XI was a shit game and XII is likely going to be shittier. I gave the reasons.
And you went on a feces-flinging tantrum about a bunch of wishcasting bullshit about DLC because you’re a histrionic rent boy.

If you think XI was a shit game because of optional features an intelligent human being could easily turn off, you’re retarded.

If you played the S version, you’re an even bigger faggot, because the original release was great.

Ah, so you’re just a histrionic faggot. Got it.
Pot calling the kettle black?

For example, I guess the Square Enix JP leadership expressed shock that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 did so well despite being turn based, because apparently they were told that Americans won't buy turn based games anymore.
So, are the Japs genuinely this blind? Because a lot of shit can be resolved by having someone just keep tabs on what's trending on YouTube or Steam.

There was also that TGS 2024 interview with Horii where he mentioned offhand that Americans apparently don't use the term Male or Female anymore cause they're offensive
Well technically, he's right. It's just that these execs should be able to gauge exactly what the cultural standards are instead of just going for the most "polite" version of it.

But from what I've seen, XI really can't stop with the handholding. Even when the second act is almost over.

I have no idea what wishcasting means or what rent boys are. I'm a simple man. I just want something simple like Dragon Warrior IV again. It's weird how everyone accuses the DQ series of being the same each iteration but it's not.

How do you turn off pink speech bubbles? How do you turn off the minimap? How do you turn off the gratuitous healing? Am I supposed to just ignore treasure chests? Am I supposed to not steal at all? Ignore the Fun Forge which was a piss poor replacement for alchemy (itself an unnecessary mechanic but better balanced on PS2's VIII)? Do I just ignore the endless recycling of monster designs and palette swaps? I just ignore quite literally my favorite monster (Trolls) getting butchered for fake racism claims? (Durran is a close second)

Do you know of any way I can turn on random encounters besides playing in 2D mode for the S version? I didn't like that version because the story elements should've been in the first release, it didn't come with the 3DS version (still not translated), the 2D mode was still modern and faux-retro with a widescreen aspect ratio, and the worst of all: they removed the crossbow minigame for no reason whatsoever.

I swear it seems like every other month that Japan studios "discover" the shit that goes on with localization.
I mean, I've joked for years that Japanese companies view the International Market more as bonus points, considering Japan's demographic problems ie. aging population, it could just be these studios are finally actually looking at their localizations and are all going "what the fuck is this?"

They'll only care if the important guys care. Guys like Yuji Hori, who allegedly nearly burned down Enix over the name of a horse, surely wouldn't have any issues with the way DQ has been localized for some time now.

I know, it just seems like every month or two I see people say how the Japanese are finally realizing what English localizers are doing to their properties...and then nothing comes of it.

The only mystery is why the Japanese audience buys boring hyper-generic modern JRPG shit. The West apparently didn't know either. E33's whole niche was realising you could be not-Japanese and make one and also simply make it not incredibly boring by not going out of your way to ape the shit-vortex of anime trends.

That's at least one level of insight beyond executives spending their free time doing the foreign market research they think they're paying someone else to do.

Well, my theory is that Japanese culture values conformity and occasionally punishes people from being too innovative. Sure, their media might says otherwise, but...

Bear in mind that this is over 15 years old and a good chunk of it actually applies to Dragon Quest XI

Is this a character from previous DQ titles? Forgive my ignorance but as I mentioned above I am new to DQ

For those who missed it, a surprise announcement in the Direct yesterday and the release date is 3rd December 2026
Yes, in Dragon Quest 5, there were originally two girls your character could choose between at the midpoint, Bianca and Flora. In the DS remake, Flora's spoiled rotten "gal" sister, Deborah, was made an option. That's her.

The main characters of DQM4 (Kingdom of Dead Trees / Withered World) are Bianca (Rural Tomboy) and Flora (Rich Princess / "Ideal Housewife" type) as kids.

Bianca (Rural Tomboy), Flora (Rich Merchant Daughter), Deborah (Spoiled Valley Girl Tsundere) is a debate that has followed the series ever since DQ5 was released, akin to Rei vs Asuka.

It doesn’t work when there’s one correct answer. Nothing wrong with Flora, and Deborah is great, but Bianca’s the canon option.

IIRC they at least give her a plan B in the remakes, where some other male friend of hers steps up.
That I was not aware of.

I do find it amusing how three Dragon Quest games allow the player to romance a childhood friend...or snub her and go for someone the Hero met on his journey and barely knows. Three times is too many times for a coincidence. My schizo theory is someone involved in these games has a very specific cuck fetish.
