fyi animation books are often the best drawing books as animation forces you to have a good 3d spacial sense and imply good motion and movement.
I recommend these regardless of skill level. Even if someone here is a pro and you haven't read these I'd still recommend checking them out.

For youtube channels I highly recommend Sinix.

Última edición:
Robertson is just a bit too technical is all. He has some Gnomon videos too and he is not super didactic in those at all but how to draw is still very good.
I hear you, I couldn't make it terribly far into How to Draw, even upon multiple reviews over the years, but each time I get a little bit further and my horizon of possibilities is expanded. As much as I'd love to become a perspective master and make a shock-and-awe 5-point perspective scene, I don't think I can muster the will to when 2 and 3 point perspective will suffice for any idea I have. Late Renaissance and Baroque period art are my biggest inspirations and those compositions aren't terribly fancy.

I've been curious about Schoolism but I've heard similar remarks about the utility of the courses. I'll keep an eye out for Nielson's Color and Lighting. Thanks!

I didnt want to make a new thread for this so massive necro. I want a book with real pictures/drawings which detail the different racial categories, majoritarian and minoritarian, inhabiting different geographic locations, preferably with the differences in physiognomy which are unique to the regions for both men and women. Im tired of making my own image reference archives for italian, latin american, south american, asian, south east asian, arab, north african, sub saharan, hapa etc. Theyre too vague as well, with the resources online I will never be able to go into more detailed groups like Saracen, Romani, Berber and the like. Imagesets are fine as well but they should be reasonably big, at least 15 images for both men and women of a particular racial group.

Haven't seen Jack Hamm's books on here, so I'll recommend him. There's Drawing the Head and Figure, Cartooning the Head and Figure, Drawing Animals, and How to Draw Landscapes.

Also, How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way, just to see how it was done back in the 70s.

I'll leave this here for posterity:

Some might disagree with me on the specific sources or their nature, but these resources have been incredibly helpful to me, and I genuinely believe they're all you need to master drawing the human figure, particularly with a focus on women:
  1. Essential Art Books: A curated selection of books that cover everything you need for figure drawing.
  2. Photo References:
  3. Gesture Learning Website: A valuable tool for improving your ability to capture dynamic poses
Notes: This website is technically a porn site. If you're uncomfortable with that, I recommend torrenting the books instead. Avoid exploring other art-related material there, most are anime-related, low-quality garbage, or both.
Regarding the photo references, while the subjects may be cheap whores by everyone's standards, their poses, costumes, and body variations offer a good study material for intermediate to advanced artists.

Edit: I forgot about this, but this guy has made comprehensive models with progression for drawing different body parts, such as the ribs, head, pelvis, and when ready the entire anatomical system:

Última edición:
There is a fine line between art and porn, and why it is minors need explicit permission from their parents to attend life drawing classes (if applicable).

Seems I forgot to send this earlier, but I completely agree. The purpose of the disclaimer -beyond the obvious, is that the most common criticism I receive when referencing this, is the general consensus that most women in these albums have used Photoshop to alter their appearances in some way.
That’s why all three links are halfway down the catalog, on albums from over 10 years ago.
Photoshop did exist back then, but those albums still offer a good variety of realism and less of a gamble, in other words, the best authenticity you can get if you want to draw women in various poses for the price of "Free.99".

Also, I draw mostly women, so as a bonus for anyone else here who likes to draw the female form in a variety of clothes I recommend these websites, as they come with models that look like they don't want to die, like Chanel's or Prada's homepages, and aren't plagued with disgusting low tier AI porn like Pinterest these days:
1. Men and Women
2. Just Women

- Internet Archive is your friend. So is Posemaniacs.
This (JAP) is the most complete figure-drawing manga-focused book I've found.
This (ENG) is the best one to understand manga rhythm and construction from scratch.

- Loomis' Fun With a Pencil is still a classic, and its text (READ IT) remains effective.
Every warm-up exercise you'll ever need in your life is there, regardless of style.

- Adding Bridgman's Drawing for Life to Loomis will make figures click in your mind's eye.
It will also improve your shapes and get a better feel for dimensional depth when sketching.

- Always bear in mind that the flavor of manga relies not on detail, but on dynamism and speed.
Dragon Ball and Naruto were weekly series. Compare with Berserk, a monthly series.

The quickest way to draw manga is to draw fast and with confidence.
The fastest way to improve speed is to make daily warm-up exercises (20' max)
Warm-up exercises will give your mind's eye full access to your visual library.
You expand your visual library by copying actual manga pages and doing author's studies.
This, too, widens the scope of your mind's eye - allowing you to imagine bolder compositions.
Executing bolder compositions only you can envision generates confidence.

Hope this was clear, and helpful.
Best of luck.-
