Some of the reviews I read were pretty scathing. The words "uncanny valley" and "soulless" were used multiple times. Most of what I read unanimously agreed that blank lion expressions and realistic lion movements made everything a lot more boring and unemotional, which is what I knew would happen.

Fuck, Aslan and the tiger from Life of Pi proved that you CAN make a CG big cat expressive while keeping the movements pretty realistic. Why couldn't they do it here?
Disney is not known for making intelligent decisions that aren't fueled by monetary gain.

I mean, even the Jungle Book remake had more expressive animals from the same animation team. Why go back on that?

I had no idea Bob Iger was a 14-year-old gamer in 2006 who thinks a game looks better because it's brown and "realistic".

I feel like the only good Disney remake was the Jungle Book. That's because I found the original to be pretty boring however. As a movie it's still mediocre.
The only one I've managed to enjoy was Pete's Dragon, if only because it tries something new. I also saw it at the tail end of a 13-hour flight, so ymmv if exhaustion played a part.

The only remakes that are ever good are ones that simply borrow the premise and go in a completely different direction.

Take The Thing and The Fly for example, the gold standard of remakes and literally all they did was borrow the same basic premise, they're completely different movies.

Even the best of all those 2000s remakes did the same thing, Dawn of The Dead, which was just the same basic premise of "people hide from zombies in a mall" and did it completely differently than the original film.

Hell, the Planet of the Apes remake-trilogy took the basic concept of the original movies and turned into a hell of a character study for Andy Serkis to work his magic.

Remakes aren't hard as long as they have vision and passion.

Shit, the Suspiria remake turned a 90-minute candy-colored giallo movie into a washed-out 2 1/2 hour long art horror movie while still largely following the broad outline of the original.

Too bad new things scare people.

Predictions

- If Timon and Pumbaa are not outright made to be a gay couple, there will at least be some kind of joke about "two guys raising a kid?!?!"

- Nala will be a Strong Independent Woman Who Don't Need No Man and much will be made of her Stunning and Brave journey to find help

- The scene from the musical where Scar tries to take Nala for a wife will be included so Disney can make a #MeToo commentary

- The hyenas being kept out of the kingdom will be compared to the issues at the border

i don't like this movie about lions

EXCUSE ME I THINK I HEARD SOMEONE DIDNT LIKE BLACKS AND WAMMINZ
WAIT WHY DID TRUMP GET A SECOND TERM?

What bugs me is that she reported him for stating his opinion on a fucking Disney movie. I get it, it's Twitter, and they'll kick you off for wrongthink, but over a stupid Disney movie? Come the fuck on.

Disney is upping the shilling its shills need to do to get a paycheck.
