A topic that stays with me: why can't DSP get away with the same things other e-celebs and entertainers can? Is it because we have too good a read on his character? Other people retain the benefit of the doubt by keeping quiet about their maladjustment?
I wanted to make a thread, but no matter how I worded things it seemed antagonistic.
So it will live here for now.
I won't try and speak for anybody else, but it's not just one thing with Phil. It's a combination of the complete entitlement about (or lack of appreciation for, however you choose to view it) how ungodly lucky he is to be making the money he does for what he does, his ego, and his total lack of any humility, social skills, or grace. The most recent example is the shit with Youtube. He admits to breaking the Adsense TOS by having multiple accounts, and when Youtube still gives DSPGaming monetization back anyway, is he grateful? No. He cooks up some shit about how he threatened them and
that was how it came back. There's the stuff with John Rambo, Howard, and the others. The paid shill tweets. The Ninja/Drake tweets. The way he responds to any criticism from a person he considers a nobody with insults and blocking.
The sheer unmitigated and unwarranted ego he has is so thoroughly off-putting,
in my opinion, that it effectively ruins any chance at getting benefit of the doubt. He routinely berates fans and strangers alike. He doesn't just bitch at the game he's playing, but he routinely insults the developers (despite having no background or experience in the field) and insults people for liking things he doesn't like. Despite his claims, he appears to be physically and psychically incapable of simply acknowledging that he doesn't like something without ginning up some kind of "and everybody else who's not a moron agrees with me" side story.
Along the same lines, can you name a single charitable thing Phil has done that didn't also benefit him or wasn't some half-assed thing that nobody else would consider charitable? The only time I'm aware of that he did an actual giveaway (so, not an empty box or a signed business card) was when he gave away the PS4 that Leanna didn't want. Otherwise, he's never leveraged what fame he has to raise money for anything other than himself, he's never raided another streamer on Twitch...he does literally nothing but think of himself. He doesn't even offer to pay fans for their artwork, he doesn't pay the guy who is the webmaster of, and does basically everything for, his website and forums. He often has to be reminded to even
thank the people who do shit for him for free.
And the last thing I'll bring up is how he tries to act like he's some kind of authority on adulthood just because he has a condo, car, and debt. He has no familial (wife, kids) responsibilities. His financial responsibilities are of his own doing (he doesn't have to help out family members or anything). He, by his own admission, only learned to do laundry at the age of 35 after Leanna peaced out. He can't cook more than, what, 4-6 things that aren't pre-packaged meals? And despite all of this, he has the sack to say he works 12 hours a day and has no free time to do other stuff, despite often documenting via Twitter and Instagram the numerous hours spent watching his TV.
I apologize for the novella here, and I want to be clear that this isn't a "Mad on the Internet"(TM) situation. I just wanted to give your extremely fair question a full and detailed answer of why he gets no real slack from my perspective.
