New season has been announced along with this season's finale. Really enjoying this ride, can't wait for more.
I read that the current season retreads the movie. Is it really worth watching the series still?

I was under the impression it was a Dragon Ball Super situation, but everyone still seems pretty hyped over the series. That definitely wasn't the case for the DBS rehashes.

As part of the build up to season 2, they did a weekly episode of the movie broken up into parts, adding a couple of new scenes, most of which were in episode 1. If you don't particular want to rewatch that, skip straight main attraction. The Mugen Train arc is 7 episodes, and the Entertainment District arc is 11 episodes.

Personally I didn't mind rewatching Mugen Train as I legitimately loved it.

Its been a long time since I've seen a manga start off so strong and then fizzle out. I read the manga out of curiosity to see what was happening next since I got hooked on the anime and much to my disappointment the end of entertainment district arc is the halfway point of the series.

I don't know if its from the authors desire to tell a more concise story , or what, but the manga feels like its missing the middle section of the story. The ending of it was unsatisfying as well and I was pretty underwhelmed with how things turned out.

At the end of the entertainment district the characters all level up some, but they got a LONG way to go really. I thought this was the 1/3rd marker of the story and the next arc was going to be everyone developing further(more so as character than warriors), and while there is a little bit of that, once the next arc is halfway done everything rushes into the final arc. The final like 60 chapters of the story is all one big DBZ style fight and then 1 chapter of resolution.

No side arcs to allow breathing time between the bigger arcs, no characters realizing how far they still have to go or new skills to survive (other than the cursed marker). Everything feels like the author just wanted to end everything NOW. I get it, 205 chapters IS still a lot of work and a pretty big story. But realistically I think another 30-40 chapters was needed because the characters pretty much stop developing as characters in the entertainment district. The creator really kneecapped herself by doing this and could have put out a much stronger series. The first 100 chapters are solid and all, but the series suffers from a lack of a proper middle section of the saga.

Maybe the anime will find a way to fill this gap a little bit, but it really did sour my opinion of this series. Attack on Titan went on for WAY too long and just got stupid as hell, Demon Slayer didn't go on long enough to properly push the protagonists further as characters. Especially Nezuko after the next story arc. Complete missed opportunity.

Series is just a 6./10 because of this shit and I think a lot of people will be disappointed by this, because the characters legit still feel like they're at the beginning of their story. Lot of wasted possibilities, ya know?

I haven't watched the new season but /a/ has had multiple 300+ post threads absolutely seething about how KnY is just a generic shounen, that all of the characters are flat, the fights last forever and O MY MOVING ORGANS and how Ufotable's entire business model is to pump money into undeserving series in the past day so I'm going to guess that it was really, really good.
O MY MOVING ORGANS is a big asspull but its far from being the worst one in the manga. /a/ is seething now but they will seethe thrice as hard when ufotable gets to the later arcs, especially Infinite Fortress.

The Muzan fight has so many every chapter that its easy to lose track.
>O MY ANCESTOR'S MEMORIES
>O MY BRIGHT RED SWORD
>O MY DEMON ANTIDOTE
>O MY 4 POISONS
>O MY BABY FORM

It does feel like the lady was a bit over her head and wasnt expecting the manga to get as popular as it did. By the time it really picked up on its popularity and the anime was announced the final arc was already on its way.

While I do like Infinite Fortress, it does feel rushed and a most of the cast gets sidetracked and underutilized. Zenitsu gets probably the worst battle in the arc against Kaigaku and then bitches out until the last moments of the Muzan fight. Inosuke is literally dropped in out of the blue in the fight against Douma (who just so happens to be the demon that killed the mother he never knew he had, go figure) and then only participates a little bit in the fight against Muzan. Despite being Tanjiro's future wife, Kanao gets shit for panel time. Id say half of the Hashiras barely got enough time to set up their characters and then a few chapters later they're all dead.

Overall, the manga really would've beniffeted from having one or two extra arcs. It would have helped to get a little more buildup before the final war, space out character progression and give more time for the side characters to shine.

Yeah, this is pretty much my thoughts as well. After the first season ended I really wanted to see how the story developed so I started reading the manga. The Mugen Train arc was great and then the Entertainment District arc was probably my favorite. The Swordsmith Village arc felt like a noticeable step down from the previous arcs yet wasn't bad... but then a few chapters after it wraps up the series suddenly makes a mad dash to the finale; the vast majority of the cast gets sidelined and all character development gets heavily truncated.

It's a shame. The first two-thirds are really great but that last third is a rushed disappointment. Hopefully the anime fleshes everything out better.

When I found out they were a couple I was confused, the two briefly connect a few times and you see neither really dwelling to much on each other outside of being worry about the protagonist. It kind of felt random. As did Zenitsus showdown with Kaigaku. There was no build up to either of these two events and while at the least Zenitus got the letter from the crow about Kaigaku I couldn't remember if he had even been mentioned earlier in the manga.

I'm sure the anime will adjust some stuff so everything is more evened out, but a lot of these choices made were mistakes and I'm wondering if it was inexperience that did it or if it was too much pressure.

The author had allot of personal issues going on with herself and her family. She was gonna go on indefinite hiatus but decided to finish the manga instead.

Yeah it is rushed. But everything gets pretty much explained (Whether you like the explanations or not is up for debate) and you can actually tell she actually had the story outlined cause despite the pacing and personal issues somehow most stuff makes sense in the end.

Swordsmith Village is disappointing and my least favorite arc.

But Infinity Castle is my favorite arc. I love the fights in it. They all carry a good amount of weight and despite being rushed I enjoy the revelations that occur.

Kaigaku is also mentioned earlier. He is in Zenitsu's flashbacks in the Natagumo Mountain Arc when he remembers his training with his master. He is the other student calling him trash and that he should just give up cause he is wasting their masters time. He is also the one asshole Orphan in Gyomeis (The Stone Hashira) flashback.

All in all I had a good time with it and never had a moment where I wanted to drop it. Which is allot more than I can say for the majority of shounen I read. It never overstays its welcome and tells its story.

Chapter 205.6 also made the ending much more appreciated by me. I got what I wanted from it.

Hopefully Ufotable adds some things here and there. There are also light novels of Demon Slayer they could adapt that expand upon things, (One winged Butterfly, Signs from the Wind and The Flower of Happiness.)

After reading everyone's comments about the disappointing pace of the last half that rushed through things, I'm inclined to agree that I'd like Ufotable to add/expand when possible or necessary, I also don't want Ufotable to milk the series.

I'm trying to get ahold of the manga right now through legal means instead of scanalation so I can read through it, I hope opinions here haven't preemptively colored my opinion.

Demon Slayer is a a great example that you don't have to subvert shit to tell an effective story. It's far from perfect, but the earnestness of the storytelling is so refreshing. It's like anti-grit. Kinda like OT Star Wars, someone dumped a box of trope blocks on the floor and built them into something really satisfying.

Loved the Entertainment District Arc. I feel like the VA and animation really took it to the next level. The Japanese Gyutaro VA deserves a medal.

Have some smol Nezuko:

I've started reading the manga finally. Im not super far along, about halfway through the Mugen Train arc. So far, I'm noticing that the anime has spent some well needed time expanding on some things, and cutting some things that were outright not needed

Considering the criticisms a lot of people had about the latter half of the series, I'm hoping that the anime fixes those issues.
