Absolutely, but part of what makes that character work is his empty mind. Which doesn't work for Supes because the writers have different intentions.

According to Hollywood, Superman only has 2 villains. Please understand, it is very hard to make a new story when the cast is so limited.

The one thing I guess I can give Gunn credit for is Superman 2 will finally use an actual Superman villain that isn’t Lex or Zod, it being Maxima is certainly a choice however.

The continued lack of the Collector of Worlds is insane. We got “Doomsday” and not-Bizarro before Brainiac.

If we are talking a cinematic universe, I can at least understand Brainiac being left on the table for a big event film. If we were to parse DC into phases, Brainiac is certainly a Justice League 2 threat, too big for a first film, but isn’t Darkseid level to be the big finisher.

That said, it is sad knowing we almost had Brainiac twice between Burton/Smith Superman and Returns 2. It is insane that he never appeared in a Superman film at this point nor does there seem to be plans for him currently. We will get Maxima before one of Supe’s biggest names.

Edit: I guess Brainiac is in Man of Tomorrow by Gunn. I was wrong.

Nah, Brainiac never should be a JL threat. Anytime DC tries it comes across as "off" like trying to make The Riddler into a JL threat. Brainiac is a Superman villain, hell he's one of the first villains that Superman generally fights solo in his career. No need to keep him for a JL movie.

The reviews I've been seeing say, among other issues is that the movie makers seem to be unsure exactly who Supergirl is aimed at - it's incredibly violent and so on but pulls its punches in order to get a PG-13 rating and sell it to the tweens, and as someone put it it plays like an adaption of a Heavy Metal Magazine version of the Supergirl comic that never existed.

Funnily enough, I think the JL/JLU did it better, when they just called it Taskfroce X, which I think is their official designation, everyone on the team refers to it as the Suicide Squad because of the alleged danger, which only exists if you aren't an A-list villain, but whatever.

It was Task Force X in Arrow too. Funnily enough, the name "Suicide Squad" was also dropped by Deadshot like in the movie.
