On a whim I checked the movie's Wikipedia page.

Note the "strong criticism for being derivative of the original film." Like, no fucking shit, it's a remake.

Bullshit I refuse to believe that fucking Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner are the best part of the film. Eichner can suck a dick and Seth looks like my shitty ex

Clearly you are sexually attracted to Seth Rohan, sub conscious or otherwise, if you willingly made the choice to purposely choose someone who looks like Seth Rogan to date.

Jellycar and Seth Rogan sitting in a tree, K I S S I N G !!!!!!!!!!!

This lion was animated in 2005 and has way more emotion and presence than whatever this was.

They should remake the Lion King and other Disney cartoon films but in the style of those Soviet animations where everything looks like a depressing oil painting and has the soundscape of a David Lynch movie.

I like how the remake's unable to step out of the shadow of the original despite being the same story. It's almost as if people are more forgiving toward traditional Disney animated movies than their live-action "realistic" films. :story:

Its not even being forgiving about the original. The original Lion King is one of the most colorful and visually distinctive animated movies of that era. For the remake, they removed all those critical design decisions and replaced them with... nothing.

Look how the design scheme changes when Simba starts the song. Its like they said, "this looks good, but how can we make it look even better?"

edit: just noticed Simba pops his claws when he climbs the log. Such a cute little detail.

Some of the reviews I read were pretty scathing. The words "uncanny valley" and "soulless" were used multiple times. Most of what I read unanimously agreed that blank lion expressions and realistic lion movements made everything a lot more boring and unemotional, which is what I knew would happen.

Fuck, Aslan and the tiger from Life of Pi proved that you CAN make a CG big cat expressive while keeping the movements pretty realistic. Why couldn't they do it here?

Aladdin was also derided for being an unimaginative shot for shot remake.

Like RumblyTumbly said these movies are the Transformers/Twilight of the 2010s/20s thanks to China but it's heartening to see critics starting to frost on Disney.

I could have sworn a live action remake ("live" meaning cgi lions) happened like four years ago.
Or have they really been pushing this for that long?
