One thing that is important to keep in mind while reading about box office and that supergirl is making less than Morbius, The Flash, and Black Adam is that james gunn is a gay cuck who pays men to fuck his busted bogged wife.
They should batgirl 'Man of Tomorrow' out of existence and reboot again. Maybe third time will be the charm for DC lol, lmao even.

I forget who pointed it out (probably Nerdrotic?) and it's true. Promote the DC animated department heads. Stan Berkowitz did a great job 30 years ago, they still pay Bruce Timm to work on their projects like Caped Crusader. I know Caped Crusader is woke, but it's more competent than these past few Superman movies. Whoever made Superman v. The Elite did a good job. They have solid employees that have a lot of experience in this particular genre, which is more than most other companies have at their disposal.

They're fucked. There is no perfect way out of this. The best they can do at this point is salvage what they can.
To me, that means either Reeves or - as I think this task is really too big for one guy to helm - bring in some outsiders with pedegree such as Geoff Johns. He doesn't need to be directing the movies (but he can if he likes!) but get him and Reeves together.
They have to build on The Batman as it's the last good movie they've done. But then sequel for that is already in the works. Marrying The Batman up with Gunn DC stuff is not impossible, but it's impossible to do well. If they have to they can but I'd honestly suggest just kicking off with some other JLU heroes. You could bring in Wonder Woman as she can be done slightly less 'primary colours' than Superman and that could make something of a bridge to him. You can also bring in some of the other mid-names like Doctor Fate, Zatanna, Constantine. I'm aware I just picked three magical ones but magic may be an easier transition to the fantastic from The Batman than Space Aliens. You could possibly work in Cyborg or other tech than can be done in a less OTT way. Aquaman I'm afraid is too Momoa'd for the foreseeable future. Nobody else could successfully play him. Commercially successfully, I mean.
Honestly, Gunn has created such a titanic mess that I'd be tempted to shelve the whole idea of a live action DCU for the foreseeable future and just do animated movies. Go all in on it. Of course I'm talking artistically as someone who wants quality. However, I think even for the money men who don't care or don't understand the movie side and just try to intuit things from hopes and projections, the faith has got to be running dry. Superman did badly and I don't care what Hollywood claims to the contrary. Supergirl must have snuck in before the failure became apparent or else the studios wrung every last drop of optimism they could out their spreadsheets. But if you're looking for something to invest in, promises of the next MCU have got to be ringing pretty hollow by now.

Eh, that's arguable. CC's animation is trash compared to Batman TAS' own, it has niggers everywhere, wokeness upfront, gender and race-swapped characters, Batman acting like a moron and a secondary character in his own show, etc.
Very different from the above.
After the second Supes movie, that's it for current DC movies.

Yes, but those are seen by a handfull of people, not tens of millions of people who will say"Superman can time travel so why doesn't he time travel so no one dies?" Of point out that he had a super power in a 90s comic that would defeat the villain on sight.
Superman is way to powerful at this point. Strip back his powers to what he had in the cartoons and radio show of the 1940s, he can still be the most powerful single person on earth but not so powerful that if there is a real peril in the story it looks like he is just refuding to help people in danger.
They kept his powers scaled down in WW2 so they wouldn't have to explain why he didn't end the war in a day, we need to return to that smart writing.

Superman's powers are fine, there are dozens of characters with a similar or even more busted powerset who end up with great stories.
It's just that when it comes to Superman specifically DC writers seem to be allergic to taking any big risks and anything remotely new and interesting is immediately killed in the cradle lest the fanbase kick up a stink because they can't let go of the classic setup with Perry, Lois, Jimmy and the Daily Planet. Superman might be one of the few cases where DC needs to learn to flip the finger to the fanbase a bit more and stick to their guns more often.
And I've ranted about this before but they absolutely need to stop having Supes playing second-fiddle to other characters in his supporting cast.

I think its already done filming, gunn fast tracked it to try to come in under the wire of the wb/paramount merger so he could force feed audiences as much slop as possible. He's basically a rapist.

I greatly enjoyed watching Superman beat the ever loving shit out of a Br*tish person.

Personally I wish they'd use the original name from the comic "What's so funny about truth, justice, and the American way" if they ever adapt it again, so the spastics like Gunn and whatever other brain trusts pushed it, could stop pretending that Superman's motto should be "Truth, Justice, and the Human Way" which sounds like it came from a retarded alien with no concept of proper human language.
So maybe the new motto is perfect for the Gunnverse, now that I think about it.

I don’t think a Supergirl movie is a bad idea overall, I just don’t think James Gunn or anyone associated with him could have delivered a good movie adaptation even if the stars aligned in their favor.

I think it's much much much more than that. If the movie under delivers spectacularly as it continues to do so, the product placement deals that they got will get smaller and smaller, and some may even pull out of future projects. It cost like 300m with marketing, so it needs at least 450+ with the product placement monies they've got.
This could be incredibly disastrous for the DCU and WB and with the new Maga boss looming over, it may even get worse.
