So either alotta peepul here collectively memoryholed Snowkarl’s lore but as someone who was in deep cover in Phil’s chat for a year and a half or so, allow me to educate you all.
snowkarl was a regular who even back in the day was a sneak disser and master of getting Phil’s goat for pennies on the dollar. Hate him if you want to for that but he regularly gets results to an amazing degree with his well-crafted Swedish bait that gets delicious rants 99 times out of 100 so I give him a pass.
even back then snowkarl was well-liked by chat because of his skill in getting Phil to rant and as usual Phil would blow up at him (“SNOWKARL YOU’RE DOING IT AGAIN STOP THIS MAN I MEAN IT”). A great example here would be when he asked Phil if he would consider skipping his break on the next stream if the tips goal was hit which caused a massive salt storm.
Eventually some time after the bankruptcy Snowkarl either cheered or claimed to have cheered in the stead of someone else asking if Phil would consider going on Nick Rekeita’s stream to talk about it. He was promptly banned for this transgression for talking about detractors (later Phil went on record like 3 months later saying how he would go on a Rekeita stream if it was highly curated in his favor).
Because snowkarl was already well-liked people began to demand his unban along the likes of thirdeyethethird etc. to which Phil would eventually say that every time someone asked him to unban snowkarl (or pwdubz before he “lost his mind and went crazy” as he too would regularly get banned) he would increase his ban length for another month. Thus came the era of karl clones, like acidrainkarl and sandkarl for example. For a while it was a background meme “free snowkarl” well into the area of 6 months later (as snowkarl was banned in what feels like March-April of 2020).
Eventually for his Christmas stream I believe as a joke he said he’d unban snowkarl just for that stream but he ended up doing so anyways. Snowkarl eventually came back and flew under the radar for a bit before resuming his old ways of sneak dissing and troll tipping to his usual standard of quality.
Thus we come to the current day where the cult of Karl has eclipsed the former zenith it had before by a wide margin and Phil bringing attention to snowkarl only strengthens his foothold in the chat every time he rants at him or yells about karls or snowflakes in the chat. Honestly, at this point, if he was to be banned again he’d have to ban like 2/3rds of his chat who would revolt over it imo. To make a gay analogy, Snowkarl is like an Elder God from WoW: a creature that burrows into a world like a tick. The Titans (think actual gods) could pluck them out of the world, but doing so would cause more damage to the world than simply letting them stay there since uprooting them would pull chunks of the world up with them like all that dirt surrounding the roots of a weed you pull out, but it’s the equivalent of like half your backyard in collateral from one weed. Phil could ban snowkarl, sure, but if he did it would be disastrous for his streams, so he has to sulk and bear it.
