Phil was ranting (again) about how he tries to avoid demos and previews of games because he doesn't want to spoil them. And he doesn't agree with people who look for that stuff to spoil themselves for it. He likes the experience to be fresh when he plays the game.
This is all well and good, but it's just a reminder that Phil can't keep his values straight, or see any big picture when it comes to what he says and his business. If this is the way he feels about people who will watch stuff about a game before the play it, why is he trying to market release day views to his audience? They won't have played the game and they are watching Phil so they can get a feel for it to decide if they want to purchase it, which he says is dumb, OR he is conceding that the people who watch him are doing so because they want to see the game but not buy it, which reinforces the case for companies like Nintendo that want to keep his revenue because it's all they'll get. It's another case where if his audience listened to him and avoided spoiling games, it means that they wouldn't watch Phil and then he'd complain that they aren't there.
Just prior to this, he complained that people were complaining about the 'festive atmosphere' of the stream. But he has constantly bashed streamers for gimmicks and clown shit. So yes Phil, your fans will give you backlash for doing this. That would be how you told them they should feel.
All that said, the real reason he doesn't watch any gaming news is because that would be additional 'work' and so he instead comes up with an excuse about why he is above it instead of just owning his lazy ignorance.
Probably because they've been given the most vague instructions possible. I can't imagine Phil caring enough to spend time making a list of rules for his chat and mods to enforce. Why would he? It's only his livelihood, nothing serious.
I think they're also pulling a Phil and trying to insist that it is people coming into the chat doing stuff. But it's the mods themselves engaging in degeneracy, so this is just arm flailing because they're incompetent, can't change, and are trying to smokescreen it. So Phil can't even pick reliable mods, let alone give them rules.
