Got this in my recommendations today and I watched it for a few minutes. It's fucking wild how bad his streams have gotten. Phil's streams were never "good" but the difference between this and what he does now is actually kinda sad.

It looks like I'm going to have to sperg out about the history of Final Fantasy games mixing high tech with fantasy for a bit.

Final Fantasy 1: An ancient race created a floating castle in the sky and the airship. That floating castle is the game's 4th main dungeon. There's also a still functional robot servant you can talk to that gives you a warp cube that you need to get to the castle. And this same dungeon has the infamous Warmech, a 1/64 chance encounter that only appears on a single screen and is harder than the final boss. Also features time traveling in the endgame.
Final Fantasy 2: Quite low tech overall, but airship travel is now relatively common and there's a giant Dreadnought airship.
Final Fantasy 3: The first third of the game takes place on a floating continent built by an ancient advanced civilization.
Final Fantasy 4: Literal space aliens called Lunarians came to the blue planet and gifted the people with advanced technology like teleporters (Serpent's Road). They also built the Tower of Babil and the Giant of Babil. The endgame airship is the Big Whale, which is a spaceship you take to go to the moon where the Lunarians hibernate and wait for humans to learn what per capita means or something.
Final Fantasy 5: Ancient advanced civilization again. High tech ruins, teleporters, and a flying fortress with missiles and laser cannons. The endgame airship can convert back and forth into a submarine. First appearance of recurring superboss Omega, a giant robot.
Final Fantasy 6: Steam powered tech all over the place in the first town. Magitek armor. Figaro castle can burrow under the desert. Vector and the Magitek Lab have cranes, elevators, conveyor belts, and robot guards.
Final Fantasy 7: Midgar is very advanced in comparison to a town in any of the previous games. TVs, cars, planes, trains, helicopters, guns, lots of analogues to real life current day stuff. It's very in your face right at the beginning of the game too, which is probably a big part of why Phil spergs about it. This drops off quite a bit outside Midgar but reappears anywhere Shinra has influence, like the Mako reactors and Gold Saucer. There's a spaceship but it doesn't really work because Cid's a failure because stupid ass Shera made Shinra cut Cid's funding.
Final Fantasy 8: Tons of high tech stuff in this one. Cars, TVs, computers, missile batteries, tanks, flying mech armor. Lunatic Pandora. You get a spaceship again.
Final Fantasy 9: A return to the classic fantasy style, until you find out there's another planet with cloning, teleporters, and other advanced tech.
Final Fantasy 10: Pretty low tech overall except for the standard ancient advanced civilization, but the Al Behd use advanced technology shunned by the rest of the world, like submarines, guns and laser cannons. Oh, and the rest of the world is OK with using advanced tech for their underwater sportsball stadiums and giant screens to view underwater sportsball on, just not to fight the extinction event level monster that randomly appears to fuck up a town every so often.
Final Fantasy 11 is an MMO and I never played it.
Final Fantasy 12: Pretty low tech except for the airships, which are very sci-fi inspired now.
Final Fantasy 13: The first setting of the game is a floating continent called Cocoon with futuristic sci-fi tech all over the place.
Final Fantasy 14 is another MMO I didn't play.
Final Fantasy 15: I hated this game and never finished it. There's cars, and gas stations, and lots of stuff that looks like something you'd see in real life. This game sucks.
Final Fantasy 16: Ancient advanced civilization has ruins all over the place with still functioning robot guards, otherwise pretty low tech.

tldr: The amount ebbs and flows, but just about every Final Fantasy game has some kind of advanced sci-fi tech in it. FF 7, 8 and 15 are slight outliers in that the settings have many ordinary people living with tech pretty close to what we have in real life.

It would be interesting to see Phail die and complain about souls games once more.

FF4, which is my favorite, is the one that proves Phil is full of shit. The entire 2nd half of the game is futuristic tech, as you say. Phil also says 4 is among his favorites and I believe he's streamed a couple versions. Considering there's zero chance he played II or III as he's terrified of emulation, and near zero he played I, he's just full of shit, as always.

The 4 part OVA Legend of the Crystals takes place 200 years after the events of FF5 and they have guns and motorcycles and modern cities in a weird desolate futuristic landscape like.................90% of OVA's that came out from the early 80's to 1994 which is when that came out.

Again, it all becomes moot when Phil signed up for that free trial of EA Origin, forgot that he had done it, it expired and charged his credit card, then bitched about it on stream.

Makes sense! Just like how everyone who beats him at fighting games is because it's dropping his inputs, they tailor their playstyle for online (curious that Phil claims everyone does this except him, when he ironically only pays online. LOL), or the game is bugged. There definitely isn't a much more simple or rational explanation available, and it absolutely has to be the convoluted one that only applies to only one person!

I remember the days of being that retarded. Once signed up for adultfriendfinder and didn't really read the subscription details so I ended up overdrafting my checking account thinking the money would be taken out once a month instead of all at once.

It’s okay, no one will ever know because he doesn’t do death counters anymore and he will also cope-rant at least 5 times during the playthrough about why he doesn’t have a death counter anymore. Each one will be capped off with either a defiant snort, a snake laugh, or a gin sip.

Of course, this time Kick chat will keep a running death counter just to piss him off, and will earn a lot of angry pig glares from those beady black eyes.

*snorts* mahds are too difficult to install *snorts* I have to go on the website, click the button, download the file, move it to my desktop, unzip the file, move the files to the game folder, then launch the game. It's too many steps guises.

It's absurd how inept he's become and I guess part of that is due to the draziaks in his dm making him step by step guides for everything. The other reason is just him being naturally lazy and having dated views about how modding work. To be fair though it's not like we're missing much as if he was installing mods he'd probably just go for 2 graphic mods and 1 overpowered weapon mod.

He hates fun or anything that could make the playthrough interesting for him or the viewers, he just want to put dark souls on the conveyor belt of content to get money for his cards.

It's gonna be the tried and true "I guess you guys don't like Dark Souls anymore, huh?". He's gonna sleepwalk through the first few zones and quit once he encounters mobs that you can't just run past / r1 spam.

Only question is what busted meta build is he going to use, vanilla DS2 he cheesed with lightning spears and used a twin rapier build in SoTFS. My money is on a twinblade, assuming he doesn't try a full on hex build.

I recently checked out ALT's deep dive into the DMs and the level of help Dentziak was giving Phil is staggering. It makes one wonder how the pigga remembers to inhale and exhale. My favorite part is dragon boy expressing concern about certain aspects of the streams and getting met with resounding silence, but then he mentions how burned out he is and maybe can't help DSP anymore. Suddenly it's walls of text from pigroach.
