Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Can attest to this. SEnix seems to be prioritizing server and game stability over nr of people logged in.

Also I thought WoW handled their xpac release decently. Or am I just hearing nostalgic rose-tinted memories from my WoW friends?

Most WoW launches had a number of problems.

Vanilla was by far the worst, largely because they had underestimated how popular the game was going to be and they got rocked. Very similar to what is happening now with XIV, but this was like 15 years ago, so tech and the such wasn't as good as it is now.

So you'd have constant server crashes, serverwide lag (characters would get stuck in the kneeling looting position, for example) and massive queues.

It got a bit better with TBC. I remember logging in and getting to play a bit on launch night, but it got worse by the weekend.

Wrath was fairly okay, from what I remember. I think that was probably the smoothest launch they had had, as they were more or less prepared with the subscriber base and had gotten some experience under their belts and were also smart about funneling players into different starting zones/areas vs EVERYONE getting funneled through the Dark Portal and into Hellfire Pennisula in TBC.

Cataclysm had a bunch of crashing issues at launch.

MoP was a shit show. Queues were somewhat bad, which was compounded with the intro quests funneling players into one specific area which led to problems like this. For those unfamiliar, that was basically an on rails open world event where you had to destroy set quest items. Imagine the Golden Saucer Air Force FATE where you have to destroy the targets, but you're competing with a thousand other people and it just loops endlessly until you've completed it because there's no shared quest mechanics.

Dunno about subsequent expansions as I wasn't Day 1 playing them. I know that Warlords of Draenor had some issues and Blizzard issued some free game time as a result.

The current queue issues with XIV are probably most similar to Vanilla WoW's launch, but that's largely confined to the queue side of things. I am experiencing some ability lag/latency issues during primetime in-game and I think the game has crashed on me 2x, but is far more stable than Vanilla WoW was.

E: And now I'll throw an autistic tantrum as I'm finally getting hit with the 2002 errors. 4x in the past hour or so and been bumped from 1900ish in line to 3k+. Serves me right for going out and getting drunk last night. REEEEEEEE...

This is what's making me MATI. I don't mind having to sit in the queue, but having to babysit for when I get 2002'ed means I can't really even go do other shit while I'm waiting. Was just at 700, now at 3400....

WoD was by far the worst. So many people logging on and waiting in front of the dark portal for the expansion to start, the game servers couldn't handle it, it was super glitchy and laggy if you managed to log in at all.

Yeah, I got 2002'd, tried logging back in, got an immediate 2002 error x3, then finally got back in and my position was reset. What's weird is that this is the first I've had serious issues with getting logged in, so yay for being lucky, I guess.

I've been bounced 2x since then but was able to get back in and 'retain' my position.

servers are burning atm.

Connection seems very choppy and some actions take long to be registered by the server.
Its to be expected, as covid and the WoW-refugees are trying to scramble in

So for leveling reaper I'm guessing 70-80 bozja and then EW Fate/dungeons/challenge log to 90?
yeah for now at least
Also based FFXIV burning servers gate keeping out all the non neets. I get to game from midnight to noon with no issues and no queues

Bozja (at least Zandor, no idea about southern front as Zandor seems to go faster for me) is actually efficient from 70-90, I think 87-89 can be better with dungeons if you get good queues and a good run (wall 2 wall pull, dps healers, no wipes, usual stuff). The only reason NOT to use Bozja is frontline roulette (which is about 20-30 minutes in Bozja done in about 15 minutes) and if you just plain get bored. Even MSQ roulette is slower then Bozja by a lot if you get a good train going.

Once the plotwatcher casuals finish the MSQ, server queues should be better. And then we'll see another round of dropoffs after everyone finishes the normal raid storyline and we settle in for a content lull until 6.1 in March/April.

It will be if it stays like this for more than a couple of weeks.
Your best bet in my experience is early morning. "Early" being I'd say around 6 to 10 am depending on the day and your time zone (west coast vs east coast in America for example), that's how I've logged in 9 times out of 10 throughout this whole expansion launch.

Yes I know this sounds dumb, but this is the clown world of expansion launches.

>sit down to begin my quest
>go to make new character
>literally can't

Thank you Squeenix, very cool!

Finally got a character made only to be faced with a 6,000 person queue.

When they're talking about adding new servers, do they mean literal "new" servers where everyone is going to be starting fresh? Because if that's the case I might just wait until that happens, because the prospect of playing on a server with all new characters sounds very appealing.

Any time after midnight has been the best bet in my experience. After 1-2 am is usually the sweet spot where you either never hit a queue or the queue is in the lower end double-digits. 6 to 10 am is ill-advised since, outside of the percentage of the playerbase that has actual jobs they need to go during the week, it's usually when a fair number of folks are waking up to log back on, so the population starts going up again.

In regards to population issues, I'm now seeing people idling in Sharlayan, showing off previous expansion glamours and not even having attempted the new endgame stuff, and I just can't help but wonder what possesses them to continue their idling, with absolutely nothing particularly worthwhile at this point to show off. Literally just taking up server space others could be using to actually play the game.

Conversely, I also saw a level skipping sprout with the name "Ascian Fandaniel," decked out with the full appearance settings and glamour, dancing near the aetheryte and getting randomly /slapped by passersby. At least that's a more entertaining manner of idling.

A fair number of people will probably just transfer or buy skips. Keep your expectations low.

After midnight isn't that good for me because of my time zone compared to other parts of the world that share my data center, it is "better" but not good enough to make new characters especially on a weekend. You need basically zero queue to make a new character.

6-8 am was when I always logged on in 2 minutes or less even week 1 when the rush was at it worse (it is how I beat the MSQ in about 5 days of no life grinding. It wildly depends on your time zone in relation to everyone else's time zone on your server. Like if you're west coast US for example, then yeah morning is more sketchy and after midnight might be better, but if you're east coast US then morning is probably better.

If only that "Fandaniel" had a "Hermes" next to him, it'd be perfect then.

Also that crypto reddit thread that was posted here had so much slap fighting and circle jerking, holy shit.
