I've got to ask from a perspective of someone who hasn't really engaged with playstations that much, would a PS5 be a good purchase (when the price isn't sky high bullshit) for someone who's never owned a playstation?

I mean, obviously that's not why the consumerist bugmen are buying them, but I'm just curious if a PS5 or a PS4 would be a better deal at their retail prices.

In a couple years? Eh maybe a PS5 after the first price cut might be worth it. Hopefully by then it will have some actual shit worth playing that isn't already on PS4.

Yeah, i have a PSVR and while there are some great games for it an awful lot of VR stuff is still basic as fuck or "game you already like but from a first person perspective".

It's a promising format but most devs are so unimaginative now that they do fuck all with it.

It's always sad when a new generation of a console's biggest point of appeal is that it's like a deluxe version of the one that came before it. Except the PS5 is ugly as fucking sin. I'll probably buy one eventually just like I bought my Xbox One - used, for relatively cheap, several years down the line.

My launch-era PS4 is just fine until then.

Video games are an expensive business and they must not have thought it was worth the investment anymore. A lot of Japanese companies either got out or folded with the jump to 4K IIRC

Xbox? None since Game Pass is on Xbox One and PC, and anything good Microsoft makes will be held back by the Xbox One for the next 2 years.

PlayStation? There’s Returnal and Ratchet&Clank if you like sci-fi games. There’s also a remake of Demon’s Souls if you’re a From Software junkie.

For a lot of people it only takes one game to buy into one, but new consoles always take 2-3 years to get a real library of games. I didn’t get a PS3 until it was three years old and $299.
