I'm surprised he answered that question at all. It's prompting this suspicion that I've had for awhile but can't confirm: Phil prefers to copy other people's content to make his own, but it's always worse because he's stupid.
The truth is that he doesn't understand why all of these other people succeed and he does not. Obviously, the answer is that he is just unfunny, unlikeable and an actual slimy douchebag, but he can't accept any of that. This results in him trying to just copy different elements of other streamers because he thinks "Oh, this guy with blue hair makes millions and I don't. Clearly I need blue hair." It's why he got all the RGB shit, and all of the other "improvements" he's made. He knows he produces low-effort garbage, and doesn't know why people give him money for it, so he has no idea what would squeeze more out of them.
