A lot of (most?) of the music on Doctor Who from the 1970s, including the Mind Of Evil, is due to Dudley Simpson. His music as a defining feature of the Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker eras (at least Baker pre-JNT). Dudley Simpson's music is quite distinct. JNT stopped using Dudley Simpson when he took over in 1980, and the change is pretty abrupt.

The music in The Seeds of Doom (1976) is quite good. I assumed it was Dudley Simpson, but apparently was Geoffrey Burgon.

I cant give you specifics but i remember the music being pretty good for most part of the disney seasons. I'd assume the shitty Political song is bad because he was uninterested in it, Dugga Doo that he made for the episode for himself because he wanted to is a banger.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=rdzThMp5lso

In an era with no shortage of musical moments, there was, just off the top of my head:
  • The Goblin song
  • Musical number that was planned and ultimately cut from Space Babies (God knows how awful that would have been)
  • 'My Dog'
  • 'There's Always a Twist at the End'
  • 'I'm Mr Ring-a-Ding'
  • Eurovision episode with genocide survivor song
And the fucking joke character stole the show from all of them, yet somehow he didn't even win Space-Eurovision because the votes are political and the talent doesn't matter, just like the real one.

Dugga Doo and all the meme edits people have made of it, is easily the best thing to come out of RTD2.

I still come back every once in a while to watch Dugga Doo take Clara's place in the Doctor's timestream:

Even the much maligned 'There's Always a Twist at the End' becomes an actual banger with Dugga Doo's meme magic:

I am not the kind of fan who buys Doctor Who merch. What little merch I own I've mostly received as gifts. But I would buy the fuck out of a Dugga Doo plush, as long as they don't cheap out on materials. His fur just looks so soft and fluffy.

If he doesn't get a starring role in the Cbeebies spin-off, what the fuck are the BBC even doing?

Press Release

BBC and Paramount+ today jointly announced the series order for Gallifreyan Academy, a new Doctor Who spin-off set to expand the beloved franchise with a fresh, accessible perspective for a new generation.

The series will follow a diverse young class of Gallifreyans as they train at the prestigious Gallifreyan Academy, offering audiences an intimate, emotionally driven look at the formative years of the Doctor and other iconic Time Persons in this Doctor Who spin-off. The co-production between BBC and Paramount+ will see production scheduled to begin later this year.

Gallifreyan Academy centers on the young female-presenting Doctor long before her travels in the TARDIS, as she navigates life alongside fellow students including the Master, a deeply misunderstood and complex figure whose brilliance is often overshadowed by fear of their potential, and the Rani, a genius whose groundbreaking ideas have long been dismissed by the rigid structures of the patriarchal Gallifreyan society.

Together, this gang of misfits will attend classes, form deep friendships and explosive rivalries, experience awkward first regenerations and personal discoveries, explore first loves and identity, and confront a mysterious new threat that challenges both the Academy and the foundations of Gallifreyan society itself.

The show promises to delve deeply into the Doctor’s previously mysterious origins with rich new detail never seen before, finally offering definitive answers about the Doctor’s early life. Showrunner and executive producer Alex Kurtzman said in a statement
“I’m thrilled to welcome viewers into the halls of Gallifreyan Academy. This is an opportunity to experience the Doctor in a completely new way, as a young woman discovering her path, her powers, and her place in the universe. Our series will explore the early days of these legendary characters with heartfelt emotion and modern relevance, reintroducing them for today’s audience while honoring the rich history of the Whoniverse in exciting new ways. The adventures will blend epic temporal concepts with deeply personal stakes, the relationships will be heartfelt and complex, and the growth of our cadets, including learning to embrace misunderstood brilliance and overlooked voices, will be truly inspiring.”

Executive producer Russell T. Davies said: “I’ve had the pleasure of meeting with Alex Kurtzman and I trust his judgment thoroughly. His bold vision and storytelling on Star Trek have been a huge inspiration to me. Have you seen Star Trek: Starfleet Academy? Marvellous! It’s exciting to see him bring that same fresh energy and modern relevance to the Doctor Who universe. This spin-off is in the very best hands. A Paramount+ spokesperson added: “Gallifreyan Academy represents the next exciting chapter for the Doctor Who franchise. It’s designed to be accessible, emotionally resonant, and full of fresh energy for both longtime fans and entirely new viewers alike, especially a broad, youthful audience discovering the Whoniverse for the first time. We’re confident this series will connect on a personal level while celebrating everything that makes Doctor Who special.

With a blend of coming-of-age storytelling, dynamic character relationships, high-concept science fiction, and plenty of heart, Gallifreyan Academy aims to deliver meaningful personal growth, imaginative temporal adventures, and a bold evolution of the Doctor Who franchise on Paramount+

‘How often I’m called a paedophile online is shocking’: inside Russell T Davies’s horrifying drama about rising hatred
Archive
“This isn’t exclusively a gay problem,” says Davies, “but nonetheless we’re an easy focus for it. Whatever this anger is, we’re a target. The amount of times online I’m called a groomer and a paedophile [for his support of trans rights] is shocking and maybe actionable, except I think if I took action, I’d make it even worse.”
Yes, I'm sure the reason for that is his support for trans rights, and not the age of his partner.

So current rumor time!

The Christmas 2026 special now is in serious jeopardy of being cancelled before filming even starts, because the BBC can't find anyone* to take over the role of Doctor Who given the shit show the shows become.

*Additional rumor is they part of the issue is they the BBC is still banning the casting of a white male in the role and only allowing minorities and women to be approached by RTD, who in turn is still trying to get Piper to commit to a full season as RTD doesn't want to go out in disgrace and wants one more season with a white female Doctor to try and salvage shit.

I'm genuinely shocked the women and minorities in question have enough restraint to not want to get involved in this shitshow, usually when it comes to destroying things white men love all logic and consequences go out the window.

They really don't though, those kind of people only care about what the role can give them and Dr who is a dead brand, they wont get anything from the show itself and they especially wont get anything from being the 4th female doctor or 3rd poc doctor. If the show somehow returns to to prominence then you'll see the vultures circle again.

What a strange article.

His neighbour, who he gave a key to his house to and is called 'kind', let themselves in without knocking once and this shows how dangerous it is to be underprivileged?

He has written a self-insert that is complaining he can no longer "ta-da" on entry to a room and become the centre of attention and is maybe expected to behave like a normal person?

[On gay men] "And now they’ve seen us, and now I think that anger and that violence is on the rise. So what the fuck does that say?”. You tell me Russell, what the fuck does it say?

The actually brave choice would have been casting an Irishman for the Doctor. Make him a tinker even.

There's still good iconic choices for the doctor. Hugh Laurie would make a great doctor and would be a breath of fresh air to have a doctor that's a hughge asshole. Rowan Atkinson actually a pretty solid choice as well. If they absolutely MUST go with a non englishman, Idris Elba would suffice in a pinch.

What's sad is that immediately after capaldi they had enough prestige that they could actually reasonably score any of these three.

It seems like half of Americans claim to be part Irish around St Patrick's day; downplay the thieving and roofing scams and play up the friendly mischievous scampness and you'd have had a good starting point for a Doctor for the Disney series reboot, instead of however the fuck Gatwa was supposed to be appealing to the US.

My youtube suggestions for some reason have been popping up Dr Who content recently and every one of the commentators has terror in their eyes as they repeat how Whittaker and Gatwa are "really good actors" that were "let down by the writing", and then carefully forget they gushed about how other Doctors elevated the absolute garbage they were sometimes given and that even when the writing was trash it was a treat to watch the Doctor and the companions interact.

So with no new Doctor Who on the horizon I've been rewatching/catching up on old episodes of previous seasons. One thing that occurred to me is has any decent Whovian fan ever compared how eerily similar that JNT and RTD are? Fat gay men, used Dr. Who to chase boys, "saved" Dr. Who only to get it canceled because of their excesses, at first used nostalgia to bring fans back with previous lore only to shit on the canon, etc etc? Like cmon if a filthy casual to Dr. Who like me can fucking see this what about all the autistic fags who are Whovians out there? Are you telling me Mr. Tardis and his sperging ilk can't see history repeating itself here?

LOL, wtf is this shit? LOLOL

Edit to add: Apparently it's a gussied up collection of previously published audio dramas with the null doctor. Times must be tough.
She's getting a comic mini series and another Big Finish audio episodes. Oh and online multimedia whatever that means maybe an animation who knows? That said Dr. Who is so dead but hey let's just waste more money on a gawdawful actress (yes she's even fucking worse than Whitaker and Gatwa if that can be believed) who you can tell has no love of Dr. Who and is only doing it for the paycheck. It'd be totally ironic if Dr. Who really did completely die and one of her shit audio episodes was the last thing made before they tried anything Who years later.

If they were going for stunt casting of a big name actor, they'd just pay Hugh Grant a king's ransom and be done with it. Hugh's been the big great white whale dream casting for the BBC in regards to getting a famous a-list British actor and it's also been a running joke that Hugh has repeatedly turned them down.

Also, I'm shocked that the producers haven't tried grabbing one of the male actors from Downton Abbey to play the Doctor. Or even the actress who played Mary, if they insist on a female actress.

Idris Elba would suffice in a pinch.
They probably can't afford Idris now, but since he's kind of the poor man's Idris Elba they should hit up Chiwetel Ejiofor. I watched Backrooms the other day and he can still act.

Or Olivia Coleman if they want a woman. She's cool.

But leaving it dead for 10 years is the smarter choice, I'm still catching up on the wurzel years.
