I grew up fairly poor so our Disney collection was usually whatever VHS (even in the dvd days) we could find at good will. Lots of the older classics like Snow White, Cinderella, Fantasia and stuff, but I had more of the Disney sequels than the renaissance era originals.

Now I have kids and I showed them basically everything until Luca. I genuinely liked Luca, my kids really like it, I can see where someone would get the idea that it’s a couple of gay kids but I think a lot of that is actually on tumblr retards who don’t know what boy friendship is like.

But holy fuck do I hate the Elemental movie. Ember is supposed to be a sympathetic character because she’s an immigrant? She’s massively racist to everyone around her and fails to adjust to either her family’s cultural roots or the society she was literally raised in.

Her inspiration to leave for a bigger city to be an architect makes very little sense when it’s shown that the glass she makes, that she was told to use for her brand-new, never before inclined architect dreams, is structurally connected to her emotional state (so if she makes a building with her glass, one bad day and it shatters?).

It just seems so shallow and selfish for a story about immigrants and supposedly valuing your parents culture to end with you destroying their dreams of continuity by abandoning their shop for a ‘dream’ you had been introduced to literally days/hours before.

It all just reads as some brown woman’s self-insert as she wants to ignore her family’s roots to be a big name in an industry she doesn’t fully understand, and wants people to roll over for her because she’s brave and different arrogant and racist.

Sorry for the rant, haven’t watched anything from Disney since aside from pirating the older classics since the console we used for a dvd player kind of died.

We just moved and don’t have proper internet for the time being, and we haven’t been able to stream any movies at all for a while, and my kids aren’t asking to watch any Disney movie, they’ve been wanting to watch the Ghibli collection and Prince of Egypt (dreamworks)

The creator was a fag, made the character a fag, and disney told them no that was too much. When disney stopped caring about Luca the creators went right back to saying they were fags.

Its blatant child groomer propaganda.

Luca's alright, took a bit to get into because it's so much more relaxed than your average Disney flick. Proper slice of life stuff even with all the fantastical elements.

Elemental was a low-effort copy of Zootopia, worse at everything. It didn't even have a proper villain, other than the city's managers being so lazy/incompetent as to poorly construct the different districts that literally fall apart. Meanwhile, Zootopia made a good effort to explain why every species had to live on its own area and nowhere else.

It got worse with movies like Live Action Pinocho.

Fags can't stop from adding gay shit into works for children, then they wonder why they're increasingly disliked.

The Korean-American director based it off his own experiences, apparently. Guess he married a racist, and his (second) film bombed anyway. Lol.

The slop trough is Disney-branded; and that's expected to be enough.

Snow White was more an exception that proved the rule. I guarantee you, if they cast a more conventionally attractive actress for Snow White, kept the story pretty much the same, and told the actress to shut her goddamn mouth, it would've been another billion-dollar grossing film.

The only one of those modern adaptations that was in any way decent was Cinderella imo.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but it's so blackpilling to see people mass-consume shit that's objectively worse than the original property in terms of actual artistic merit. I guess they're just "normie autistic" in the sense that they're hyper-fixated on live action (or "live action") being a more prestigious medium than traditional animation for no real reason? Incredibly obnoxious.

This is why I expose my godchildren to classic cartoons such as Popeye, Scooby Doo and Gumby instead. Subjecting children to modern soulless slop is bad parenting.

you're learning an essential lesson of life: the majority of people are niggercattle. People like you and me are the minority.

I think the problem is that the West for some reason has never gotten over the idea that 2D animation is for kids, and they want to look “mature”. I’m not sure why it still lingers, but I hear it’s from a combination of things from decades ago. Mass censorship/The Hayes Code, Hannah Barbara putting out a bunch of cheap cartoons, the “toy commercial” cartoons…

Is there something where younger people today won't watch traditional animation? I don't know specifically, but younger relatives of mine seem to just reject instantly anything that appears "old media."

I could imagine parents trying to get their kids to watch Aladdin and them just not being interested because it's "hand drawn." Yet getting them to see a CGI live action remake of Disney films won't get that reaction.

I think that’s dependant on what the kids grew up on, and there is something to be said for age ranges too.

If all they’ve watched growing up was new media, they might be put off from the look of older media or sort of judge the movie by the poster sort of thing.

I think in that case, you almost need to get the kid watching on the premise first (if they love dogs, easy lady and the tramp or Dalmations sort of thing) just to widen their horizons a bit.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is a guilty pleasure of mine. Probably was a sign of things to come especially when it came to how female protagonists were to be written, but I didn't think it was terribly done.

I still don't get how all the eye gouging was okay for a PG rating, though.

What about the sequel? I liked it well enough when I watched it in theaters, but looking back I don’t think it’s held up very well.

I went to Disneyland yesterday, it was packed due to Grad Nite but it wasn't as bad previous visits due to California-exclusive tickets being locked out as of May 21st (The SoCal-exclusive Imagine Key is locked out of the park come next week). As far as pin trading was concerned people were still carrying pinfolios but they weren't the monster sizes you'd see in Frontierland. They were either handheld pinfolios or one-foot sized pinfolios with a removable shoulder strap. Cast Members were also hawkish in making sure trading was done away from chairs and tables. They unfortunately didn't have the Sam Eagle popcorn bucket, apparently it's been delayed to being released later in the summer.

I also talked to some Cast Members about upgrading my current Enchant Key to the new Explore Key and I'll do it next week after I'm done with Pin Drop Tuesday, I was slightly worried about it affecting future park reservations and monthly payments but the former becomes less of a problem if you only have one day reserved and upgrading doesn't increase the latter.
They fucked it up badly. Allegedly the bearing that supported the 3 Dreamfinder blimps (which the ride cars rotated around as the set rotated like a merry-go-round) wore out and they decided to cut out that part of the ride then retool it.
Why they didn't replace the bearing, which seemed to have been a replaceable part that one would expect to be a consumable?
When it comes to changes in ride operations they are usually done to lower maintenance costs, usually due to certain parts no longer being manufactured. I know that a lot of the older rides need to have replacement parts custom-made. The only exception to this is DL's Peoplemover, that ride can't be fixed unless they shut down Tomorrowland in its entirety and bring up the entire land to code.

The problem with Elemental is that it's from a perspective of a second-generation immigrant, if you want a good animated film about immigrants then you should watch Don Bluth's An American Tale.

Oh my God I forgot how stupid that movie was.

It tries to intertwine the back stories of the Mad Hatter and the Red Queen by having the Hatter laugh at her when a crown doesn't fit her giant head at her coronation. His dad made the crown because he's not just a weirdo with a hat he's from a long line of hat makers.

So the queen has a freakishly large head she is very sensitive about (it's all her sister's fault of course). Imagine you are tasked with making her a crown. Do you

1. Measure her stupid head because it's a custom made crown commissioned for a specific person and she's royalty and should be used to having things tailored anyway so you can't even say she's so sensitive she doesn't want it done because it should be standard procedure for everything she owns?

Or

2. Eye ball it?

If you chose either answer you are way too smart for this movie because the Mad Hatter's father not only doesn't measure her he didn't even eyeball it because it's clearly a normal size and anyone with functioning eyes could tell it wasn't gonna fit!

This humiliates her so badly it drives her over the edge into full crazy.

It's been years since I watched it but this was so stupid it still bothers me.
