The writers tried to make him look like a ass for that but I can understand Rasputin's logic. Felwinter was a rogue asset at that point. A walking authenticator that could access any warmind facility and Golden age system. If captured or compromised he could put all of Rasputin's bunkers and other assets at risk. With no way to directly communicate or interface with Felwinter he went with plan b, eliminate the rogue asset/potential vulnerability. Too bad the D2 writing team sucked ass and couldn't figure out how to make it a compelling story, outside of the "my dad is a asshole" trope.technically they already did that, Felwinter is copy of Rasputin that died, got Guardian'd and Rasputin spent years trying to kill him.
Im a destiny lore nerd, printed the grimoires and bound them. There's so much that could have been done between RoI and D2. It's a shame. I had really cool theories about SIVA and it's interactions with the hive. How it might bypass their taboo of necromancy or by corrupting it how it might allow a hive God to simulate oryx's ability to "take". Shame
