Dumbest Gaming Moments You've Ever Had - moments when you were a complete idiot

You should go to Hutton Orbital. They give out free Anacondas.

(How many G's was the planet?)

My Elite Dangerous YASD moments are quite similar. I had been on my longest exploration jaunt to date (pre-Engineers) from the bubble in a vaguely eastern direction right out to the galactic rim, or as close as you could get in a 34.9 LY Asp. Scavenged loads of polonium to get there. No problem. Get loads of first scans on earthlikes, rimwards stars, and even a few black holes. Then start trucking back.

About 8,000 LY from Earth I come all up on a lovely system with a big blue sun and loads of chunky metal-rich planets. Like giant cannonballs they were. Aha, I think, I can refill my polonium here! And they have rings! It's about lunchtime and I'm thinking of a nice sandwich and the awesome pix I'll be able to shoot of myself. So I come in fairly steep without paying too much attention.

In retrospect I should have reassessed when the grav meter shows 2.3G just entering orbital cruise and only climbing from there. My Exploration Asp, incidentally, has paper-thin shielding and is totally stripped to get the biggest range I could. I level it out a bit and by the time I drop the grav meter is over 4.5 G. I try to level out but can't, and realise this is probably going to hurt. I face directly up and slam it into full forwards but even that doesn't work; the asthmatic lightweight D-grade thrusters can't handle it. Twenty seconds later I bounce off the planetary surface going into an uncontrollable spin (it was very uneven where I hit), bounce up, and come down and smash to absolute pieces on the rebound.

28,000 LY of scans gone.

I didn't learn from it. About a year later, when multi-crewing is out, I'm over the far side of the galaxy in my Anaconda with a 59 LY range and a friend logs on. He asks to multi-crew over to me because he wants to see what the far side of the galaxy looks like. I oblige and we drop into an icy asteroid belt for beer and selfies and cocking about with the fighter launch.

While trying to get a suitable angle for the selfie I career into an asteroid and explode horribly.

102,000 LY of scans gone.

Planet was whichever planet Felicity's on, I think it's within a G or two of Earth.

Speaking of exploration, though, my buddy apparently jumped all the way out to a Guardian site in a Keelback (or something like that) only to realise he'd totally forgotten to fit an SRV hangar. Not quite so bad, but it took him quite a while.

I have many, many dumb moments. too many to count.

however, here's some that might make others chuckle.

1. Telling a dragon that was trying to give me something no rudely. in shadowrun 5e.

2. spent 2 weeks looking for that mausoleum in tales of symphonia

3. quit chrono trigger for 2 years because i thought you were supposed to kill lavos after time warping.

Spending literal hours searching Shadow Moses looking for Meryl's code and the elusive "CD case" because I didn't realize they meant the actual real-life one.

-Received Super Mario RPG as a gift. Immediately tried jumping on goombas and such. Entered battle mode. WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT?! Proceeded to let it sit for like 3 years until I figured out what RPGs are and it quickly became one of my all-time favorites. (In my defense I was 8 or 9 at the time).

-Believed almost all of the Pokemon rumors and tried most of them no matter how implausible. I had a friend who did some extremely stupid shit trying to do obviously impossible things in that game though, so I don't feel bad.

-Wanted an N64 really bad for some reason when it came out. I was about 11 and sperged about it nonstop. Begged for it and got... a PS1 instead. Dad (who always had zero interest in gaming) out of nowhere said something along the lines of "N64 is some dumbass shit. This is better. You'll see." He was right.

The first time I played it was a rental so I didn't even have a CD case. That was some bullshit, thank god the internet was around or I never would have figured it out.

I sincerely regret playing mostly licensed games as a kid. I could’ve been playing Ratchet and Clank or Sky Cooper, but instead I was playing Chicken Little, Stitch: Experiment 626 and Happy Feet ( The SpongeBob Movie game and Madagascar were alright, though).

Tried playing the original Rome: Total War on "very hard" settings with respect to both campaign and battle difficulty.

Some tiny rebel armies of garbage-tier units spawned around my settlements early on. But the units had ridiculous amounts of experience chevrons (as units in the game gain experience, they get improved stats). I engaged one of these rebel armies with a much larger army of better, but less experienced, units.

In the battle, I isolated an enemy unit of peasants (easily the worst unit in the game in terms of base stats), surrounded it, and had seven different cavalry units charge it at once from different sides (normally flanking or surrounding an enemy unit confers overwhelming morale penalties on it).

That one unit of peasants routed all seven cavalry units...

When I first played Sonic 2 I got stuck on Chemical Plant for like, weeks because I got to a point where you're supposed to double back and jump up onto a platform that I kept missing. also those fucking red and white moving platforms in Carnival Night in Sonic 3 foxed me for a little while.

I once confused a bottle of nail polish remover (acetone) with alcohol and destroyed a game disc with it when I was in elementary school

When I received a bunch of used N64 games towards the end of its cycle, played Ocarina of Time for like 10 minutes and never picked it up again. I think I would have enjoyed it if I gave it a chance. Was more of a Mario/Goldeneye kid.

Also getting a DS and PSP in their first years was pretty stupid.

I had a DS with a Flash Cart. Had started getting constant freeze like if you had pulled the DS cart out. Even when I wasn't touching the DS. (Was farming mastery in Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia and came to it and it had hung)

So I eventually trew the DS out but kept the flash cart. Only to notice later I was getting the same problems on a 3DS, it was the flash cart that was breaking :P Threw out the DS for nothing!

This is little me here, so laugh at him:

I played Treasure Mathstorm as a child; a game anyone with mild intelligence can beat in under 10 minutes in full.... for dozens of HOURS total, if not more.
Every single day, grinding because I simply couldn't figure out how to actually beat it.

How I ever became even a casual gamer is beyond me.

In Pink Panther's Passport to Peril, I got stuck on the Stonehenge sequence where the bad dogs stole Pink's normal suit and the sun rose.

Eventually figured out that distracting them THEN using the mirror was the right set of actions.

I remember sperging the fuck out when I played Sonic 3. Carnival level where you Jump on the platform that goes up and down and you having to make it go all the way up jump down and run under it. I used to get stuck in that area until time ran out.
You're just supposed to press up and down.

When I played the original Spyro I had no idea that jumping while charging would increase your speed. While you could get through most of the game without knowing this it made beating the final boss impossible and after many attempts I eventually gave up.

I was playing Red Dead Redemption, and was atracked by wolves on the road. While fighting them one ran in right in front of me, and...I shoot my horse in the back of the head killing it instantly. I manage to survive the fall, and kill the wolves. Unfortunately the horse was one I had caught so I didn't have a deed. I ended up having a nice long walk until I found someone who I could murder for their horse.

Is this in RDR2? Because you can whistle for a new horse in the first game if yours dies. It won't be the same horse, but still.

No it was years ago. I thought you had to have a deed to get a horse to come back after yours died. Hell maybe I just had to walk far enough to let me spawn one by whistling. I've been very careful with my horses in RDR2 because of this incident lol.

Right now it's forcing myself to play X7 15 years after I last saw my brother finish the game just because I finished X1-X6 on Mega Man X Legacy collection
