Disney Developing 'The Lion King' Remake

I had a legit debate with a co-worker today because they're planning on seeing this lifeless turkey on Friday. It was all friendly but I basically asked why they want to spend 20 bucks on what they basically could watch for free in the original film. They didn't have a legit answer. When I explained that it's all Disney's way of manipulating them with nostalgia for a quick buck, they didn't get it. It's the thing they recognize so it HAS to be good by default!

...I miss Eisner. The guy made a LOT of bad choices but there was still room for risks. There was still SOME creative output. Even the shitty direct-to-DVD sequels had some modicum of distinction to them, regardless of how awful they were. They at least continued or added to their source materials, albeit in god-awful ways.

Iger is all money and no imagination. The guy knows how to run the ponyshow but he's creatively bankrupt. That's why Disney sucks so hard now. That's why Walt's vision feels so betrayed.

One of the biggest complaints about Eisner towards the end of his run was that he transformed Disney into a monomaniacal corporation. The company back then almost looks like a charming startup thanks to Iger's position of mass acquisition

Almost everything Disney touches now is interesting in how it makes people remember their shitty movies and practices 20 years ago in a better light, because no matter how bad things might be they can always get worse.

See also, their handling of Star Wars, which is making people miss Lucas despite his mishandling of the prequels and how he'd been raked over the coals for that.

Yeah, I guess that's true, Disney was just about in the toilet in 2003/2004.

I would say his biggest fuck up was closing the 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Ride, which was like, only the coolest damn ride they ever built.

Seeing that scream and falling lion gave me vivid flashbacks of countless B movies with with people going over a the edge of a rooftop or balcony or fire escape railing and suddenly turning into mannequins falling down from buildings. All that scene needs is something, like if there was a bazooka dude from some low-budget 80s Miami Connection-tier action film to shoot that lion midair, to be complete.
