Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

What are you guys working towards to keep you busy?
Well, before I stopped, I was maxing all my crafting and gathering so that I could deck-out my house without shelling out bajillions of gold, as well as make out of everything in the crafting list.

Since I don't have Shadowbringers, my crafting/gathering is effectively maxed out. And my house and apartment are satisfactory. What's keeping me from going back and continuing is admittedly rather spergy: Ever since the changes to enmity, my summoner no longer feels like a summoner, and that was the only class I liked.

Let me explain: When it comes to summoners, I view them as a mini-army unto themselves. I like that feeling of having minions at my disposal, taking hits and doing damage for me while I sit in back, acting as their healer/buffer. Literally a mini-party that I control. Bringing in the chocobo added to that, and it felt perfect.

Coincidentally, I'm probably the only person that regularly ran the Squadron dungeons for fun.

Understandably, summoners of that sort are an absolute pain to balance in MMOs. And unfortunately for literally just me, that means that both of the games I played with my preferred summoner type changed them to be more straight casters, which is boring and bland to me. Now it just feels like I'm playing a black mage with extra steps.

"Just play a healer, you tard!" I hear you say. Which is perfectly fair, but I'm that dumbass that plays MMOs knowing they prefer to play solo. I also used to try and run healers first in every MMO I played. And every single time I got fed up with being roadblocked by being unable to safely travel the world on my own, or having to deal with people sprinting off like a rabbit on cocaine.

That second one is why I absolutely hate running dungeons (boss trials are fine) with people in FF14, and why I haven't quite beaten Stormblood: I remember my next story mission being the Burn (I think) and I'm fucking dreading it. Not because it's hard, but because people wanna speedrun it. I like to take things slow and look around and explore, damn it. That's why I prefer to be by myself and be on my own time instead of someone else's, even in real life.

At least FF14 didn't go the same route as the other game I used to play: They changed it so that the creature you summon is entirely dependent upon the moves you use and how many times you use it.
...In a turn-based game.
Where you can do maybe three moves IF you have the gear focused on giving you more action points and are using weak moves that don't have a limit to how many times you can use them per turn/enemy.
On top of certain moves/summons having a limit shared by the entire party.

So you're essentially forced to be a pure caster for the first few turns (y'know, when everything else is getting buffed so they can insta-kill whatever you call out). All because they wanted to, quote, "force summoners into the thick of battle". Different playstyles and builds be damned.

TL;DR: Crafting/gathering achievements were my goal, but they changed enmity and now I'm too sad to play because autism. Now Squeenix gets free sheckles because I'm too attached to my house and keep telling myself I'll get over the changes someday.

Off-Topic: I know there have to be some singleplayer games like what I'm looking for out there. I think I saw one on Ross's Game Dungeon called Dungeon Siege that looked fun as hell. What is that genre called specifically? Maybe I can find more like it. Or, hell, maybe I should just play Dungeon Siege.

I just hit rank 25 and Dal popped right after with 25 people and we cleared it. First time and only died twice, quite pleased with that result! A Kiwi posted about never spotting Castrum, I know it's a pain but it's pretty fun content if you're looking for something to do.

So finish up Stormblood and buy Shadowbringers already. Every dungeon can be played solo with an NPC party now. It's called Trusts and it works somewhat similarly to Command missions except that you don't control the NPCs in the other roles – they automatically do what they're supposed to do. Pretty good way to do a first time run at your own pace and learn specific dungeon boss mechanics since the NPCs always adjust around them.

Square Enix changed the Sage job icon due to (Japanese?) complaints citing a fake phobia.

The original design in question:

Meanwhile, the Leatherworker class icon remains undisputed.

Trypophobia. It's not 'fake' so much as 'not extensively documented.' In medical terms, it'd be a kind of 'specific phobia' which could still be classified as an anxiety disorder.

And yeah, it's almost entirely a Japanese concern. Apparently it's much more common in Japan than it is in the west (that or it's just Japanese neuroticism ramping it up to 11).

Honestly I have trypophobia, the little holes thing bothers be but the icon didn't. I think it's funny people were up in arms about it in the first place. And as far as trypophobia goes

I mean, this is Japan, a country where vast swathes of the adult population can't go out in public or even order their own food due to crippling anxiety. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some legitimate head cases there who can't handle the old sage icon.

Plus the new icon is better than the old one so as far as changes go, this is a pretty good one.

Lunarcon currently has 3k viewers on twitch which, for a virtual convention, least in my opinion, is pretty impressive.
Isn't that streamer who lost their shit, crying on stream while pretending to have a "public forum" because they weren't on the FFXIV x Twitch collab? I also remember them having a bot that said something along the lines of, "If you don't agree with something, stay quiet or leave." The pronouns bullshit is the icing on the cake.

Apparently yes, but I can't find the video on her past broadcasts which is odd.

There is truly no creature more dissolute than the Euro who plays on NA RP servers.

Realtalk - Do Euros just not have a strong RP culture in their games? I see this phenomenon of RP Euros playing on NA in a lot of other games.

so its asspat con, great and to be expected.
Think of it more as a last hurrah for these talentless spergs. FFXIV content creation has been a ghetto since 2.0 and none of the established names are prepared for the influx of streamers and content creators from WoW that know what they're doing. MrHacky is going to mald hard when a bunch of WoW streamers get invited to the Endwalker media tour and Ethys will have some major melties if Pyromancer decides to channel his lore autism into FFXIV now that he's dropped WoW.

The Work to Game grifters will be fine though. I've already noticed them streaming more GW2, so that's presumably the next gaming ghetto they'll colonize.

The people coming over also played games where it's easier to make content. FFXIV is pretty cut and dry, with no room for growth. What are you gonna talk about in the game really? Most people will watch a guide when a patch comes out and that's it really. Other shit is people reading patch notes, or showing of mog fucking station items. I'm sure some people make videos for fun and if they wanted to try and do a bit more, it's really hard to get anything going for a game like FFXIV.

If there's one thing I've learned from watching Asmon stream XIV, it's that the idea that XIV is a hard game to come up with content for is incorrect. It's just that nobody is quite as ruthlessly efficient at extracting content from games as the WoW crowd.

Annie Fuschia got thousands of viewers just doing ARR gathering logs and cheevo hunting. Cohh just hangs out and fishes. Rich does whatever the fuck he does (I can't stand him).

The problem with the big XIV content creators prior to this influx is simple - with the exception of Zepla, they're all raidniggers. And nobody actually wants to watch raidniggers.

EDIT: As another example, look at how big Animal Crossing was on Twitch for a few months. If you're affable enough, you can get hundreds of hours of streamable content out of boring 'lifestyle' games. And XIV has unfathomable amounts of lifestyle content.

Think I've said it before but videos fleshing out and explaining more obscure or obtuse elements of XIV's lore, with decent production values, would be absolutely welcome. Of course, that requires someone to actually pay attention to even the finest story beats that most people skim over and then bitch about later.

I'd personally find it funny if we also had someone talking about historic moments within XIV's community – as in, typical player mentalities and/or reactions to things during certain time periods of the game's life cycle – but I'm completely certain no one's willing to do that because most of the playerbase would throw a shitfit over someone rightly demonstrating the actual bullshit that the community's been capable of.

Yeah. Someone could do all that but I still see trying to take off in FFXIV content creation is really rough start. The best time for them would be when an expansion comes out or big thing happens like ultimate.

One of MrHappy's most popular videos is his history of FFXIV raids vid. The fact that he hasn't really done anything like it since is pretty baffling.

You must free your mind from the raidnigger ghetto, brother. WoW had its largest content creator renaissance during Warlords of Draenor, an expansion with next to no content. Any game with a shitload of things to collect or obscure lore can be a content goldmine.

It has nothing to do with raids. FFXIV is a boring game to watch, that is all. There's plenty of stuff to dig into but most people watch FFXIV for copy and pasted memes.
