Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

been playing since december, im halfway done with stormblood and finished heavensward a week ago. im not rushing, just NEET but the game is so goddamn addicting.

i was backreading a bit and i havent seen or experienced anything too shitty or sour fanbase wise, but that's cause i stick to small groups. 🤔 the most noteworthy so far is when i witnessed a tank get mad at a healer for not keeping them alive, but that's really it.

good game 👍
The ToS and the general pseudo-hugbox etiquette of the game keeps most interactions polite. You have to have been playing for a long time to run into people who seriously annoy you because they're pretty rare.

Some people in this thread have almost 10,000 hours in this game. Over that timespan, it's inevitable that you'll run into some astonishingly awful behavior even if you mostly stick to groups of people you know.

Kougaon started a war by forgetting about stormblood in one of his memes. It’s trending now on twitter. 4B7617AE-0F3A-49B5-B690-566FC0561D35.png

Stormblood stans are either horny for Lyse or are mad because FFXIV isn't political enough. Also they're invariably all troons or troon-adjacent and thus you can safely ignore them.

FFXIV twitter fucked up by paying attention to them in the first place.

all Stormblood fans either have their hands in their pants for Lyse or are scalies who wank it to the steppe Au'Ra bara dudes getting pegged by buff Au'Ra women

That being said i like Tsukiyomi's trial and alot of the shit leading up to it, but thats post-SB proper i guess, the Trials as a whole are pretty fun too imho, better than SHB's trials besides maybe WoL

Dude SB trials simply knock it out the park. Susano is still a fun (and now, early) casual wall, and Lashkmi never fails to make me laugh with the bosom attack.

Yeee, SB's flip flopping and switching between a slightly interesting Not-Japan to a really boring as fuck Gyr Abania (had to look it up lmao) was only carried by the fact that all of its trials are lowkey kino, even some dungeons

StB is stupid simply because the inciting incident that leads to the entire expansion kicking off happens because of a colossally stupid decision that makes no sense at that point in the story.

Hi, yes, we have these incredibly powerful artifacts from an incredibly pissed off dragon who hates everything. Let's just toss it into a hole and be done with it, ignoring the fact that there are incorporeal beings who can seemingly go anywhere and an innumerable amount of horrors and ancient evils that have been unearthed after being sealed away/buried for eons. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

Lyse dragging down every single scene she's in and making at least 60% of the MSQ a joyless slog is just the icing on the cake. I liked what they were trying to go for, but the execution comes off as really flat for the most part.

StB really should've focused on Raubahn as being the focal character for the Ala Mhigo side of things, and have him coming to terms with everything that's happened, his feelings for his homeland, etc. I think the devs realized this, given the exposition dumps we got near the tail end and also had the realization that no one gives a shit about Lyse. What the hell makes her qualified to be a leader?

(I know the answer: Japan and their lust for pretty blonde waifus is part of their cultural DNA.)

I disagree I think Stormblood had the best trials in the game, Susano, Lakshimi all of the 4 lords, they're great especially on extreme!

The pit is basically a cold harsh wind vacuum that would kill basically anyone except Ascians/WoDs due to them basically being Ascians as explained in 3.4, it is like trying to dive down a washing machine filled with glass that hits sub zero temperatures. You have to talk to NPCs to understand that cliff, Hilda specifically brings it up, but it isn't exactly just a cliff.

Holding onto the eyes is stupid as we have no idea what carrying them around would do to us or Alphinaud, or anyone else really. Storing them does nothing to stop Ascians (because Incorporeal) and some fucktard in Ishgard would probably try to take them and fuck it up anyway, if HW is supposed to teach anything is that Ishgard can't be trusted with mass draconic power. So we want these eyes as far away as possible from everyone who can't be trusted and could be corrupted by them.

Destroying them is like potentially setting off a bomb on a bridge due to the latent aether in them considering it had enough aether to make Shinryu despite Nidhogg being dead for days/weeks/months/whatever. Estinien kills the eyes because Shinryu basically sucked up most the aether by the end of us fighting it and presumably the Nidhogg enhanced lance lets Estinien easily manage to destory them fine. The eyes power isn't well explained due to plot convenience I'll give you that, but I don't think anything except destroying them (and hoping nothing goes wrong in doing that) is a good solution so every other solution is about as effective as chucking them in the pit to me and that choice at least keeps mortals from doing anything with them.

It is also implied to be a very spur of the moment choice given the risk of holding onto those things is unknown, and WoL's protection is unknown if it'll actually work on Nidhogg's influence considering pulling out the eyes was still actively showing them in pain to the same degree as Alphinaud and Alphinaud is also in danger. So I think the reason is fine personally, not beautifully written or anything but passable. Their are far stupider choices in this game.

Lyse is given leadership because nepotism, her sister was cool therefore she must be cool. That is the summary really as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, I get that this particular chasm is special or whatever, but it just seems like a really lazy approach to things and, as you said, rather poorly explained.

It's just weird given that the Scions have an answer to literally everything but the best they can come up with is tossing it into a pit. I'd figure that there'd be some concern, some exploration, anything, really. Like, I can't imagine the Scions, whose sole objective is to 'safeguard the future of Eorzea' would think that they would be safe there when they're well aware that the Ascians are all over the goddamned place.

I get that maybe tossing them in the spur of the moment or whatever. But to never revisit it until it was too late just seems like a gaffe and really dumb.

Yeah, I understand that Lyse really only has her family name, but from a narrative perspective, there's no reason to give a shit about her, her backstory or anything really. A reluctant or inexperience protag has been done a million times (and better even within FF. See: Terra from FF6 for a real basic bitch example) but Lyse's entire backstory comes from out of fucking nowhere as a really stupid "reveal" and she just basically angsts through the MSQ until Conrad gets slotted and anoints her leader.

Then her big narrative moment is changing into a dress. lol

Again, I get it (Japan loves beautifur bronde waifus), but she drags down what was already a pretty meh expansion.

Also, came across this while looking up the Scion's mission statement:

Because the one thing XIV desperately needed was an African-American Alphinaud:

There are people who seriously think the twins should be black because their grandfather had dark skin so this isn’t surprising at all.

Also StB stans are so fucking sensitive and despite loving the expansion pack they constantly screech about how horribly colonialist and racist it is for some reason.

FFS, it's called a 4-panel comic for a reason.

I would love to see their reaction when you remind them that Lyse's dad has dark skin.

Yeah, the mod author (I think) more or less specifically addresses this on their (you guessed it) Tumblr.

Oh, they want to darken her, too, because Ala Mhigo is a proxy-Arab state or some gobbledygook.
