Discord single-handedly ruined gatekept communities. No more logging in to an mmorpg to afk and chat. No more using the chat in a matchmaking game. Literally no reason to talk to anyone, ever, because they're already in a Discord

Perhaps but, I have another theory on that. Some of the more popular MMORPGS including WoW and FFXIV have some very strict rules for in game chat. A couple years ago WoW had a "Social Contract" popup you need to agree to before playing:

Basically it is a lecture from a human resources department. Generic "good vibes only" sort of message.
In FFXIV even expressing frustration at someone is a good way to get suspended

The only way to tell someone something is wrong is to vaguely suggest they do something in a round about way.

People have moved any sort of discussion to platforms outside the game because it has become a liability to discuss things in the game.

I've left all my servers and I usually love actively partaking in such communities. I just can't deal with it. It's not FOMO, it's just the constant need to be present and loud to get any socializing out of it. Even those "me and 4 friends" Discords, you know they're busy chatting in every other and only showing up to reply when they remember to.
I’m only in a small amount, most of them I’m just in to support friends. A few communities. I just don’t have a desire to join any more, every time I’ve tried it’s been full of blank faces trying to be something. I don’t know how to describe it, a majority of Discord’s user base are adults with no identity in their lives outside of “being funny” (they aren’t).

Spot on. I still remember as a teen playing games, getting frustrated with the chat rules, and just giving up and saying “Here’s my discord, just talk to me there”.

I would like a discord alternative purely because I feel like people assume I’m a type of person for using it (read; transgender or pedophile), but there is none so I don’t feel bad about using it. Not one bit.

As for OP’s question, using discord is pretty much non-verbally saying you don’t care if your data gets leaked, so why draw the line here? They most likely already have you phone number anyway. It just feels weird that you’re ok with giving them your real name, your email, sometimes even your ID, but phone number? Noooo thank you!

What the fuck are you talking about, I've made like 20 discord accounts with nothing but email addresses, they don't ask for your real name, and they don't ask for your ID as long as you don't trip up the big brother AI by joking about being 9 years old (and if you do do that, you can just make another account with another email address).

So discord kicked me out of my own account and when a request for a password reset, it dosent send me any mail to my email. Anyone know a fix?
Might’ve been hacked, considering you’re a KF user you’ve probably been involved in some discord communities with hackers. Literally no worry though, just make a new account, they genuinely will not care even the slightest.

I had to sign up on "Discord" to post a question to a dev team because they don't have any other way to interact with them. I only posted a single message listing my issues. Today, I got a message from the "Discord" team saying my account was disabled for "spam and/or platform abuse". I really don't like that that shitty Clown World "service" is replacing normal ways of interacting online. And that's not even getting into the kind of people I hear the staff over there is full of. And that layout and interface sucks.

Sir, you did not fulfil your grooming and goon-posting quotas!

And that layout and interface sucks.
If you go to Settings -> Appearance you can make it more compact. I like it a lot better that way.

I am salty you that their Light Theme SUCKS. They have options that suck less but only if you pay for nitro, and fuck that, I'm already paying them by having them harvest all my data.

Maybe one day a kind stranger will gift you nitro, I enjoy gifting nitro to random people, their reactions are always a treat :)

They used to have a theme that was light and dark. Where borders would be dark and the actual chat was light, that was my favorite. Good times associated with that theme.

Lol, I could get it myself, I just don't want to. I'd rather discord goes broke and dies off ❤️ although that's unlikely to happen any time soon.

Alas, "everyone" is using it, so it seems I must use it too. I wish gaming communities returned to forums, I think they were a much better format for hosting content about very specific topics like being autistic about a certain game's mechanics, or talking about modding a game, etc. It made searching for information as a newbie easier too.

Say you're learning some editor tools for a game, you'd look for a modding forum for that game/engine. Usually it would pop up among the first results on google. Then you'd probably find a thread where people talk and share useful information about how to mod X and they might even have a thread on your specific issue. Usually, the threads would stay on topic since otherwise moderators would clean it up, so searching for useful info wouldn't be too hard. They might even have a bunch of pinned threads with indepth guides for newbies such as yourself, neat.

On Discord, first you have to dig around to find the invite code for whatever modding community you need to find. Oups, the invite code expired, guess you have to search some more. Ok now you found one that works, but it looks like you need to have phone 2FA enabled to join, fuck. Then once you finally joined, you might have to search through a stream of constant yapping to find any useful info. Discord's search kind of sucks so good luck with that. Or I guess give up just ask about it in chat, but then maybe you get yelled at for bothering the regulars with the same question that gets brought up a dozen times, and oups you accidentally misgendered someone too so now you're banned. But at least you can go back to your other d-cord server and take the edge off with the good ol #gooning channel after all that stress.

Hope you enjoyed my boomer rant.

You don’t have to do anything.

I wouldn’t know, I personally always avoided gaming forums. I could never quite fit into the culture.

Me personally, that’s when I give up on a server

I get that this is an exaggeration, but I’ve personally never experienced this. I mean, I rarely join big servers like that, but the rare times I do either there’s a pinned channel or if I strongman them hard enough they break and tell me whats what. To avoid misgendering drama, I just use their username. Ergo, “John told me that you knew how to download the mod” instead of “He told me that you knew how to download the mod”, hope that helps.

Hope you enjoyed my boomer rant.
Maybe it is a generational difference. For me, navigating discord just comes natural and is easy for me. Probably won’t be for older folk.

Not happening anytime soon, might as well enjoy the ride! Or don’t, you’re funny when you rant.

The one part of your rant I relate to is the expiring link. I get why people do it, but man, it’s annoying when someone tells you how IMPERATIVE it is for you to join this server for this event and then it’s fucking dead. If it was soooo important for your college’s secret Santa, you’d remember to do the very easy action of setting it to “never expire”

"have some discord nitro my little kitten 😍"
y.mp4
Next time I do it, I should say that and see if they still want to take it. If they do, they are confirmed my bitch.
True enough. In the end it is a choice and saying otherwise is cope. I know some people who refuse to use it out of principle and abide by it.
The choice is yours, but either way, it’s the right choice. Cause you chose it. Or something.

Hello, Let's say at one point someone gave you the code to the fastest discord information scraper in the world in terms of messages per second.

What would be some fun things that could be done with it?

Go to every lolcow/pedophile's server and scrape everything you can, obviously.
