Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Lunarcon wrapped up yesterday and they've already put together a teaser stating it's coming back in 2022.

I got to see a bit of it on the last day but went to sleep after the events wrapped up. But apparently there was a metric shit ton of people hanging out by the main hall area making words in the water with their bodies spelling out Lunarcon. Rubbeross was there too just for the sake of it, not even streaming the event.

For an entirely community run event they ended up reaching around 4K+ people on twitch during the closing ceremonies. That's pretty nuts for what it is altogether, and whatever your opinion of the entire thing was, is an extremely huge sign of how big XIV has become in this past year.

If it keeps the momentum is a whole other issue as more people reach endgame, but doing all in this in the peak content lull is wild.
Good for them. If they enjoy this sort of thing, more power to them. Part of the reason this event had viewership to begin with was that JoCat was involved. The dnd/I like girls guy.

I looked at the lineup of events, and it looked fairly cringe. Way too much staff, way too many pointless "guests" who didn't do much, many events that make no sense to me.

Some are acting as if stage plays are some revolutionary idea. All you can do in FFXIV is emote and type text, most of which is macroed in advance.

I've seen people involved with lunarcon post on their social media with some signature attached to show that they're a mod for lunarcon, big deal!!

I personally don't enjoy the social aspect of FFXIV, I've run into crazy lgbt+ and mentally ill people too often, the sort you can't say anything around without offending.

Gravemind, I just saw
the assassination of Nanamo
and the other leaders really did Raubahn dirty, holy shit. What an absolute betrayal.

The basic gist of why they leave is if say Merlwyb start just shooting everyone it'd be a diplomatic incident to quite frankly a barely standing alliance. What 2.0 doesn't convey very much, because Eorzean political leaders downplay their faults a lot, is how much of a pain in the ass it was to form the Eorzean Alliance. From what I know you effectively spend the most of 1.0's MSQ trying to get these 3 chuckle fucks to stop going "But muh problems" and actually unite. The whole Eorzea arc is effectively one big political game where the WoL and the Scions (+Louisaix) have to fight through everything that stops Eorzea's 5 main city states (Gridania, Limsa, Ul'dah, Ishgard, and Ala Mhigo) from working together through heroics and talking. So no, Merlwyb can't just shoot Lolorito and Kan-E-Senna can't just heal Raubahn even if it'd make things simpler. Unlike when Namano asked them to help when Ul'dah becomes a republic, the monetarists still have legal control over Ul'dah with Namano gone so simply shooting them is a terrible idea from a diplomatic perspective when as of now Raubahn is a traitor and the Scions are considered criminals.

If anything I view this entire event as "Harmless." There are some people involved that do go above and beyond the crazy meter at times (this thread has def showed some in question), and certain creators involved like Happy, are just dumb.

Yeah the moogle troupe + plays are a "cute" idea, but I don't think I can handle it more then a couple of minutes before it just becomes another background piece for talking with others. Ross' did a stream for that in the middle it was more of a way to talk to the creator then actually pay attention to the game.

I do feel that because it's a first people are def going in for the clout, and there are some that are really overreaching when they make statements like that.

I think for what this entire thing is it's fine, it's just the community doing something "Harmless" and some people getting to meet some of their favorite creators at times. You are gonna have those people that enter fight or flight at small things like that, but for me lately I've just been ignoring it and focusing on the things I honestly enjoy about the game from people I'm interested in. Sometimes you just gotta have a pretty fucking big filter to find that stuff out though.

Listen, even at the time all those years ago, I was fully cognizant of the political ramifications of the other nation states getting directly involved in a purely Ul'dahn political affair and I knew for certain that everyone else bailing on us was technically the best choice they could've made under the circumstances.

But fuck their shit anyway. I'd imagine it's even worse if you're with one of their Grand Companies instead, because the fuckers are just leaving behind one of their best strategical, military, and diplomatic assets to the mercy of obviously suspicious circumstances.

So, any pointers on where to find a decent, sperg free community within this shit? CWLS or anything really, kinda wanna exit my faggy FC that i only joined to get free buffs since i kinda wanna get an actual group for EW, but alas, im kinda retarded

I was actually going to attend that in person to see if there was anything crazy to report on the farms, but I got violently ill and I was bedridden for three days straight so unfortunately I missed the boat. Watching the livestreams in retrospective, however, the convention, for an in game one, is surprisingly orderly. So it doesn't look like I missed anything during that time.

I was never a fan of the Eorzea politics plotlines. It got a lot of attention in 1.0, then got handwaved in 2.0. The game IMO does better when it has smaller scale character plots like it does in HW and ShB. The game can't seem to convey the gravitas of big political ploys when a big battle is a dozen NPCs battling each other because of engine limitations.

The world blowing up is window dressing and isn't interesting on its own. What's interesting is how it affects the characters and their interactions with each other;

What makes the sin eater plot interesting is Alisae's interactions/reactions to the other characters in the desert area. Similarly Alphinaud's interactions with the citizens of Eulmore and its ruler, Vauthry. The sin eater threat takes a backseat unless characters are involved, and a corrupt city on its own isn't interesting.

It's not much different from RP events or other stuff that's hosted on Crystal. They're not hurting anybody.

It's just not the sort of stuff that I'm looking for in a video game. I'm a "moment-to-moment" sort of player. When I play a FPS and I headshot a guy, or a shoot em up and I have to dodge all the bullets, or I do this cool combo in FFXIV that looks really cool, or I get to whoop some ass in a multiplayer game with or against people I know. That is the kind of thing that excites me about video games. Standing around watching a bunch of people spam RP macros and feed MIDI files through a program to play in-game isn't that.

I've noticed the public discussion is that it's the best thing ever made, and if you express that you don't like that sorta thing, get the fuck out of here. This is the prime "living in the game" MMORPG experience. A friend showed me a Reddit thread where if you just go "meh, it's sort of cringe", you get downvoted into oblivion. Trying to live in the video game is some severe cope.

And yes, you do need a big filter to keep away from stupid shit.

The people I talk to frequently tend to be people I recruited in my own raid groups. Once groups get past a certain amount of people, it becomes unmanageable. I think you'll have better luck if you want to do something and find people to do it with you, than if you go around trying to find people to be social with for the sake of being social.

Big events tend to contain autism. Many attendees are socially awkward and they'll just stand there. If you want to dig through the trashcan, it seems to me that the reason the con was orderly is that their moderators were trigger happy and removed "problem elements" quickly.

Enough to put Singapore to shame I guess.

To add to all the other spoiler comments:
If you go back after the betrayal, and speak to relevant job trainers/anyone who knows you, they'll either say that they trust you in spite of things or don't even know what went down. It's eventually made clear that this is all a ploy by loyal - or at least stability-preferring - monetarists to get shit-stirrers like Teledji out of the picture while keeping their hands clean, and both the loyal ones and the other city-states make sure that the braves' character assassination of the scions dies on the vine. You are officially considered innocent by both Gridania and Limsa, as well.

Lunarcon is gay and full of the sort of youtube people I hate piggybacking off JoCat's clout, but I guess it's cool that it blew up like that. Normies are an important part of the MMO ecosystem.

Have you tried PSO2? Their summoner class should feel good for you.
I THOUGHT I did, but the moment you mentioned it having a summoner class I realized you were talking about something else.

I guess what I played before was PSO episode 2? Memory's foggy; I just remember running around as some tiny, pistol-wielding mage that caused massive explosions. ...And regularly being disconnected in the longer dungeons because unofficial server. Still hella fun to solo despite that, though. XD

Either way, I'll check it out. Thanks for the recommend.

I recently decided to follow some new players around on an alt, so I rewatched ARR-HW more or less with a new set of eyes due to knowing everything now. The whole 2.55 ending isn't nearly as I'd say "back peddled" as i thought or as bad to go through in HW now that I don't need to wait 6 months to see where this goes. It is just a complete feint that feels more fitting for say a X.1 > X.2 reveal over a 2.55 > 3.0 reveal due to the huge wait and expectations set by a new expansion. It feels more like this was all one big orchestrated shit show because Teledji is a fucking idiot who goes "I'll just fuck with Lolorito's shit, he'll clearly not interfere now" and "yeah lemme just kill the Sultana and raise up a super weapon, this is a good idea." and getting absolutely owned later when Lolorito effectively planned his death the entire time. Their is a reason Lolorito has more assets in his organization than Teledji, Lolorito is just smarter. Teledji comes off as more like a trust fund baby by comparison considering how much of a dumb shit he is to just taunt Raubahn to his face.

Sure it is all effectively for money and whatever, but I think they focused more on the "Lolorito caused this because Teledji had to go" and not "Actually Namano isn't dead calm down lol" the whole Ul'dah plot wouldn't feel as bad. Ul'dah is also the home of the Alchemists guild, so the idea that Lolorito can just get a "fake death" vial isn't that unrealistic even if it isn't well set up at all. Faked death is still faked death, but I feel it isn't as bad I remembered when I look at the overall context.

So the expected thing has happened where the flood of sprouts have reached endgame for ARR, so the players with actual experience have learned to stay away from the duty roulette to avoid the absolute clown show that is old endgame content

If you wish to dive nose first into the crucible of suck the best one is Trials, that way you can watch them get utterly pantsed by Titan, Leviathan, Ramuh, and Moggle Mog.

I would've figured Titan is the only real retard checker there. Leviathan, Ramuh, and Moggle Mog have all been pretty retard-proofed over the years in my experience.

Hell, you can't even push phases in Ramuh and risk the triggering the damage threshold hard enrage anymore since he just automatically goes Invincible and forces you to kill the arbiters if he's low enough. Same thing with Leviathan too. And the only big thing people need to not fuck up in Leviathan is making sure to press the button before the soft enrage, since the boat never loses its railings in normal mode.

Its a blessing that ARR just forces you to go through the Crystal Tower raids to progress to HW instead of full Coils of Bahamut
It's more to facilitate the progression to Shadowbringers due to story reasons, but I'd almost say that's a curse after watching Baldy run Labyrinth of the Ancients for the first time.

Gave me PTSD flashbacks to running Labyrinth back when it was new/relevant. Just with much less Alliance chat screeching "I DON'T NEED TO LEARN MECHANICS I PLAY THIS GAME FOR FUN DON'T TELL ME HOW TO PLAY THE GAME YOU DON'T PAY MY SUB SORRY I DON'T HAVE A JILLION HOURS TO LEARN NERD SHIT I HAVE A LIFE AND A JOB WTF JUST HURRY UP AND CLEAR AND LET ME DO WHAT I WANT" after wiping 5 times on the first boss and trying to tell people "Just pull the fucking skeletons to the edges of the arena and kill them there, then kill them again before they touch the boss".
