Absolute fucking nightmare Great Cosmos Duty Finder yesterday. DRK, WHM, MCH and myself as a MCH.

Other MCH never used Bioblaster nor Flamethrower, saw two Automaton Queens the entire run. Complete shitter with half 520 gear and the 515 weapon for some reason. Took for fucking ever to get through. His name was Noctis C'ealum or some shit, proving again that people who name themselves after other Final Fantasy characters are complete dogshit at the game.
Tank was clueless, we died four times on the last boss because he and the healer dropped their Black Flame markers on the furniture, so there was no furniture left for them to drop the blue flames.
"Don't put red flame on the stuff" said the healer after doing it twice himself.
Had aggro half of the time, always switching between yellow and orange. Told tank to taunt, not a single taunt was given that day.
None of them were new to the dungeon.

It should quit, this shit isn't good for my health.

Cool! Didn't know there was a trial, thanks for the info.

In general does the community welcome new players and is there going to be stuff for me to do and same-level people to play with?
Do yourself a favor and just keep to yourself, that's what I do. Don't believe the "oh the community is so much better than WoW's" lie, because its not.

Ironically the best way to enjoy this MMORPG is to play it like a Single-player RPG.
Plus it helps if you are an autist like me who hasnt been able to make a friend in 4 years of playing this game.

We trading recent horror stories? I've got a few from before reset last week.

Normal Raid roulette, got Eden's Promise, wiped once during first phase because the healers kept eating every single mechanic. Then wiped again at 30% on the final phase because, once again, the healers kept eating every single mechanic. It was the first time I've ever wiped on final phase, and thus, I had the displeasure of discovering that the entire fight, including the cinematics and memory phases, completely resets if you wipe at any point, so that was some mind-numbingly fun tedium.

Trial roulette, got Warrior of Light, wiped twice during the first phase because the healers and the single Red Mage in the party kept eating all the mechanics. Finally get to last phase, proceeded to wipe three more times not only due to the healers and Red Mage eating every mechanic, but they also kept timing their Raises on each other to where they'd either Raise into a mechanic, press a button, and then eat shit, or they'd hold onto their Raises until AFTER they needed to be up and healing.

Level 80 roulette, got Amaurot, wiped twice from trash pulls because the healer wasn't keeping up, the Red Mage was eating AoEs, and the sole Machinist in the party kept kiting the entire trash pull all the way back to the entrance whenever I was Raised by the healer. Then proceeded to wipe three times to the final boss because the healer kept standing in Deathly Ray and taking their sweet ass time to move out of it, often tiptoeing their character only so far that their player model was physically OUT of the ray's visual effect, but their hitbox (?) was still clipping the ray itself. Red Mage was eating shit as well the whole fight, so their backup Verraise couldn't be counted on. Healer kept apologizing profusely and beating themselves up over dying constantly. The Red Mage, who kept eating mechanics, finally explained how to move out of Deathly Ray, and the healer finally got their shit together. Did manage to find out I could probably solo that last boss by myself as a Tank if it didn't destroy all the safe spot platforms for Apokalypsis.

Normal Raid roulette, got Eden's Promise again on daily reset, didn't exactly wipe but it was the same story as the first. The healers and Red Mage were determined to eat every single mechanic and the only saving grace was a panic Healer LB3 during a tight spot on the last phase and the 3 of them being at least pretty tight on their Raises/Verraises.

Wow you guys have shitty luck. I rarely get parties that bad unless I queue as a tank. Whenever I queue as a tank, I always get the world's most retarded healer or dps.

Lost count of how many times I got a BLM who never touched their aoe spells when I mass pulled or a healer that couldn't take their fucking finger off the attack spells to fucking heal me.

I usually make videos of my horror stories, so instead of describing my horror story, here is a 13 minute long video of absolute misery and 2 of the worst healers I've ever seen in my almost 9 years of playing this MMO.

Thanks to me, we bumbled through without a wipe but it was still the most agonizing 13 minutes of my fucking life.

Its actually worse. Say what you want about the spergfests that happen on WoW, FFXIV seems to be crawling with open sociopaths. I unfortunately have no proof, but people in that game will relocate properties when new wards come out just to set the timer on them, sometimes people will bait others into fights so they can report them and get them banned, intentionally wiping groups to do the same thing, promotion and engagement in fucked up fetishes like necrophilia and beastiality, I could go all day about the party finder, sex pests with no regard asking openly to fuck you, the modding community and twitter accounts, I could go on.

Same, actually. It's rare I get the horror stories.

Well, there was that one time when I got a sprout tank in Copperbell's who didn't know what a tank stance was and only did his 1-2-3 rotation for the entire dungeon. We ended up having our RDM tank the mobs while we just dragged the tank along. It was actually pretty fun trying to keep the RDM alive as the errant SCH there, so the tank got props for making it interesting at least.

But I cannot actually think of anymore memorable shit, aside from the odd bad co-healer.

Maybe occasionally fucking up in company of friends/SO is better, so that's why it is a lot more frustrating when you just queue in the PF?
That aside, I'm that healer that eats mechanics and apologizes, and then dies a lot, especially when trying to escape from rl stress in game - or at least, used to be. Getting too emotional never helps.

PF is the reason why I believe the Blacklist shouldnt be capped.
What’s your experience on which roles end up causing the most problems or what specific problems each one tends to cause? Since I switched to healer coming from DPS in WoW I’ve found it’s usually the tanks causing issues when they bite off more than they can chew/don’t use mitigation CDs/only went in for quick queues/forget it’s leveling queue and the healer doesn’t have the spells to clean up crazy damage yet; though the DPS people seem more visibly toxic.

Double Scholar... that’s unlucky.

I haven't tried MCH, but compared to red mage how easy is it?

Samurai seemed to have the hardest rotation so far.
Facer-roll easy; the only thing that may throw people off is correctly timing the use of your heat/battery gauge but those are like learning when to use your melee combo for RED. It used to be MUCH more difficult back in Heavensward but Squeenix realized no one played the job and gave it an overhaul. If you want to hurt your brain, try out high level BLM.

MCH is very very simple. The only complex things you ever deal with are making sure your drills line up with Ressamble, and charting Queen (your summonable robot) out to line up with raid buffs.

RDM is also very simple but the complexity comes in from melee combo and knowing when it's safe to get it out. Embolden is a big buff your group so lining that, Manafication, and then getting your full combo out during buffs is where the complexity lies in with the fight's mechanics.

MCH is even easier than SAM. You got your 1-2-3 combo, two abilties you should mix in between (Gauss Shot and Ricochet) because they're off the GCD. Doing your combos builds heat, at 50 heat you can use Overcharge and get access to Auto Crossbow (cone shaped AoE for crowds) and Heat Blast, which reduces the recast timer for Gauss Shot and Ricochet and should be used with Wildfire if it is available

"Wildfire
Covers target's body in a slow-burning pitch. Action is changed to Detonator for the duration of the effect.

Deals damage when time expires or upon executing Detonator.

Potency is increased by 200 for each of your own weaponskills you land prior to the end of the effect."

(Overcharge > Wildfire > Heat Blast and mix Gauss Shot and Ricochet in between if its a single target). Abilities also generate Battery Charge which is used for Automaton Queen (summons a robot, how long depends on how much battery charge you got). The Battery Gauge doesn't go past 100. Spread Shot for aoe if you got nothing else, generates heat. Flamethrower is also a cone shaped aoe, but you can't move during it and it doesn't generate heat nor battery. Lasts 10 seconds.

Reasseamble make your next weaponskill go crit, should be used with Drill or Air Anchor. I use it on Auto Crossbow in dungeons when 3+ mobs. 55 second CD.

Air Anchor is single target with 700 potency, generates 20 battery charge.

There's Drill, a single target skill with a potency of 700 and Bioblaster, a cone shaped DoT aoe. They share a cooldown. 20 second CD.

Tactician is the only support skill MCH has, it's just like DNC's Shield Samba and they don't stack. 10% damage reduction for 15 seconds.

Basically just watch your heat and battery gauge and don't let it go past 100.

Embolden frustrates me to no end. Every time I pop it off I look over at the black mage and see their physical damage buff. Like, great.

or a healer that couldn't take their fucking finger off the attack spells to fucking heal me.
That just jogged my memory about how the healer I had in Amaurot didn't seem to realize there were other offense-based spells in their toolkit than Holy, because Holy was just about the only thing they were ever casting to deal damage. Especially against single targets like bosses. And even then, they weren't casting it all that much.

Also remembering that the second time they let me drop, they had full MP.

I may or may not have seen most of the examples you listed for myself as well, so I'll vouch for them. That promotion and engagement in fucked up fetishes usually results in a hell of a lot of blackmail as well, because seemingly more than half of the community is literally too socially retarded to put their foot down and say "No, fuck you, I'm not doing that sick shit," to anyone who SEEMS to have a little bit of clout that coerces them. And then you get the fun drama of watching a whole sub-community go full "callout culture" and "he said, she said" slapfighting while it tears itself apart. I may have seen even non-RP focused FCs fall apart to this in the past.

I just finished the ARR storyline and I don't really have any deep thoughts on the story itself but I thought it was interesting how the randos you're matched with for the final dungeon appear with you in the cutscenes.

Don't get used to it. SE realized people didn't want to wait around for cutscenes during dungeons. We like to go fast, especially if we have to do it over and over. So after that, they kept the cutscenes for after the dungeon is done.
