And that's why photography in that section is not allowed. Other families cannot give permission to be used in campaign photos. Even the family of the soldier buried under the other tombstone in the wider shot hasn't given permission to be used, even unwittingly, in a campaign photo.

It's an invasion of privacy at best, and disrespectful to the bereaved.

Everyone always says "if it were the other party everyone would care" but for any other candidate at any point in the last 30-50 years had done this, it would immediately cost them the election. The one thing that came to my mind was how when the withdrawal was happening, folks were actually cheering the gains the Taliban were making because it meant “the woke American empire was getting its ass kicked and was going to have a lot of egg on its face.” (And then that’s not getting into the social laws that would be put into place later.)

Let’s be honest, all presidents are politicians first and foremost. Any photo op at Arlington National Cemetery is always going to go a long way to show the optics of serious, solemn reflection and respect for the men and women who fought for this country that are buried within the grounds.

With that said, take a look at a very quick search of recent presidents at the headstones within Arlington National Cemetery. *** I couldn’t find any of George W. Bush standing alongside the headstones.

For fairness, I included two of Trump, one showing him paying respects to a soldier, the other is the goofy campaign ad photo that is truly distasteful. If Tim Walz of Kamala Harris did this, the Magatards would be going on a tear right now and it would already be in a campaign ad video shitting on how distasteful this is. Compound that with they weren’t permitted to do this in the first place in that area of the grounds.

I haven’t found any photos of presidents from Bush 41-Biden who are using Arlington headstones in a campaign fund raising photo op. It is pretty shitty, honestly. Trump is a sleaze bag.

I find it interesting that in the other photos it seems the names on the tombstones are purposefully obscured, which makes sense in paying respects and not inadvertently including a name in a place it didn’t consent to be. Trump’s basically highlighting the names because he chose these specific dead soldiers to make a political point.
