FFXIV is a main stream MMO with a very niche idea for an MMO, if this game was made by anyone smaller and with less brand recognition and you changed nothing else (the writing, the content, everything) it would never reach the level of success that it has. So I don't really disagree that this is a very weird thing for an MMO, but it does fit within what FFXIV tries to be and I'd rather keep that then force it to be something it isn't.that's fine and all, but starts to get retarded when you just stack more shit on top, thus forcing people having to play through content from years ago (but hey, you can buy a skip!). imagine you buy the latest FF or tales but need to play all other parts first or pay more, how many people would stick with that?
don't get me wrong, it does filter some of the more tryhard sweaties, but also a good chunk of other players. worse, there's really no "need" to have everything tied to the MSQ, sure you'll see some stuff out of order, but at least there would be a choice and even a smoothbrain would figure out in time how it all relates (worst case he can just read it up).
sometimes you just want grind and level, not read/watch dozens of dialogs and cutscenes.
Even ARR would've probably died at 2.0 if it was its own IP. Part of the draw going forward from 2.0 was seeing how far they were going to take making XIV basically be a melting pot of every other FF before and after it, so the brand recognition appeal definitely helped.FFXIV is a main stream MMO with a very niche idea for an MMO, if this game was made by anyone smaller and with less brand recognition and you changed nothing else (the writing, the content, everything) it would never reach the level of success that it has.
Internet 1.0 MMOs EverQuest and FF XI are examples of what happens when you cater to the vocal sweaty kids. Even SE isn't dumb enough to encourage YoshiP to cater to them anymore. Most of the fun I get out of this game is the story, characters, and dressing up my warrior of light, so I'd definitely be one of the people who'd be disappointed if they'd cater more to the hardcore raid crowd to the detriment of other elements.
Jeff Kaplan has a lot to answer to for what he did to the MMO genreInternet 1.0 MMOs EverQuest and FF XI are examples of what happens when you cater to the vocal sweaty kids. Even SE isn't dumb enough to encourage YoshiP to cater to them anymore.
Yoshi-P did say in one of the media tour interviews that he was considering this problem of the MSQ being legitimately too long for a reasonable person to get caught up to. Which means he's probably been thinking on it for a few years now and the decision to wrap up the story neatly in Endwalker is part of their plan to deal with this.that's fine and all, but starts to get retarded when you just stack more shit on top, thus forcing people having to play through content from years ago (but hey, you can buy a skip!). imagine you buy the latest FF or tales but need to play all other parts first or pay more, how many people would stick with that?

I legitimately wonder what they'll do with the levels if that is the case or with expansion job additions? I can't imagine a more "horizontal" FFXIV without something just getting all messed up.Yoshi-P did say in one of the media tour interviews that he was considering this problem of the MSQ being legitimately too long for a reasonable person to get caught up to. In all likelihood I think we'll see a completely new storyline start up for 7.0 and you'll be able to start characters 'fresh' from there with only minor hooks to the Hydaelyn-Zodiark storyline for people who take longtime characters there. I'd enjoy more horizontal progression mechanics in FFXIV akin to what you see in FFXI (just without the insanity).
I'm guessing that there will be a soft reboot in 7.0, with fresh characters possibly undergoing a separate MSQ just to get them caught up. (Methinks they might be the adventurers going around killing blasphemies during the 6.0 happenings.) I don't forsee them abandoning the gear treadmill that has been a staple of the series so far, however, so I doubt they'd be any horizontal progression.I legitimately wonder what they'll do with the levels if that is the case or with expansion job additions? I know the MSQ is far too long for most people, especially true full blown 1-2 hours of game time every couple of days casuals, I just don't want FFXIV to just fall into a ditch of trying to solely fish for new players like a lot of long running games run into and it makes it hard to retain the current population. Though we do need something of a "reset" from all the cosmic bullshit that the last few years have introduced from a narrative perspective.
Post 6.0 Endwalker will be a very weird time for this game that's for sure, at least on a narrative level.
This sounds like another 1.0 character vs 2.0+ character sort of thing, which as someone who knows someone who has a 1.0 character I'm not sure how thrilled I'll be by such a thing. Because they barely acknowledge your 1.0-ness after ARR, and from what I was told Endwalker literally doesn't acknowledge it at all which is a little weird considering the 1.0 WoLs went through frankly way more shit then the 2.0+ WoLs had to.I'm guessing that there will be a soft reboot in 7.0, with fresh characters possibly undergoing a separate MSQ just to get them caught up. I'm gonna need clarification on this one.Bring back the true final boss of XIV.
Bring back the bees.
Gigantic newfag detected.I'm gonna need clarification on this one.
Gigantic newfag detected.
Every bee type enemy in the game has some variation of a channeled attack called "Final Sting". Generally, if you fail to interrupt the cast or don't kill the bee before it can go off, you're going to fucking die. It's very much a nonissue at this point in the game's life cycle because, even with level sync, the DPS has to be exceedingly awful not to be able to burn down bee mobs well before it's ever an issue.
Back in 2.0, however, Final Sting was something people definitely needed to watch out for and have their stun/interrupt abilities ready to fire off.
I've also experienced it in Qarn the rare times I actually get thrown in there, but usually only in cases like I mentioned where the DPS is chewing crayons. They usually can't clear the first boss either because reading is for gay nerds and they refuse to listen when told to "stand on the glowing platform to clean your Doom".Can confirm this is still an issue in Sunken Temple of Qarn.
Ah, I think I saw that when I very first started playing. Gridania I think. Don't think I've ever seen it casted since.Gigantic newfag detected.

Amdapor Keep's second boss, the Demon Wall, was a legit wall for scrubs and new players back in 2.0. Demon Wall had a much harsher dps check before he well...crushed you, the bee adds could kill you easily so you had to waste dps killing them, and Demon Wall was in general just more dangerous. Now he's a joke even before we overgeared the hell out of everything.I'm gonna need clarification on this one.
