I am leveling my ranged dps jobs and I am falling asleep with the DNC job quests, they are so damn boring, the total opposite of the GNB ones.

Keep in mind that duty roulette queue times for DPS are often longer than healer or tank times, so perhaps it is better to level DPS jobs doing main story quests and level tank/healer via duty roulettes. At the same time you will be spending more time waiting in dungeon queues if you don't plan to do it with NPCs. Either way, it is your choice so do whatever you like.
I don't think the leveling will be a problem if he's already at lvl 60 to unlock Gunbreaker and hasn’t even started HW yet.

I know, I play almost entirely DPS after all. But gonna play tank because Gunbreaker starts with IL255 gear, so I can tear through HW content with that. The rotation looks fun too.

Also I have finally started Heavensward! I also must say, while High Allagan and Crystal Tower gear isn't great in stats, it is baller fashion.

All I can ssy is Alphinaud is a retard who trusted (((Lalafels))) for his own dumb ambitions. His sister is already more competent by virtue of Coils not going horrendously wrong. Speaking of, where the fuck has she been all this time?

Also had to massively suspend my disbelief that the Scions, who just earlier fought dragons at the Gates of Judgement, featuring (You) who eats primals for breakfast (including fucking Bahamut), all collectively job to a group established as a shitter squad (Crystal Braves). It was honestly tough to take seriously with the amount of jobbing and retardation that had to happen, just thinking "I could honestly mince all these dudes no problem" the whole time.

I'm also surprised I'm hitting level 60 already to be honest. I've been juggling Dragoon, Bard, Ninja, Paladin, and Samurai, and still hit 60 on one and nearly 60 on another. EXP gains are fucking insane.
I guess I ought to learn the stress that is Healer at some point, probably via Scholar pipeline (or waiting for AST/Sage to unlock).

Healing, especially with Scholar, is pretty chill on non Savage/Ultimate content. Your fairy will do like 90% of the job for you and you just toss out an occasional oGCD heal when needed. Other than that you mostly just spam one damage spell and keep a single dot rolling.
edit:
Pretty much the biggest fuck up you can do as Scholar is not using the Chain Stratagem correctly.
edit 2:
The biggest grievance I have with Scholar is the weapon. It's just sad when there's a tense scene with a villain and nerd pulls out a book instead of a real weapon to show that shit is about to go down.

Will add to others here, SCH is very chill. Press Whispering Dawn on cooldown and you barely need to heal. Sacred Soil is mitigation every 30 seconds and gets an additional regen later assuming you aren't spending all your job gauge on damage (which you may as well do once you're comfortable). Later on you get Excogitation which you can cast for free every 90 seconds that will automatically heal without you even having to look up from slapping the ground. Those three will carry you through basically every dungeon assuming your tank isn't a shitter.

Is it normal to skip side-quest dialogue? I read the main scenario dialogue but I don't care about some random NPC's life story and how they lost something somewhere
Depends on how attached you are to supplemental lore I suppose. As a lorehead I eat all that shit up. But I also don't blame anyone who skips it since lots of sidequests can be incredibly dull both in content and context.

Honestly healing is kind of cake in this game as compared to other titles. As long as you can pay halfway attention to life bars and are willing to put up with glue eaters who stand in mechanics because 'MuH dEePs' you will be fine. Hell the only issue I personally had when picking up healing in this game during ARR was WHM or SCH and I went with SCH for the flavor, the idea of preventative shield healing, and getting a free dps included via SMN.

Also agree on the CT armor sets. I wore the Scylla Healing Set sans headpiece as a glamour through Heavensward. Loved the colors and the fur look kind of fit in with the cold environments. Also was fun having vets and new players sending me messages ranging from 'why the FUCK are you wearing that shit?' to 'fuck that looks cool. Where'd you get it?' since that seems like a rare occurence for anyone in this game these days unless you have a slutmaxxing female avatar.

I always figured us not going full hog on the Braves and the Ul'dah guards was more of a political move than anything else. Plus at this point our power had been shut down by Middy so being a famed Primal slayer wouldn't mean much since we were back to being just some Adventurer thanks to Dragon Dad.

As for the rest of the group I can only assume its a combination of the afforementioned political implications and having a case of gameplay =/= story strength. So yeah our buds can kick some ass in duties but thats only so they can keep up with you so you aren't doing it all yourself. Plus if you are talking Steps of Faith that used to be a Trial until I think a couple of years ago. Good thing they switched it because I was there when it was fresh and it was so amusing/infuriating seeing the shitters bitching in party chat/forums about how having to do something different than fight a boss in a circle was breaking their brains to the point SE made the whole thing far too easy and braindead to be worth the hassle.

Course I could be misremembering the plot. I'm going through ARR at a snail's pace for the first time in 12 years so I've been finding myself surprised by how much I forgot (and bits I remember but hadn't thought about in a long time).

Completely normal. I've tried giving side quests or even the blue quest line unlocks more attention but I don't have the energy for it. If it's not MSQ then there's a high chance I'll be skipping the cutscenes.

Coming from ESO, every heal is either a smart heal (it goes the lowest health character) or it's a ground aoe. I got a rude awakening when I played healer my first time and assumed it was just as bread dead as it in ESO.

So...I've been on a very long hiatus from FF14 and prepping for Evercold and i really want the glamour from Merchants tale but it seems to be dead content.
Been trying to pop the DF for the past few days and I tried soloing on DRG but I can only get bosses down to about 10% at best on solo. Is there some strategy to soloing variants? I heard they were solo able but does it require WAR?

Did you use your variant(?) skills? The 'variant cure' for Merchant's Tale is 51,000 potency and a regen, for free, instant, on GCD. There is also the 'variant rampart' which gives you a 20% mit for 60s, and a shield on a 15s cooldown.
Frankly I am impressed you managed to die.

If you go in solo as a DPS, be sure to bring the spells "Variant Rampart" and "Variant Cure" to not die during boss fights. Variant Rampart once used gives you a shield and a 20% damage reduction for an entire minute. Variant Cure gives you an instant cast heal and a heal over time. If you use Variant Cure while you still have the heal over time buff, you heal twice or three times as many hit points.

Variant Dungeons are soloable and scale from 1 to 4 players, and allow you to equip a heal, a tank aggro/damage mitigation, or a rez. However, the cosmetic rewards are locked behind Criterion dungeons, which are the hard mode that require four players and do not give you additional spells.

I've never particularly struggled with them? I've solo'd them on classes like RPR and DNC before, they just take forever. I forget the duty action names but there's one that can heal you if that's where you're struggling.
but also trying to get a variant DF queue to pop is unlikely after the first week of launch, PF or dedicated variant dungeon discords will be your best bet if you don't wanna solo them.

That's not entirely correct. There are 2 glamour sets that can be acquired from just doing the normal mode. Then, there is a mount you can only get from advanced difficulty, I think it was the flying carpet. Finally, the djinn mount is only available by doing Criterion. If you are interested in rarely seen accessories, there are some mermaid-themed ones in the rewards of advanced mode as well.

I think they're referring to the glamour pieces you can obtain with the potsherds which do come from the normal version. That's the same with all the other variant dungeons. The only real cosmetic rewards that are locked behind Criterion are the extra mounts, weapons, and accessories iirc

What about the oil that let's you get the sparkly tome weapons from Radz?
