all other tanks get essays worth of effects for their party or enhanced mitigations while DRK just gets a heart of stone with two charges and 5% less dmg reduction shh i know TBN is already pretty great but just let me sperg a bit

pepe noose.png

atleast Shadowbringer, and the fact that Frey can use it is cool, right?

only real neat thing is that and the salted earth change/addition

"Should we maybe cut some slight bloat and improve Dark Knight's kit a little?"
"Nah, fuck it. Give 'em a two charge shield, 2 charges of their gap closer, and a stronger AoE."

Still not sure if that's better or worse than PLD generally having all of its potencies decreased/having less potency than the other Tanks while having the most group healing tools. Or Warrior becoming more braindead. Or Gunbreaker making a bid at being as strong as a Warrior.

Yeah think ill just deadass change to GNB or PLD instead of keeping at it for DRK's muh plot and berserk fanboyism

Still hurts tho

So I'm sure most people know this, but damn is the Road to 70 buff a godsend for people who usually don't like crafting or gathering. It only took me a couple of days to be a level 50 Alchemist and Botanist.
That's actually pretty normal leveling for DoH/DoL these days. If you spam leves/ishgard resto, you can have all your crafters and gatherers capped in less than a month of lazy half-grinding. tbh the most time-consuming part is grinding yellow scrips for your catch-up gear.

Leaks happened. Fingers pointing at some streamer named Rin but we'll find out who it was eventually because they put watermarks/a unique barcode on the images they shared if you lighten them. We get to see all the brand new buttons and nerfs for Endwalker. Only tanks and healers so far but DPS leaks are occuring on /v/ right now and I'll add them once they're done. Somebody has compiled the ones so far into nice collages. Discuss fags.

I'm personally excited for the GNB changes. It's been the only class I play since I unlocked it. Heart of stone change, two aurora charges, burst strike continuation, big fucking damage off double down and a third cartridge charge makes me happy.
lmao they gave scholar a targetable version of Warrior's Equilibrium. The numbers are kinda low on it tho, tbh.

Square really needs to hire someone to rewrite some of these effect. Feels like I'm reading a Yugioh card's effect.

Also glad to see that they decided not fix SCH's janky kit or DRK's lackluster skills and abilities.

I mean, my eyes glazed over when I initially saw all the WORDS WORDS WORDS but once I took the time to read the effects, I understood them pretty easily.

But they really should trim down all the flavoring to the text by now if they really want to simplify the game. You don't need that many words to describe regen and mitigation effects.

Holy god fuck, all the unnecessary prose in Astro's new skills at that.

They should just take the MtG approach and have a block of flavor text at the bottom.
I actually like that idea so that way we can get some optional lore information about each ability that's a little more easily accessible than having to read whatever choice abilities the lorebook decides to describe, or having to look in really vague places to get more details.

Or Gunbreaker making a bid at being as strong as a Warrior.
Gunbreaker has been the strongest damage dealing tank since its release, Warrior despite how big its numbers feel, has been the lowest of the main 4 in damage across the board even with its recent series of buffs.

Paladin needed an essay because PLD's personal defensives have been garbage since ShB's release because it is missing a personal mitigation CD compared to its peers. Also block tends to get nerfed back down to 15%ish at the start of every expansion instead of the 22-23% I believe it is at right now. Gunbreaker's defensives aren't really that good either because Camo is a pretty whatever CD, HoS is great though and will continue to carry the job. The true mitigation God is Warrior, and will continue to be if these leaks are true. Drk/War have by far been the better off of the 4 tanks mitigation wise, especially when Dark Mind works on something important.

Drk's new CD gives them the same amount of personal CDs as War while being tied for most co-tank CDs with Gunbreaker's Aurora and HoS. Which is better will depend on the fight design due to the all or nothing nature of Dark Mind as a CD and if having up to two 10% DRs every 2 minutes that you can place on anyone you want will matter.

I guess SEnix will only buff SCH when everyone flees to Sage. Jesus christ, Yoshi-P don't do the scholar dirty like this.

I don't agree that SCH is dead but sage looks absolutely awesome. I think people are overestimating how useful those Kardia heals are, given the small potency (170) and the fact that they're only bouncing to one target you have to use an ability to change. it seems like a sustain mechanic to me, similar to fairy heals (which are 10 potency higher and auto-cast on any target below the HP threshold) or HOT ticks. I love the Eukrasia and Addersting mechanics, and Pepsis is an interesting one too - it's reminiscent of Emergency Tactics, but given that you have to manually trigger your barrier effects with Eukrasia, it's more like a after-the-fact take-back in case you oops and cast it too late or something

now I will pray to the videogods that somebody leaks the DPS tooltips so I can rub them all over my disgusting body

in case anybody is curious about sage's weird ass ability names, they're largely greek words - it's been ages since I did anything in greek so I don't know them all (and I'm sure they've already been translated elsewhere), but here are some of their meanings:
Dosis (Δοσης) - Dose
Kardia (Καρδια) - Heart
Egeiro (Εγείρω) - Raise
Physis (Φυσις) - Nature (the term "physician" can be roughly etymologically derived as "one who studies nature" i.e. the natural processes of the body)
Phlegma (Φλέγμα) - Phlegm (referring to the humour)
Soteria (Σωτηρία) - Salvation
Eukrasia (Εύκρασία) - Good health (specifically a balance of humours)
Dyskrasia (Δυσκρασία) - Bad health (specifically an imbalance of humours)
Pepsis (Πέψις) - Digestion
Zoe (Ζωή) - Life
Haima (Αίμα) - Blood (the pan- prefix in Panhaima means "all", so Panhaima roughly means everyone's blood)
Toxikon (Τοξικόν) - Toxic
Holos (Όλος) - All or whole (fun fact: the word Catholicism is derived from the greek phrase κατα όλος, meaning according to the whole, i.e. the agreed-upon doctrine of the church)
Krasis (Κρασις) - Mixture

The -chole abilities are referring to bile (one of the critical humors) - I think they're supposed to be the bile of different lifeforms? Druos means oak tree, so I think Druochole is supposed to mean something like "bile of the oak"; tauros being bull, Taurochole would be "bile of the bull"; I'm not sure about Kerachole or Ixochole.

Addersgall/Addersting are likely references to Asclepius, the greek god of medicine, who notably carried a staff with a snake wrapped around it. you've probably seen the Rod of Asclepius before:

Kardia is stronger than Embrace unless they change the pet scaling. The fairy suffers from pet scaling so 180 potency is more like 135 potency iirc as the pet's stats are about 25% lower than the Scholar's own stats.

Kardia is stronger imo mostly because unlike the fairy, it just always works the way you want while the fairy can be stupid and heal you for no reason or a random dps that will be healed later instead of healing the tank. The main drawback is that Kardia doesn't do anything if you actually need to cast a heal or even worse you cast nothing in general, so if that adds up to less overall healing (especially once we use "Soteria" to double its potency for a period of time) depends largely on the fight's design. My gut and experience tells me Kardia will heal more than Embrace in a typical fight.

If Sage > Scholar will be true from a purely numbers perspective, I dunno. As boring as Chain Strat is, it is a good party buff and Sage has no party buff that I see which tells me Sage needs to have some really crazy damage overall to make up for that or enable crazy damage due to not having an Energy Drain like system (thank fucking god) to occupy its healing resources away from its co-healer.

They should just make scholar like bard - give it two (or more?) DoTs and have it use DoT ticks to generate resource. It would be a million times less jank than fucking dissipation and it would give it an actual class identity apart from the other healers.

Anyway, scholar AF sets still have my favorite pieces so it's going to be my main healer in EW regardless of jank.

Same. Though I'm maining SCH out of spite and loyalty.

People meme about scholar but I respect it for what it can do. May not be as flashy and cool as the other jobs but scholar gets the job done and for some people, that's what really matters. Scholars already have their flashy ass seraph anyway, blinds me every damn time I use it.

If people want to drop scholar because it's not cool and flashy enough, while that's a fair call to make, it's also insanely childish at least to me.

You know

Seeing you fellas be more level headed about SCH makes me feel like a bitch for being a nigger over DRK's new kit

It will all probably be fine and fun in the long run

Thanks fellas, this is one of the least autistic places for this game lmao
How can you say that with Zeke sperging every few replies lol.

But yeah, it's not like Dark Knight's suddenly become RUINED, ABSOLUTELY UNPLAYABLE with its new kit. It's just pretty much staying the same as it was with a couple of new buttons and buffs to Living Shadow.

FFXIV's balance is tight enough that it really doesn't matter what you play unless you're going for week 1 raid clears or you're a parsing autist. This game hasn't seen any major balance issues since early Heavensward and that was about 6 years ago. If something does go wrong, SE will fix it in a few months like they did with Ninja in 5.1. Scholar, Dark Knight, whatever, everything has cleared all content at about the same time for the last 7-8 raid tiers if my memory serves me correct. Even back in Ultimate Coil's release, when Drk was labelled "TRASH GARBAGE BAD JOB" it was the first tank to clear ucob that was the hardest content ever made at the time and the "bad tank" cleared it first.

Just play your big sword man and shoot giant abyssal sword lasers if you like how it plays.

How can you say that with Zeke sperging every few replies lol.
What can I say? I'm the full package. I can sperg about raiding and story without skipping a beat. You haven't even seen my final form where I can sperg about Drk's storyline long enough to make a collage essay, so don't tempt me.
