstone situation - one of the reporters at Kotaku reached out to Blizzard to ask them about the card art changes. This is what they had to say:
