🐮 Lolcow Doug Jackson / SV Seeker - Boomer hubris personified, an incompetent lunatic's dreams slowly crumbling to dust because of his own poor decisions.

He cast his own zinc anodes out of aluminum?
Does he make his own toilet paper too?
Zinc anodes are literal throw away items.
A full set for that floating turd might have cost $100.
Of all the things to gamble on backyard chemistry with.

"If I get it right I "save" a 100 bucks and kill a day and a cylinder of propane, if I get it wrong my boat falls apart. Sounds like a fair trade to me! I will get started after I take all the guards off all my power tools, pull the batteries from my smoke detectors and cut the emergency brake cables on all my vehicles. Feel the fear and do it anyway!"

This is the most Doug brained think ever.

He probably "saves" money by using Saran wrap instead of condoms.

Every part of the Seeker, in isolation, is a really cool project. A challenge to see if you can do something. Can I cast my own propeller? Can I use a schoolbus motor in a boat? Will PEX work with diesel?

No reasonable person would think that each of these would succeed, or that the result would be suitable for daily use. It would be neat to figure out how to make an anode, but to think you could make one on the first try is why he has a thread.

Yeah when I was in the navy, we checked our zinc pucks on a monthly basis and if any of them were not corroding, we freaked the fuck out in the engine room. We were already losing tons of steel every deployment due to corrosion and if the anodes were not working, we could have a sudden, catestrophic failure.

I've seen massive heat exchangers fail in less than 3 months because some asshole was blazing their PM logs.

The more I learn about this guy, the more I am amazed he hasn't drowned along with a bunch of hapless other people.

14ga copper wire will fail within 6 hours when it gets wet and DC current is applied. Shit's crazy.

I can't wait for the inevitable electrical gremlin saga, provided the boat stays intact
Yeah water and electricity is fun. I have to do water cooled medium voltage drives all the time. I'm constantly arguing with customers that the water going through a 4160V power cell has to be ungodly clean and without any ions.

And I get Doug like fuckers all the time complaining about conductivity faults can't just be overridden.

Let them and then tell them they asked for it when the motor eats itself.

The zincs still have sharp corners, that's how little they've eroded.

I really do wonder how the story of the Seeker will end. We all know that something catastrophic will happen at some point, there's no 'if', just a matter of when.

Will Doug be able to limp it into a port? Will the Coast Guard need to rescue him from his sinking scrap boat?

Personally I think Seeker will just vanish one day. Between the list, the warped hull and Doug's ineptitude I think it will just disappear on one of these voyages without so much as a mayday being broadcast.
