It's more of a belief, not definite "knowledge". It seems to make intuitive sense that the universe is so big, there has to be life somewhere else, but we don't definitely know how life arises and what the probability of it is. There really are no statistics about this, just a sample size of one (as all life on Earth has a common ancestor).It's relatively common knowledge that the universe is too large for there not to be life out there somewhere else.
Trump, however, seems to think that the size of the universe and how statistics work is... classified?
