Experiment 27 - This is something I've wanted to write for a long time. There are two characters in this thread: Zh-ero ("the poster") and Rael (a character from the story). So, everyone, let's have some fun while I try to write this thing.

Experiment 27

Chapter 1: Eclipse Protocol

Poster

<0>

All characters are fictional and do not exist in reality.

Attention to all citizens of this great nation:

The safety of everything you hold close to your heart is at risk. Yesterday, Virological Unit Alpha of Gaia Corporation, operating under the direct control of the World Prosperity Union, made a deeply disturbing discovery. A rapidly spreading disease has been released throughout the coastal regions of your country. Due to this horrific act by a still unknown enemy, many of your countrymen have unfortunately met their end while valiantly fighting this terrible disease.

To ensure that this fate does not befall you or others across the world, Stage One of the Eclipse Protocol has been initiated.

Eclipse Protocol Stage One will begin in 48 hours with the widespread euthanasia of all infected life. The protocol will commence 50 km out at sea and converge inward until all life within 50 km of the coastline is dead. For your safety, we urge you to take only the bare essentials and evacuate beyond this zone of euthanasia.

If you are unsure whether you have crossed this invisible line of death, do not worry. Using the very paper of this poster, you will be able to tell. In precisely 24 hours, aircraft carrying a chemical agent will begin spraying the euthanasia zone. This chemical agent has a special reaction with the poster paper, causing it to turn red while exposed to its presence. By observing this reaction, you can determine whether you are still within the euthanasia zone. Remember to continue moving inland until the poster paper reverts to its original white color.

Due to the disease, almost all lines of communication have been severed, and these posters are the most assistance the global community can provide at this time.

Please understand that this decision was made with the heavy hearts of all those involved. From the leaders of other nations who pleaded for alternatives to the very agents tasked with carrying out this protocol, all share the burden of this choice.

I beg of you: help them save what remains of your great country.

A young woman in her twenties stood in the middle of a street, her posture straight and her eyes sharp. Her gaze didn't waver for a second as she scanned the suspicious poster that had fallen from the sky.

To her, this all seemed a little out of place. She hadn't heard any planes when these posters dropped from the sky like a sudden summer shower. There were no infected people or signs of any disease anywhere around her. Yet she lived within the euthanasia zone. If this thing was so bad, how come she wasn't writhing in agony, dying?

Even though it had only been about eight hours since they dropped, the city had already changed beyond recognition. The streets were empty and in disarray as people rushed toward a safe haven that might not even exist. Pictures, food, and phones mixed with shards of glass littered the ground. Shop windows that once proudly glistened had been shattered; the stores they protected now lay looted and abandoned.

"Why do they all believe this?"

And what was this "World Prosperity Union"? Nothing like it had existed until today. And the Alpha Unit of Gaia Corporation seemed just as unreal. Why would someone name their corporation something so cheesy? And why would this World Prosperity Union not just have a regular research team working with them?

Who would work with a corporation that sounded like a military squad, researching a deadly disease that had appeared less than a day ago?

Were these posters really enough to scare people so deeply that they would throw all reason into the river and simply run away? Even the looters, criminals, and scum of society were nowhere to be found. It was like a ghost town.

I guess people are like a flock. "Where most go, the rest follow."

The only thing she knew for certain was that communications were down. Her friend Primo hadn't sent any messages since yesterday. Knowing that scaredy-cat, he would definitely be asking what was going on. He wouldn't abandon her and not call, especially in a situation like this.

This all seemed like a bad joke pulled by a bored child, and yet something unnerved her. The once-pristinely white posters had started to change. Little by little, they began to exert an unspoken warning. The message was subtle but undeniable. She was no longer welcome in the city. The place that had once been her home now belonged to the red papers. Like the sea, they would drown her if she didn't leave.

"Guess this farce isn't a complete joke.”

I prefer Experiment 67.
Rael: It would be preferable to reach a satisfying conclusion in the development of the HEART within Experiment 27. But as a man of science, I wouldn't mind repeating it endlessly until the results satisfy my goal.

I ain't reading shit.

Zh-ero: No problem, it's not a story for everyone. But at this point, you can barely call it a story since it's not even one chapter long yet. I'll be working on that, so I hope you'll give it another shot once it's further along.

Wouldn't that just spread the virus if any humans have been infected?
Rael: A precise observation indeed. While its spread is temporary, the reactions of those caught in such a perilous situation are of great value. Those who survive its initial spread shall prove worthy subjects for further testing.

A more fitting analogy would be a quote from the Old World: "Survival of the fittest," or something along those lines. Please excuse this old memory of mine.

Your not the next backrooms or SCP lil bro
Rael: I vaguely remember such things from the Old World. Yet they evoke a strange sense of familiarity within me, though I cannot quite place why. Thank you for mentioning them. With each passing year, it becomes harder to recall the things I once knew and held dear.

@Speedrunner @Daddy's Little Kitten It's only six paragraphs, you illiterates.
It could be one paragraph and I still wouldn't read it because I don't care about this corny story enough to read it.

What the fuck is this schizophrenic niggerbabble?

I am once again pleading @Null to please ban newfags from being able to create threads for at least 2 weeks
Zh-ero: That's not very nice of you. But thanks for the reply.

Zh-ero: Thanks for the support, Josh. I'm a big fan of the podcast. The only issue I have is that I have to wait 3 or 4 hours for my posts to be approved by a moderator, but I guess that will improve once I'm no longer considered new here.

Edit: Guess i can post immediately now. Seems like @Null is my lucky kiwi :D.

What the fuck is this schizophrenic niggerbabble?
Rael: Hah, you may be right to say that the things I'm trying to accomplish are schizophrenic—that I'm trying to pull the thoughts of my madness into reality, and that such things should have been left there to forever rest, without poisoning the world. And yet, here I am, standing on a road without end, trying to carve out a path I can never walk.

this would suck if it were real.
that aside, i like your story, its pretty good and i hope you post the rest of it soon :semperfidelis:
Rael: There is a fickle line between fiction and reality, as yesterday's fiction often becomes today's horror. Many of those who dreamt of grand things before me would be rolling in their graves to see what their creations caused. Yet, ironically enough, they are deprived of such a right by what they created. How truly ironic.

As for those subjected to Experiment 27, I only wish things could have ended as peacefully for me as they inevitably will for those unfortunate enough not to escape.

The story itself is whatever. RPing as your characters (especially with less than a chapter out) is pretty gay but it's a fair move considering how queer the replies already were.
Zh-ero: True, the story is less than a chapter long, but it's just the beginning of me making it. Hopefully, it won't take too long to finish.

Also, Rael's replies are less RP and more of a way for me to add to the story in a novel way. In this case, it's done by replying to posters who ask him questions. I think this approach can make for a more unique story.

The "interactive" aspect of it doesn't seem all that different from shit like 90s/00s message board CYOA (Choose Your Own Adventure) stories, though I don't know if green reddit has enough patience for a slightly different take on those.

It's not terrible, but it does suck. You've used nearly 800 words on nothing but loredumping and narration.

The second paragraph should be where it starts. All the info in the intro paragraph can be worked into the second, in fewer words. We dont have to know everything. All you've said is that a girl finds papers that will turn red, there is a virus, she has to move inland.

Introducing a character and immediately jumping into weird wordy introspection is also not great. The world is ending and you have not shown a sense of urgency.

Rewrite it.
