Cha'alt was spanked out in a year at most, and the book itself isn't even able to be played without stealing another book's mechanics due to how criminally fucking lazy Darrick is. The world itself is very sparse, with only the Black Pyramid, some random town, and a stupid cave filled with clown rapists getting defined. There is no effort or serious thought put into a single thing he's done, which he uses gonzo as the excuse for.
While Barker's a complete piece of shit, Tekumel, and the Empire of the Petal Throne still stands as a work. He put his heart and soul into the setting, spending years designing every single aspect of his world, and studying the cultures and religions he based it on before adding his fantastic twists to them. He did more describing a single palace than you do with a whole fucking world Darrick. Petal Throne stands in SPITE of its author rather than because.
Because do you want me to talk about Lovecraft's own foibles when it came to non-Englishmen Darrick, and how you enable it by continuing to use it for your works? And how he wrote at least two books condemning miscegenation? I fucking can.
