Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

KR MMOs are grindy and annoying to get through for most people so it filers casuals assuming it isn't just shit to begin with
don't forget in those games they are also more expensive since cosmetic shit is usually gated behind RNG or part of gear etc. the dress-up part is affordable, which makes ff14 and gw2 very attractive to certain players.
it's also THE game everybody was/is talking about, so plenty of people to groom show your char off too and hide in the crowd.

MMOs simply aren't conductive to good writing. You've got a static world that never changes (with the exception here of player housing), a strangling character limit, and the incredible awkwardness that is attempting to describe any sort of drama or tension while a guy in a chocobo costume keeps hopping around in the background. It's the kind of thing that, sure, maybe it's fine for an awkward kid to get up to, but the moment you've had a taste of what it is to sit down and just crank out something longer-form (collaborative or not), you can't really look at with more than disdain.

In general, the MMO-roleplayer is defined by the clause "can't." They can't play the game, they can't write, they can't lead a stable life, they can't grow up, etc. etc. While there are exceptions to every rule, virtually every "good" roleplayer eventually realizes the limits of the "medium" as well as the embarrassing nature of their peers and moves away from it. It used to be that I found roleplaying servers to be more laid-back than the parsetrannies, but nowadays the new crop seems to have found more and more ways to be just as enraging, if with a different spin.
that's why smart devs put the important stuff in instanced zones.

as for writing, imo it really depends. the type of RP you'll find in ff14 will be quite a bit different than say lord of the rings online or even more niche games/private servers, on top of regional differences (burger RP always felt a bit different than euro RP, and that's before you get into the foreign stuff like french/german. the latter especially loves their RP).

I've lost some friends through this game too. I've made very little friends through it.
I have never once made a friend through XIV and I've lost most of my long-time friends through it as well.

The only smart people have been the ones who try it for less than a week and then never come back.

and that's before you get into the foreign stuff like french/german. the latter especially loves their RP).
Oh god yeah they do. Used to know someone bilingual in French and they showed me some of the French forum RP stuff. Couldn't read shit, but the baguettes take their roleplay incredibly fucking seriously and every single post may as well be at least 3-5 pages of a book in length.

For those who play FFXIV. Do you know why the game is shilled by troons so heavily and why they infest it? Wish fulfillment, ERP or pretending to be a woman?
MMOs have been ground-zero for terminally online alphabet people and degenerates since before there were proper MMOs. This one just has a pretty active community and probably the most 'fair' monetization on the market.

Also modern MMO raiding is culturally adjacent to speedrunning, which means troons are never far behind.

There's a lot of shit but it basically comes down to 2 main reasons.

1) The game is very Care Bearsy. MMOs tended to be very hands off with rules enforcement, figuring out the nuts and bolts of the game, etc. WoW is the big example, but there's no real theorycrafting, there's nothing inherently 'hard' about the main components of the game, and the game really holds the player's hand. For your average Troon Sexpest Gaming Journalist who can't master Cuphead, that sort of babying is paradise. The fact that the GMs actively enforce 'harassment' means that there's no real shenanigans and, like mold on a damp piece of bread, are left to grow unchecked.

2) Realization of their stupid-ass sex pest fantasies. Yes, being able to play dress up with a woman is important. But there's a lot of shit that's unisex, a lot of the characters are androgynous or soft/feminine featured so you get a lot of 'traps' (or whatever the current PC term is), genderbent shit, 'himbos' and basically the whole gamut of genderspecial bullshit. The 'big deal' during the last Dev Meeting was that things like Maid costumes were being made unisex and people would not shut up about it for like 2 weeks or so. Add in the fact that there's a dedicated (and creepy) modding community that lets you give the cherubic looking midget tits the size of small boulders and a horse cock and, welp.

I can't play FFXIV anymore because my ISP has decided to be dogshit forever and I get tons of T-4 timeouts daily. I've had 4 techs over in the past 2 months. When they "fix" stuff everything is fine for 24 hours but then the DCs come back again. Sucks. I can play stuff with my friends like Monster Hunter because if I get DCed its no big deal (internet comes back after 3-5 minutes) but FFXIV? Yeah, forget it.

We can't change ISPs because spectrum is the only thing in our area.

Less than five hours until live letter. If we don't get a 6.1 release date I'll riot.

Here's my preliminary take on the current Live Letter while it's still ongoing:

Ultimate still on schedule for 6.1. New ultimate in 6.3. Potentially another ultimate in 6.5.

Xeno must be jizzing his pants right now.

People getting uber attatched to their characters is still very funny because theres always several chances that there will be a character that looks 1:1 to their special snowflake OC because customization is limited as fuck and 9/10 times they choose the same glam because edge or coom,(e.g 2B bottoms, PvP gear) or because its easy to get kek (although ill admit i use Pvp gear as glam filler because some of it looks neat)

I noticed it on Male Viera and i think i posted it here too, but everyday in limsa i saw 3 or 6 motherfuckers who chose the exact same presets lmao

dunno, I always had pretty chill people around (helped by them being closer to boomers in more boomer friendly games that aren't hyped as fucked). raiding is like finding the right guilds, there are guild run by utter dipshits, as there are raids lead by tryhard sweatlords with zero social competence. no point wasting time in either, simply built your own circle to communicate with (even easier now than it was back then) and go from there. eventually if you put in a modicum of effort you'll eventually end up with likeminded people to hang out with and do shit together.

I'm not going to pretend my character is unique in any manner but I've yet to see a Male Viera that looks like mine yet and honestly, it's a little weird.
Like do I just have unusual taste or something?

Face 2 and 3 definitely seem more popular than face 1 and 4. I'll admit I'm a basic face 2 bitch myself cause I think Shouta Aoi is peak male perfection.

I've yet to run into a male viera player who isn't either a flaming homosexual or a girl playing as male viera for coomies.
I just always played a character with white hair/red eyes, I thought it would be funny to swap to an albino rabbit.

Is there a good tldw of the LL? I tried searching for foot notes on twitter but that was an impossible task and I saw way too much questionable Hrothgar art.

Its reddit, but it mostly sums up everything.

For a shorter summary

Graphical updates to textures will be potentially rolled out over time focusing on character models first, then going from there with things like ground/grass/lighting/gear/other npcs/etc. At the latest we'll see this stuff in 7.0 and beyond for things like gear which won't fully be updated across all gear sets, more on priority based on popularity. In short, upscaled 2B leggings inbound.

Road map the entire 6.1-6.5 patch track, Island sanctuary was pushed even further to 6.2. 6.2 also has something called a "Criterion" dungeon which is a 1-4 player piece of content, I don't recall much being explained about them but they are not deep dungeons (that is in 6.3).

The big 2.0 MSQ instances from Cape Westwind to Praetorium will be either turned into a solo instance or a 4 man dungeon, they'll also be updating the trust system to be usable from 2.0 and beyond starting from the beginning. This also means MSQ rou is dying.

They've outright stated that the patch cycle will be scheduled for 4 months now instead of the roughly 3.5 months they've been at, this is for the sake of QA testing apparently.

As far as story concerns go, they've answered one of the biggest speculations of EW's ending by stating that they have no intentions of bringing Zenos back at all, they feel his ending is good where it is.

This should give you a decent idea of where they're going, this LL was basically a roadmap and statement of what the team intends to do with the game going forward, their were very few real announcements or dates given. The next LL is in early march where they'll actually discuss 6.1 content.

>Trusts are being expanded as of 6.1 and throughout this expansion's patch cycle to include every MSQ dungeon ultimately up to Stormblood – each patch will include a little more of each expac's MSQ, starting with 2.x, a few 3.x, the rest of 3.x, and all of 4.x during the final two major patch cycles of Endwalker
>Cape Westwind is being removed as a trial and replaced with a solo instanced duty
>Castrum Meridianum and The Praetorium are being converted into 4-man dungeons and adjusted accordingly
>Ultima Weapon is also becoming a 4-man battle, and the final battle with Lahabrea at the end of 2.0 is instead being made a solo-instanced duty
>certain older dungeons will be adjusted in design around the Trusts, case in point, the green goop near the end of Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak is having its Heavy effect removed
>lighting systems, shaders, and graphics will be updated eventually to improve visual quality – it will NOT be matching a standalone AAA game, though
>game system requirements will be bumped up as a result while still being factored for mass compatibility
>PS4 support is still being maintained at this time. Don't hold your breath for it going into 7.0 and later, however.
>Hildibrand will be back as of 6.1
>Tataru has a brand new series of sidequests
>First Alliance raid comes in 6.1
>new PvP mode
>new Beast Tribe quests
>Ishgard housing being added
>Ameliance (twins' mom) added for custom deliveries
>new Ultimates
>"Criterion" dungeons (1-4 player new dungeons with variable difficulty)
>Island Sanctuaries added in 6.2, expanded throughout the patch cycles
>new Deep Dungeon series in 6.3
>Blue Mage is planned to be updated, but no news yet
>may be more plans for this expansion's patch cycle on the way, but no announcements yet
>patch cycles will take longer from now on (roughly two weeks longer than normal)
>one week added to seasonal events as well

Skimming over the finer details (what little there was) about a lot of things here but that's the gist of it. Someone more autistic than myself can probably fill in the blanks on the nitty gritty.
