Surprised to see that a board about this hasn't been made yet; figured it would've been done already. Anyways, here's a board to discuss various issues or post questions about the (admittedly inferior) messaging app.

In fact, I've got a question myself:

I've noticed an increasing number of Discord Server have started required 2-Factor Authentication in order to properly access, even on servers you were already on; you can view what people are saying, but you can't really participate in anything the server does without putting in both your email and phone number. As someone who uses the Discord mobile app a lot myself, mostly to keep up with friends and various communities, I was wondering; is putting your phone number of Discord safe? Tempted to say no, personally; I'm well-aware of the various retards in control of the app, and it doesn't seem safe to be putting my personal number online - already get enough spam risk calls as is.

Still, what do you guys think?

Its fine, that kind of information about you is already out there anyway, the people that whine about Discord are just performative assholes who are just faking it, or they have zero social skills and friends.

Mr. John Hitler Niggercattle's final words: ☝️. Also
>Social skills
>Discord use mentioned positively

Oh, I agree; only reason why I'm using it is because A: most of my friend group still uses it for keeping in touch, and B: I try to keep tabs on a number of different game servers.
If you don't care about your account being tied to your real identity (and if you used a personal email or registered without a VPN then really it might be too late to care lol) then you might as well suck it up if you're really that dependent on the discord ecosystem. Personally I'd just advise you that if a server needs Phone 2FA its retarded and not worth joining, and that most of discord is also retarded and not worth engaging with, but you can do what you want, consider a VoIP number if you really have to.

Apparently they just had a data breach where user IDs sent to staff via customer services were accessed. Oops.

they did yeah, though really it was any type of data sent to staff that was accessible as far as I can tell, not just customer IDs.

I enjoy Discord because the interface it has is decent(even though the devs are retards who keep fucking it up) but it may actually be the only site where 2FA makes your account MORE vulnerable. Firstly, unless someone shares your IP/device, you already have to verify a new login location through email. Additionally, your account can be accessed by attackers via your Discord token, which completely bypasses both Discord's 2FA system AND the email verification function.

The worst part is, token access doesn't even turn off 2FA. In fact, once they use your token to get in, you're permanently fucked, because it's AGAINST DISCORD'S POLICY TO EVER REMOTELY TURN OFF 2-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION EVEN IF THE REAL USER REQUESTS IT BECAUSE THE ACCOUNT WAS HACKED. Meaning, someone could hack your account, turn off YOUR 2FA somehow and put their own on, or if you didn't have 2FA, just put it on from the get-go themselves, which now cannot be removed by you no matter what you tell Discord. You are unironically better off not putting it on because you'll at least still be able to get back into your account if you get tokenlogged, since they require access to your email to change the account's attached email address, meaning you can still reset your own password and regain access.

I really want there to be actual competition for discord but, nothing else is being used. Matrix exists but, there are barely any communities there. Guilded was bought out and shut down by Roblox. Root isn't even out yet. Supposedly Team Speak is going up be updated to be more like a self hosted version of Discord but, it is still a work in progress.

Discord single-handedly ruined gatekept communities. No more logging in to an mmorpg to afk and chat. No more using the chat in a matchmaking game. Literally no reason to talk to anyone, ever, because they're already in a Discord. And if they aren't, why? Are they that socially stunted? To opt out of the "set to invisible/copy-paste between 5 discord servers all day" culture is to be a freak in the eyes of everyone else.

I've left all my servers and I usually love actively partaking in such communities. I just can't deal with it. It's not FOMO, it's just the constant need to be present and loud to get any socializing out of it. Even those "me and 4 friends" Discords, you know they're busy chatting in every other and only showing up to reply when they remember to.

"I need muh privacy" nigga we're adults, we got 4 hours a day to talk, why not let people know when? No wonder it's tough to start conversations when people hide their online status, their open games, their bought games, their any and all activities. Like being thrown into a room with another person and be told "converse", as opposed to the same happening in a space of shared mutual interest.

For years you have to act like a weirdo and tell your friends you don't want to use Discord because you don't trust it. You become a social outcast because you refuse to upload your ID or give away other personal information. Then times like this it pays off, is it worth it? Probably not but it just shows that vigilance and sticking to your principles can save your ass.

You need better friends, fren. :heart-full:
Take it as theoretical rather than personal, I know how these things work. It's always social peer pressure through not wanting to miss out, rather than a demand that you create a discord or whatever.

I used teamspeak for years, thought it was cool that there was some new free app in Summer 2015. Created an account, saw how it actually got worse and was destroying gaming communities by adding all this hierarchy and after a year or so I stopped using it.

If a service requires joining a janny-infested Discord server for any updates. support, or reporting with no other alternatives, I don't use that service. Simple as is.

I hate how integral the artfight team made discord. to get a hold of a moderator you had to use a retarded discord ticket system. they forced you to make an account on discord to open a report ticket on their server instead of just hosting a simple ticket system on their own site. To this day it’s still more reliable than their actual site report feature

i used to play a game whose forums were killed in favor of groomcord, a lot of guides and interesting discussions tossed in the trash because of that tranny-filled application...
i really don't have anything positive to say about it outside wishing a total, complete, absolute and utter discordfaggot death.
also total tranny death, bunch of annoying fucks i tell you.
