It was an argument that happened in an ffxiv discord that made me laugh hysterically. But I’ll give you a TL;DR summary. Basically some guy got asshurt about cringe culture and Mary Sues (which I have yet to hear about as of 2019) and he was talking about how people should accept inserts and that there’s nothing wrong with them. The admin basically said she didn’t like them and didn’t think self inserts were good writing and this guy proceeded to get pissed. During the convo (and I can tell when someone is manipulatively intentionally failing to understand someone this is a game teenagers love to do) he pretended he didn’t understand the admin when she was stating her opinions. It didn’t work on her and things spiraled out of control from there. He proceeded to leave when other admins came in and said this convo needed to be dropped. Sorry if my formatting sucked but it was a long convo that I thought needed full context because there was a lot to it.
TL;DR, RP spergs have a discussion about hating the use of the term "Mary Sues" in RP. Turns to the subject of self-insert characters, who are usually inclined towards being "Mary Sues". One individual states that every self-insert they've ever known has been a piece of shit. Another sperg, CharoChaos, throws a hissy fit because they apparently play a self-insert and they felt personally attacked. And despite explaining to the faggot several times that nobody has any personal biases against them in spite of being a self-insert, they continue to throw fits until mods (I guess?) shut the whole conversation down because the faggot steadily devolves into shit-flinging over a difference in opinion.
This, to me, is the biggest reason to push against self-inserts. not every self insert is a bad character, but every person who plays self inserts will get extremely pissy if you criticise the self-insert.
i really wish they didn’t merge some servers into crystal so i wouldn’t be constantly associated with erpers and other weirdos.
