Anyone notice Danny DeVito in the trailer? He's playing pretty much the same character he played in Big Fish, which was also by Tim Burton. Kinda funny how that works out.

I'm getting pretty annoyed by Disney's recent trend of remaking animated movies into live-action. The movies were animated for a reason, and making them live-action misses the point. But they make shitloads of money so we're going to be seeing them for the next decade or so.

Oh well, at least the original movie still exists.

Tim Burton hasn't been good in forever, and it looks like that opinion won't change anytime soon.
I often wonder how much this might be seen as Burton's own revenge at the studio who turned him down originally in the early 80's when he tried to change things as an up 'n coming upstart (Vincent, Frankenweenie and early design concepts in The Black Cauldron to name a few)?

Burton's desperate for a hit, so he has no time to grind axes. I'm just glad he made Ed Wood when he did.

Indeed, and their legacy continues to this day

The thing about Burton is that apart from his original movies, he's not half bad at ADAPTING films based on existing work. I love his 1989 Batman film and I actually think Sweeney Todd is actually pretty good. It's when he makes a spin on films that have already happened where it all falls downhill. His take on Planet of the Apes, Alice in Wonderland, Willy Wonka, etc. are hackneyed and super disingenuous. You can tell he's interested in creating visuals for them but his spark just isn't there. It's really sad because if he could muster up a real shit to give, I'd bet it would turn out fine. But it's like he gives up midway through and just decides to put in corny Hot topic shit to fill the void.

I don't have much faith in this film. Dumbo looks REALLY wonky and this wasn't a film that needed a remake.

Are you talking shit about Mars Attacks?
Because you better stop, before I go off!
Not talking shit, though I do find it to be wildly uneven. Just reminiscing of a time when it was considered Burton's weakest movie. A time without Planet of the Apes, Alice in Wonderland, Dark Shadows, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Can't wait for a live action rendition of Pink Elephants on Parade
No matter how the rest of the film turns out (unpopular opinion i'm cautiously optimistic for this), the pink elephants are definitely going to be a highlight. That said, there's always the original.
